I assume you’re talking about Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson. we spent a 3rd & a 4th on these guys… they have to get reps or we’re never gonna finally know what impact they can really have.
You develop a number two receiver by feeding them the football.
If we don’t give these young receivers a shot by giving them the ball, how are we gonna ever know what we got?
3 years in we have a pretty good idea who CA3 is.
A speedy midget receiver with a big heart and solid hands. He’d be a ok-decent WR3 in a good offense or a helluva WR4 in most rooms. He’s decent but limited due to size (durability could be an issue due to his stature as well). He’s not going to move people in the run game but he will run by people in the passing game. As an every down receiver he would limit an offense severely in what they can do. A good sub package guy tho. Don’t really need to feed him reps to know any of that. If he’s the best guy in a spot give him reps, if not sit him for Wilson, Washington, Smith, Skowronek or whoever is capable of the assignment.
Wilson just needs to stay healthy and be on the field to have any idea where he’s at as his first year was a wash. Is he soft af? Don’t know
Can he not learn plays? Don’t know
Can he play outside or anywhere where he does not get a free release from motion? Don’t know
His grade is definitely an incomplete but his production/growth/durability will dictate how many reps he gets. Ya don’t just force feed him to get him reps at the expense of SBWHCGOATCOYMT’s moving train slowing down for a train hopper. If he’s the guy it will shake out, if not….NEXT man up
The train got to the destination without him last year and can again if necessary. I certainly don’t see limiting guys like Muth, Smith, Washington, DK’s reps to “see what we got”. Him and CA3 will get theirs…whoever earns their reps will get them.
If they don’t earn the reps in that weak room we know what we have.
