Yea and I think this is what happened. Tulare County is not a liberal area. Usually votes republican. It's in the central valley of California which is conservative for the most part. There's a blame game going on over this, from the probation department risk assessment, the superior court's judicial hearing officer's (who usually handles minor cases and traffic violations) signing off on the release to the DA's office who may or may not have been tardy in filing charges.
Of course the DA did file charges immediately after the suspects release claiming they were not advised of the potential release until afterward. The suspects didn't show up at the preliminary hearing after charges were filed. Go figure. Of course these two have a home address in the State of Washington. So traveling from Mexico up highway 101, interstate 5 etc from the south gives them a somewhat palatable explanation why they are where they are, just going home.
Most media in the state are as flabbergasted over this screw up as we are.

Actually letting them go isn't the worse thing. You gotta send them back though. The cartels aren't gonna be happy losing all that money...those guys probably wouldn't survive real long.
