This is the quiet issue that will turn big in 2020. Deficits will exceed a trillion dollars this year at full employment. Running your economy on government debt is real socialism.
And republicans have zero plans to fix it. They only want to fix it when a Dem is President.

Yes. The one thing that is always ignored when assessing the economy. Send every tax payer a $6,000 bill for their share of the 2018 deficit and watch what happens to the great economy.

'Deficit spending' is gubspeak for spending that which you don't have. 'Deficit spending' should piss anybody off that is getting oxygen above the neck. The gubmint spends more than they have because it is the foundation of their existence, and they are accountable to no one. John Q. Public spends more than he has for appearances. If either stops, the economy crashes and burns.

To further parse, dims are profligates. Reps are a waste of space. dims believe they are entitled to wrap their pea brains around anything that causes even the slightest irritation as a 'crisis' and throw money at it. Note that I didn't say 'fix it'. That is never the objective. Just squawk like raped eagles and throw money at it. Anybody that objects is a 'raciss', bigot, 'hater', homophobe... whatever. That is the politics of the dims. Period. Reps just stand there in shock as they try to 'position', show empathy, or offer their ill-considered spin. "Like us too. We're nice people'. That is the politics of the Reps.

To 21's and Trog's points, none of that is going to impact 'Deficit spending' or the national debt except for the worse.

A number of things need to happen specific to gubmint to reverse this... and it no particular order. hussein came in with about 1 million fed agency employees and more than doubled that to 2.1 million. Can at least 1/2 of them. Mandate that all federal agency budgets be 'zero-based'. Start that from 2008 levels with the mandate to make it work. Accumulate gold. Move to gold backed currency. Kill the fed. Continue to build the domestic energy engine. Be entirely self sufficient. Kill the 'military industrial complex' that Eisenhower warned us about. Kill leftism in the service academies. That accomplished, create a 'warrior' class of career officer corps and enlisted men. Compensate these people like we mean it. Let them procure their equipment from our own rigorously vetted tech and weapons houses. A 5th gen fighter shouldn't cost $250+M when the sov counterpart costs $50M. Rigorously invest in nanotech. Rigorously invest in AI intel. Rigorously invest in space warfare. Kill the waste. Without mercy.
