Former*Pittsburgh Steelers*quarterback*Kordell Stewart (or, as he’d come to be affectionately known by fans, Slash) wrote an article for The Players’ Tribune that was posted today. In the piece, Stewart speaks in great detail about a rumor that circulated the city in the 90s. The fact that it spread so quickly and so efficiently in 1998 […]

Remember to be kind.

It isn't quite as easy to be kind. Sometimes it takes a little effort. Kordell seems to get bashed to this day but did bring some good moments to Pittsburgh. Some getting wrapped up in who he wasn't maybe getting lost in the shuffle who he was.

I get it there is some in life that get what they get deservedly so. But he didn't deserve the nastiness and flat out lies that were passed around. Neither does Ben, or some other athletes accused by a social media jury.

Ain't no rest for the wicked.

At the end of the day if you pay me millions of dollars to play a game, you can call me whatever you want. I'll be ok driving home in my McLaren 720s to my beautiful home.

And yeah the world is filled with jerks, mean people and ********.

That wasn't the normal situation. It isn't a bully picking on a kid in a playground. That is a grown man sport filled with testosterone and someone trying to punch his man card. There hasn't been many openly admitted gays in football for a reason. So for a straight man to be ridiculed and pegged and then have to live that situation down day in and day out in the locker room.

**** some have folded in life for less.

There's idiots out there who still believe this too.

I criticized Kordell quite a bit for his QB play for sure but he was always a standup guy and he did receive undeserved ****** treatment in his time in the city. I wish I would have been sitting next to the guy who threw the beer at him while calling him the N word from the stands. People are fucktards,

He also had the misfortune to be here at a time when Bill Cowher couldn't keep OC's longer than about one season and for a couple of them (Sherman, Gilbride) one season was too long. Those two make Fichtner look like an offensive genius.

Kordell couldn't grasp Gilbrides system.

Kordell was Lamar Jackson, lite, you keep him in the pocket and take away his first read, he's done. He just wasn't quite as athletic as Jackson.

It's messed up. I'm farthest from the most PC guy you'll ever meet, but treating people well is mandatory with me, regardless of their choices, etc.

The only thing that I didn't like about him was his refusal to play the slash role in the playoffs one year. Other than that, he was our QB and I stood by him. Shoot, I even defended Brister.

Yeah I am not sure I agree with the not quite as athletic part. Does the rats rb play WR too? If anything he is Kordell light.

Kordell ran a 4.52, Lamar Jackson ran a 4.32 or something, now of course you never know what's real and what's not.

The Jackson lite comment is talking about both being QB's, just watching them both play Jackson was faster and more elusive than Kordell.

As for Kordell playing WR, he would come in as the #4 WR, or run gadget plays with him, nothing wrong with that it worked, but I've heard some say if he just stayed at WR he'd be in the HOF, I don't believe that for a second, he wasn't really big 6'1", and didn't have elite speed for a WR, if he tried to play WR full time, he would've struggled vs #1 CB's

Yet Kordell had what a 80 yard rush a one time record? He ran faster than the combine recording and a reminder Action Jackson didn't run his. Have to agree to disagree Kordell was all over the field lightning in a bottle. BTW there are reports of 4.4 and 4.3. So we really will never know who was faster for real. I will get with Kordell and ask him what his fastest 40 was.....

I remember that 80 yard run vs Carolina, I'm not saying he's slow or a snail, just having seen them both Jackson seems a little faster and more elusive than Kordell was, either way, they were both 1 read and done guys with limited accuracy.

I watched Kordell in college and pimped him to the Steelers like Watt. You see a system out in place for Jackson, one that was never centered around Kordell's skills. Sorry I can't buy in. Perhaps next time. [emoji16][emoji6]

I don't think Jackson is a good QB, just very comparable with Kordell, they're dangerous if not contained inside the pocket, but if they're forced to stay in the pocket and throw, they both struggle, I think that played itself out. There's a big difference between wr's being college open and NFL open.

Let's not forget Kordell played in the era when you could still hit the QB in the helmet and actually tackle them.

I don't think Jackson would have lasted a season in the league back then.

True but Kordell got open before the passing rules were tweaked. In the NFL. We might be apple and oranging this but slash still remains my boy!

totally agree, that's why there weren't any QB's that played like that then.

Kordell ran a 4.4 iirc...

I was standing in line waiting on Dirt Dawson to sign my newborn son's football, I had planned to get the greats to sign it as he grew up. I see Dirt coming my way and I felt a tug on the ball and I ripped it away, here Kordell was going to sign it, He gave a "really?" look and shook his head. Dude beside me started laughing as I told him my plan in casual conversation. We had a good chuckle.
