There was a time, (96, 97) when Stewart was just about the most feared offensive player in the league.
Then Pete Carroll figured out how to defend him and honestly the Steelers offensive staff never worked out how to counter that.
It's true Stewart didn't read defenses well. And unfortunately for him he played at a time when defenses were really beginning to change from 'athlete drive" to "scheme driven".
Stewart has an important place in Steelers QB history. He was good, but not great. And Pittsburgh eats fading great QBs for breakfast. He was never going to be truly loved as a QB here. But he did provide plenty if amazing plays during his career.
