REPORT – The ‘Josh Allen Rule’ Will Start in 2022

The intent of OT should be to completely eliminate ties. Allowing multiple possessions and shortening the OT to 10 minutes INCREASES the probability of a tie.

******* stupid...

I'm with Tomlin. I personally would love to see sudden death just like in college. I love college sudden death and it would make OT more exciting, should you ask moi.

college OT is not football, it is a scrimmage....it sucks

sudden death, first team to score wins....

I love college OT. I hate NFL OT.

We know Coolie hates change, and the new college OT rules. I used to love college OT rules until they turned it into a 2pt shootout, which is the dumbest thing ever.

Yet they had something. Starting from the 25 playing the game as is, is football. If the NFL ever adopts it, after TDs the rule should be always go for 2. That will diminish extending OT.

But all things considered, I never had a problem with sudden death, and prefer that to the **** show the NFL employs in OT.

There is nothing wrong with a tie game. Suck it up and accept the 1/2 point. your offense should have been better at scoring for 60 minutes

I think that the simplest and best solution to OT was the one that hid in plain sight:

If the problem was that the coin flip and subsequent first possession was unfair, then do away with the coin flip and kickoff. Make OT a sudden death continuation of the 4th Quarter. It might make late game decision making a lot more interesting.

**** ties. I'm not one for kissing my sister!!

The NFL just seems to want to create more buzz with their evolving "solutions", that really do not solve the problem. Since the tie has to resolved in the POs, and the coin flip is arbitrary and unfair (given PO OT results), I have two suggestions:

1) Use the initial coin flip, at the game's start to decide. If you win the flip, you can take the ball to start at either half, but the other team gets the choice of end to defend AND the ball in OT. Or you can force the other team to decide, and ensure you get the ball in any OT.
Then play OT as sudden death, because late game decisions are made knowing OT possession. Best football team wins, because the extra coin flip is removed.

2) Simple is better, so that even Floggy can figure it out. OT is just an extension of the 4thQ, from same possession and spot on field, and you play until the first score is made. No more TOs, challenges, etc. Less tools, best football team wins.
