I’m reading on different outlets (FanNation, Pittsburgh Trib) that the Steelers are waiting for the Bucs to fire Leftwich and they will hire him to replace Canada.
So the Bucs averaged 18.3 ppg and were going to fire him mid season but decided to wait.
What the hell does Leftwich bring here that improves the offense if this is indeed true?
Look at the playmakers the Bucs have and that’s all he could get from them?
What am I missing here?

I think the Bucs had a bad year because Br*dy had a bad year but he got them a Super Bowl win too not so long ago.

I have more of an issue with the fact Canada hasn't been fired yet. That if Leftwich get fired than we will fire Canada and hire Leftwich. If Leftwich doesn't get fired we will roll with Canada for another year. So there is no one else out there to replace Canada?

Not when you’re Tomlin’s buddy, no.

Good lawd IF we move on from Canada which is highly doubtful can’t we get someone good?

Lefty was awful without BA
Was he or was Tom? No line and an ancient and intractable *** hat playing QB well past the time he should have been saving his marriage. He has had success I wouldn't be opposed if it gets rid of Canada.

This is why I find the coaching cycle every off-season so interesting. For the last 2 years he’s been on everybody’s must have interview list. Now he’s rumored to be fired? Is the guy a leader and a coach or not? No wonder so many fail if everything is based off of offense/defense production as a coordinator. Yes that’s a part, but wouldnt their leadership qualities still be there? Maybe he’s just not as qualified to be a head coach as all the experts pegged him to be 🤷🏻‍♂️

You know when most big companies have a very important high level position open they do an extensive search and many interviews.

I don't understand the approach the Steelers take. It appears like they go on the cheap when it comes to coaching. Is it not of a very high level of importance? You can have the best racecar in the world, but if you stick an idiot behind the wheel you'll never win any races and end up with a smashed broken car.

a lot of the Bucs' offensive woes can be traced directly to the OL and Brady. Many of his throws were hurried and either short or WAY over the WR's head. They had some OL injuries early in the season, and I think rushing their OC back to start this game hurt them. They looked really disjointed last night. Which put me in a quandary. I hate Brady and never want him to win. I also hate the Cowboys, never want them to win and would still hate them if they were playing Nazi Germany.

Matt Canada and Byron Leftwich

I like Leftwich but I don't know if he is going to be much if anything better than Canada.

Some can say Brady had a "bad year" but his numbers aren't bad at all. He put up almost north of 4,600 yards and 25 TD's. Their biggest problem was the OL injuries and getting nothing out of their run game. Fournette came to camp fat and out of shape and still looks heavier than in past years. They needed him to have a good year. Goodwin was also recovering from injury for a good part of the year. I'm not sure what other issues they might have been dealing with this year. Marsha did struggle much more prior to his divorce. They were typically terrible early in games and got better later in games but Marsha did struggle much more prior to his divorce.

My concern with Leftwich is how much did Bruce Arians do with the offense and how much was Brady? Tampa was terrific from 2019-2021 before falling off this season with bad offensive line play and a quarterback who did not want any contact. Also, how much do Leftwich’s philosophies align to Arians? We also tried that out once and it led to a lot of sacks.

The LUXURY S10 has had some idiots behind the wheel, but she still seems to come through in the end........................

Salute the nation

I'd say that about 90 percent of this comes down to the players and execution. Both with Canada, Leftwich and almost every coordinator, HC in the league (including MT). McVay goes from SB genius to a bum in one year. That said there are some real holes in Canada's game. The play calling is pretty damn predictable, the passes are clearly plotted in two small regions of the field. Deep in the redzone there is no creativity to get people open using slants and rubs. Nothing EASY ever seems to happen inside the 10 after KP worked them down the field.

Didn't realize this was that real of a deal, but just read Lefty sounds like he is about to be unemployed. He knows the organization, played the QB position at the highest level and Brady or not, they out performed a juggernaut Offense in KC in the SB a few years ago. That pretty much dwarfs Canada's resume. With Canada's only advantage being you do not want a parade of OC's with the young Q.

The standard is the standard.

Those reports are BS, Canaduh is staying, they'd have done it by now if they were going to fire him.

It is inexcusable, but as many have said Tomlin is at the root of this problem, he keeps his guys, coaches he feels comfortable with but are not the best available....if Tomlin resigned today I say the only coaches on our staff who would Flores have a chance at a parallel move would be the Oline coach and Flores (not because of his development here), Tomlin has no coaching tree as the 2nd longest tenured coach in the NFL that says a lot about why this team is underachieving year after year

We need to stop hiring amateurs! Look no futher than the playoffs. With a young team bring in a proven hand! Tampa is about Brady that’s it and that’s all!

Okay...if this is the case then why fire the OC? The same case can be made for Matt Canada. New offensive line, new QB learning the system and limiting plays (predictable), benched for a rookie still learning the system, RB was injured but tried to play through it and left the run game struggling.

So, let's fire Canada and bring in someone new with a new offense and terminology. Hope your personnel fit in this new offensive scheme.

the biggest reason I could see to bring Leftwich is familiarity with the franchise. It really is a sideways move and there's little doubt that the HC (Arians) was the one leading the offense during his tenure

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Lefty has been fired. Let the rumors and speculation BEGIN. . .
Do we know if he was fired or just didn’t have his contract renewed, like the Steelers do it.

I could definitely see the Steelers hiring him as an offensive consultant/assistant head coach and then in 2024 just not renewing Canada's contract and then upping the pay for Leftwich. That of course is if he doesn't get another OC job. There's a few available around the NFL.

Chargers just let go of Joe Lombardi and QB coach

I know they had a collapse in a huge game .......... but they still put up 30 points ........
