Excellent find and post B&G Bleeder, appreciate all your great ones along the way.

During his playing days, because I lived so far away and way before the media times we are in now, I didn’t have the type of information available to realize his blight.

Obviously that changed with more availability of information.

Rocky has always represented himself well and has shown great gratitude towards the team.

Our team can always use a player with this kind of respect / mentality on the roster.

Thank you Rocky for all the great memories, both past to present.

Rocky, always first class guy. Tough ball player who always did his job and complimented Franco well.
Defined who and what a Pittsburgh Steeler is all about.
Everyone in Appleton,Wisconsin stand up and cheer for the hometown boy. Thank you for sharing Rocky with us.
 
Met him about 3 months ago at the Meadows Casino bowling alley. He was there giving away copies of a book and promoting Dogs for Vets. Didn't recognize him at first when he commented about my bowling. What a good dude. Very down to earth.

Loved Rocky growing up. I was 13 years old in 1974 and watched him absolutely neutralize Raiders LBer Ted Hendricks in the AFC Championship game. Hendricks was an early predecessor to today's rush LBers. Tall, rangy, very good bend and could beat OT's to the corner. He destroyed the Dolphins the prior week, caving in their OT's on both running and passing plays. All we heard about coming into the game was how Hendricks was a force, a game-changer.

Noll assigned Rocky to block Hendricks. Franco rushed for 111 yards and 2 TD's, Rocky ran for 98 yards, Bradshaw threw for a TD, and Ted Hendricks was a non-factor the entire game.
 
I've never met this man but I have so much love & admiration for him and his sacrifice for this country!

He's an American Hero and was one hell of a football player. I've always wanted to see a special wing in the NFL Hall of Fame for guys like Bleier who IMHO belongs there is some form or another while he's still with us. He didn't have the stats for the HoFame but I have no doubt that he belongs there for the courage, effort and sheer desire to fulfill his dream of playing in the NFL. While all of us dream it at one point or another in life....this man accomplished it and did so against all odds!

His story is one of inspiration that any human being can get behind and support! I'd love to see him get his just due at the NFL Hall of Fame!

I remember it like it was yesterday!
I was also 13 years old in 1974 so we got that in common …

So many great memories of Rocky Blier just too many to put down on paper so to speak….

One that comes to mine was a game and it’s either 79 or 80 around that time…. a bunch of us kids from the East End of Pittsburgh decided to load in a half dozen or so vehicles and drive up to Cleveland, and spend the Saturday night at a Holiday Inn up there before the Steelers Browns game that year..

The stories from the traveling and night at the hotel are so memorable. I could probably write a book about it, however we were there to watch a football game and boy…Did we see a football game!

Steelers won in a high scoring contest something like 51 to 34… 80 some thousand people in attendance created an atmosphere that was so electric that it resembled a WWE fight in the stands!
Must’ve been at least 30,000 Steeler fans in that stadium that day…

Rocky and Franco both had big games that day, and Bradshaw put on a show through the air!

We had seats pretty close to the field behind the Steelers bench, in the last few minutes of the game when the game was in hand, I remember Rocky coming over to a bunch of loud, crazy yinzers and raising his helmet over his head and giving us some love!

What a day what a game what a memory!

Oh, and by the way, almost forgot the most endearing characteristic of Rocky….

He is a Notre Dame Fighting Irish man!

God Country Notre Dame!

Just ask Rocky!
