Rooney's!

As much as I like the fact that the Rooneys don't get involved with running the franchise and admire the patience they have with the coaches and players. Enough is enough already! They should be expecting more out of this team instead of just being average. Believe it or not I think they are very content with the position of this team right now. They have a 8-8 team and for them that seems good enough. They don't aspire to win a Super Bowl but are fine being competitive. If they aspired to be more than that they would have replaced Tomlin a long time ago! Mikey boy will be replaced and one day he will go to another team that won't be so patient and his LEGEND will just fall further and further into the muck! So blame the Goonies if you really wanna blame someone because ultimately they are the TOP of the food chain!
The Rooneys and ultimately the fans are satisfied with mediocrity. The team is profitable and fills seats and I guess sells merchandise. I think they'd like to get better and maybe even win another Super Bowl but it isn't a big priority. That is why we hover around .500 year after year and Tomlin has a job for as long as he wants it.

There are positives and negatives to having head coaches around for as long as the Steelers do. We should be thankful in that there is consistency, they are always in the hunt for the most part, the players know who is boss so even when an Antonio Brown or whatever comes around, it doesn't become pandemic. Other positives are that Tomlin has become part of the community as has his family. You make a lot of relationships over 15 years. Tomlin is a good guy, too. Maybe we get mad at his coaching sometimes, but I think he is just a great mentor for his players and kids in the community. Look what he did with those kids he saw fighting on the streets. Bringing them to practice and putting them through drills. It is what we need happening in communities.

At the same time, it is a negative. For everything I just listed that is what makes so hard to fire a guy. And don't think that's right. If the job isn't getting done...

I think it is much more that though then some conspiracy that the Rooneys are happy with mediocrity and blah, blah.

Another thing...do you watch? Do you go to any games? Do you have merchandise? If you do, don't gripe, because you are part of the problem you are griping about.

I was super happy with the win on their turf. I was NOT happy with how some of their fans treated my daughter because she had on Steelers clothing back in 2016. Screw them - they deserve a shitpile and more.
I can definitely relate to how you feel..
Years back when we lived in Ohio my daughter went to a game with friends while in high school.
Unbenouced to me and her … the seats where in the Dawg Pound.!!
She told me when she got home “ Dad they were calling me things thst I never heard before!”
🤨

I have said it many times, Tomlin is a slightly above average HC. He is your 80% on a math test, in our school that was a “C”

But he always did have a football mind.

He knew his X & O's

I have not been a fan of Tomlin over the years but I want to see how he handles this football team post Ben. Can he get this team to play at a higher lever this year? Can he weather the storm of losing TJ? Can he win without Ben? Can he develop Kenny Pickett enough to have ready to replace Mitch if injured or ineffective? I don’t think Tomlin is this horrible HC but don’t think he’s this great coach the media makes him out to be. I think he’s an average coach who benefited over the years of having a franchise QB and lots of talent on offense like Lev Bell, AB, Martavis, Heath, etc.I also think he did his best coaching job in 2019 when he lost Ben.
I’m waiting to see how he handles 2022 and btw Rooney is not firing Tomlin ever imo. Mikes next move is in the TV booth.
I will add this, Tomlin most certainly does live in his fears. All you had to do was watch that offense Sunday where Mitch was more a game manager playing not to lose. Looked just like last years offense.
Very well said!
Agree with all of that.

I will add he gives good press conference material and will likely be a much better TV guy than HC, maybe with all these huge money TV deals our best hope is a network “stealing” him away from us…that may be the only thing that gets him out of here

Until then just relish the being “in the hunt” category every year even though we’re rarely a true contender for more hardware.

Sadly I quit buying merchandise and going to home games a few years ago, due to not wanting to be a hypocrite when I came to a similar realization about the direction of the franchise.

I go on vacations to opposing venues and take part in the takeovers of opposing stadiums.

As far as watching of course I do, that is all TV deals and shared revenue packaging in the NFL and not as much of a direct effect to a team’s revenue stream…would sure as hell love to be able to go back to Hines’ Field without being a hypocrite someday tho cuz nothing like a home game!

Damn principles got me in a spot.

I watch games that don't cost me anything and don't provide any direct revenue although I seldom watch the entire game and often just record so I can FF through commercials; I haven't gone to games in years and the only merchandise I have was bought a decade or more ago. How about you - if you're on this board I assume you have more than a passing interest in the team.

Team's playoff performance has gotten worse and worse as Cowher's players and staff retired or moved on.
8 to 10 wins and a wild card playoff loss is his ceiling unless he gets a little bit of luck and runs into a backup QB in the playoffs.
Like Tim Tebow?

Sure I do. I'm not advancing the theory though that the Rooneys are satisfied with mediocracy. Nor am I inferring that they are satisfied with filling seats and selling merchandise.

I don't go to games though either. But more so because I find myself watching the damn big screen. So essentially I paid hundreds of dollars to watch TV in the stadium instead of free at home. I don't buy merchandise just because I don't. No real reason except I'm not a fan of shirts with all kinds of stuff on it.

My point is I don't think the Rooney's are up to something untoward. I don't think we realize how hard it is to win a Super Bowl.

Tomlin is a good coach. He's overachieved with some pathetic offenses in recent years and does great in the regular season with elite talent. He obviously lacks in the playoffs and this is my biggest criticism. My next biggest is he doesn't value the offensive line. After 16 years of coaching this team, the Steelers have had a below average/poor offensive line for at least 33% of his tenure and in both his early and later career, it has hurt the team. Weapons over the trenches simply doesn't work unless you have a special QB. Ben accomplished it in 2008-09 and Burrow last year. Lastly, his coaching staff has been poor overall. Right now the defense has talented coaches with Austin (I like him more than most for his secondary coaching, not necessarily DC), Flores, Dunbar, etc. Offensively, they went on the cheap with Canada and whoever the OL coach is. Just embarrassing hires for one of the premiere NFL head coaches and franchises.

Hard to slam the Rooney name. My only complaint would be Heinz field change for a few million dollars, I guess I'm old school on traditions. I even hated seeing three rivers imploded. As fans we want the perfect play every time, we want winning records and playoff wine every time. We have been sum what spoiled. Remember the days before Bradshaw before Ben, I was a fan long enough to remember. Was not very good especially when we name all the QB's before Ben and the fact we were a completive team but could not get to the big one and many time playoffs. I'm not a Tomlin raw raw supporter and yes, he has had winning seasons but with a lot of support starting with the QB and has too many times fizzled at end of year. This year I'm wait and see attitude since now no one is left from the previous coaches. The team as a whole last week did not let down yes not pretty but way too many Steeler games are not pretty, we as a team hung in there and won against the AFC champs at their place. Tomlin seemed different on the sideline yes, he did get the dear in headlight look but still seemed different even his post-game and Monday press Tomlin seemed a little more upbeat. Giving game balls to new players, really where it was a game anyone could win. This week opening at home against NE we will see.
