Steelers signed OL Emmanuel McCray, claimed CB Deion Belue off waivers. To make room, Nik Embernate and Kaycee Ike were released.

Anyone know anything about the two new guys?

Bringing in Belue, sounds reasonable. See what he has got, maybe a sleeper waiting to wake up?

Belue has smaller hands than Dri Archer! His arms are only half an inch longer than Archer and he only weighs 9 pounds more...

why do they carry embernate on Practice squad all year....... and dump him NOW? He must have been home eating Cheetos and watching porn all winter..

Deion Belue had a much better Junior season than Senior season and that very well could be chalked up to turf toe he had last year. Still, two year starter at Alabama and his Junior stats are respectable. 40 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 2 INT, 9 PD, 1FF, 1FR, 57 yard TD. Has a shot at sub packages if Shaq doesn't turn out.

Turf toe cut short Lambert's time in the league. I am surprised we lost one player that was injured and picked up another.

you simply do not learn. defensive players from Bama are not good at all. there are non-scientific studies performed, spreadsheets made, tabs colored... damn, son. it's like this is all new to you.

Deion Belue - CB from Alabama. He's DeShea Townsend. That is all - watched his entire career at Bama and simply "just a ball player". He has the tendency to get beat on double moves and deep balls - good zone coverage and tackler.

So is that better / same / worse than gay? I was never a Townsend fan, but the one year the D was playing terrible (I think it was Gay that got benched) and Townsend became the starter again and the D turned around nicely. I am not a Gay fan either, but he played pretty well last year. I see this signing as a lateral move at best, but its always good to bring in some extra bodies.

I'd rather have Belue as an UDFA than Dee Milliner as a first round pick. :)

So much for Embernasty

Townsend was the starter for like ten years. Every year they brought someone in to compete for the job. No one could beat him out. A solid, not spectacular player.

if we can get a William Gay or better yet a Townsend out of an UDFA that's a big score

I'll second that, townsend was a very smart player.

Bama DBs have struggled because they don't play with NFL technique. They are not taught how to backpedal. Saban plays them very aggressively, pressing WRs and most college WRs suck at getting off a jam. A large number of these "genius" offenses are based on rhythm and when the first read isn't open when that QB hits his 3rd step, he either panics and hold the ball or throws it anyway and gets an INT or incomplete.

This doesn't fly in the NFL. NFL WRs can beat the press and NFL QBs can go through a progression to find an open man. These Bama CBs don't have the backpedal technique and many of them struggle.

You've heard of a "System QB". Saban has "system" defensive players who have mastered a simple attacking style and when the get to the NFL and have to learn other techniques, they are behind many other players.
