Round 1 Discussion Thread

that nobody wanted them to do until after the fact. I’d feel better about other’s opinion if it had been their opinion all along, but the consensus prior to the draft was: trade way up for White, but not Bush.

You're high...95% of us talked about the Devin's over the past 2 weeks - the consensus was Bush was the better player...

I'm pissed the pats****** got Harry.

Ive been pushing for Bush for a while. Never thought they'd trade this high to get him.

I liked him too. Physical beast for a WR. But whatever, **** them and all the Asian hookers they rode on.

With Cincy w/ the 11th pick was going to take him, what do you do when you really want a guy?

You have to work your way through the draft as it unfolds. A lot of us didn't think the Steelers would attempt a move of 10 positions but they had 10 picks to work with. They were able to defer until next year part of the deal. All the rage was to get a DEF playmaker. As the draft unfolded trading to the 10 spot was the only way to assure one of the Devins as I can think of 4 teams that would have taken him off the board before us at the 20 spot. We found a trade partner and made the deal. At least it shows the head office is being aggressive in obtaining a quality player. They have 8 picks left to better their position in the mid rounds. I would rather see 5 or 6 actual draft picks taken by the 5th round than 9 taken over 7 rounds. Go get some players that may actually make the team.

Seriously? Just about everyone was talking about a trade-up to get Bush.

Into the top ten? In the rumor thread that started yesterday there are multiple posts (and likes) about not trading up for Bush.

I was one who thought White was better. That's not to say I didn't think Bush was good. Just had seen enough of White to know he's a sure thing. I'm a happy camper though. The Steelers track record with guys they've traded up to get is pretty stellar ( at least recently). Love that they went after a stud.

Obviously they felt he wasn't going to be there at 1.20 or they wouldn't have made the trade. Would you rather they reached and drafted like the Raiders did with their first pick?

I thought it was pretty much a consensus (outside of SN, anyway and some at SN?) that the top three ILB's would be White, Bush behind him, but not by a lot, then Wilson (round 2ish). After that was a pretty steep drop off and you were not going to get a 3 down ILB.

No, my issue is what we gave up/how far we traded up. There are several players I was hoping would still be available at #52 that I am much less hopeful will still be available at #66. I might feel better about it after tonight’s picks, we’ll see. #10 is a high pick, for me to eventually like it, Bush will have to be better than Shazier, not just replace him.

Trading up is neither simple nor cheap. Every team in front of you has their needs too. In a perfect world you only have to move up 3 or 4 spots, but they may not have had a partner there and Bush is probably gone anyhow. I for one am glad to see this team get aggressive and make that type of move.

Can't win. We sit back and take BPA and we miss out on a huge area of need. We trade up and its criticized for giving up too much. That early 3rd for AB and the comp 3rd for Bell next year allowed this trade to happen.

Its a good trade for us on paper. If he doesn't pan out then the board will roast Colbert for trading up. There will still be high value there at 66. This is a deep defensive draft and the offensive players really haven't been picked over yet.

The thing people have to remember is that draft position doesn’t equate to draft grade.. 2008 had a draft where many first rounders might have been third round picks most other years. It was fairly poor on talent level, 2014 was very deep... it varies year to year
This year there really isn’t much difference between the bottom of the first round types and the top of the third round guys... the Steelers are still going to probably get a guy who would have a second round grade on them most years in the third...

That middle of the D wasn't going to magically fix itself. You know the one which blew lead after lead after lead. And saw the Steelers all nice and comfy at home for the playoffs.

Some of yinz are looking at the hourglass as half empty, when you should be seeing it is half full.

No they attacked areas of weakness and have not one not two but three new defensive players ready to help upgrade the D that at times was good, and other times sucked ***.

Top ten players don't rainbow out of the sky, you have to give to get.

I mean if the Steelers only had a few picks left I could see a higher concern. But there is 8 picks to play with.

We aren't talking a empty pantry here. Plenty of food to eat, don't be impatient because it isn't sitting in front of your face yet. You will get to eat today and tomorrow.

And if your still hungry, they could always free agent one or two more.

He wasn't getting past #11. And we would have had to play against him.

When the comparable players for Bush are Derrick Brooks and Ray Lewis, I will accept the trade as a good one and hope it pans out.

I don't get it, with the assumption we get a 3rd for Bell next year, we basically gave up a 2nd round draft pick for a guy that is a considered by almost every draft guy to be a top 10, some have him as a top 5 talent. How is that a bad move???
