Rub and Tug the starter in cleveland

I heard they installed a “reach around on 1 go”, play. Instead of grabbing the football the RB grabs his arse. Not sure it will put points on the scoreboard but they are still working through the D-e tails.
 
Well, I don’t know if that is a testament to “rub-N-tug” great ability or the piss poor evaluation of talent by the Cleveland Browns’ staff……..

Second-greatest contract in pro sports after Bobby Bonilla.
 
This was set before last season even ended.. they cant push any money out without a multiyear extension, which they cant give him without him playing well.. they cant cut him, and his cap hit next year is absurd.. literally they had two choices

A. Play him and hope he is good enough to either extend at a reasonable cost or trade him

B. Trade him now and pay the next three first round picks for someone to take him

I'm all for it. Dude has so much pressure on him with that contract and Sanders breathing down his neck. I'll bet he cracks and I hope it's against us....Schadenfreude..:LOL:

If they trade Watson now all that money hits the Cleveland cap this year (the only money that will go with him in a trade is this year's vet minimum base salary, as the rest of his cap hit is already paid by Cleveland and therefore dead money), and if they trade him end of season they still wear the lot (again none of the salary goes with him in a trade as it has already been paid by Cleveland).

The only way Cleveland can get out of a massive cap hit in 2027 is to extend him. Although it doesn't need him to play well, as there is an option C (which is a variation on A). He does nothing as a starter so nobody else considers signing him and Cleveland can extend him at a low cost, even if they don't consider him to be a long-term contributor.

Great post Aussie, appreciate yaz.

I think back to when they signed him for the HUGE amount and the guaranteed part.

Couldn’t believe it and had to read is several times before i could.

ADD in all the trade capital and length of contract and it just made no sense in any way.

FAST forward to today and it still is rediculous until you remember it is the Browns that did this.

And they compounded that error after signing Watson, by consistently kicking the can down the road and converting most of his salary each year to signing bonuses and adding on void years, so a huge amount comes home to roost in 2027. Then even more ridiculously they extended Myles Garrett after he said he wanted to go to a contender and a year later traded him so they have some hefty dead money on Garrett's contract hitting the cap at the same time as Watson.

We should be thankful Haslam never rose above minority owner status with the Steelers. He might be successful running truck stops and apparently making money generally, but his performance in delivering on-field success as an NFL owner leaves a lot to be desired.
