Run the ball!!!

What exactly is Blount's job? 2nd and goal on the 5 and lining up with an empty backfield tells me:
1. The OC must think the defenders are stupid.
2. The OC has no confidence in the running game.
3. The HC is a moron.
4. The QB can't read mismatches.
5. The "ground and pound RB is all hype.

First and goal from the four. Three passes and a field goal. I didn't care for the TD pass to Palmer either. You have two big RB's that are averaging five yrds a pop. Run the damn ball.

I miss the shot gun draw on 3rd and shot with hayes. Maybe we should try that worth archer... (being sarcastic just in case it was not implied)

The scouting report says you throw on the Jaguars. There was nothing wrong with installing a pass heavy heavy offense during the week. The issue is that you have to alter the game plan to what the defense shows you on game day.

The Jaguars were playing their safeties deep, expecting the Steelers to come out throwing, and Steelers kept playing into it, while they averaged 5 ypc on the ground.

Like Arians, I think Haley is OK at assembling gameplans during the week, but also like Arians, is unable or unwilling to adjust them if the defense shows him something for which he didn't prepare.

The Jags are the 32st ranked team in run defense so the scouting report was wrong. With them playing their safeties deep you run the ball all day but then the Jags know we are not committed to the run under coach cool shades

People are saying it's waay too late for that...over thirty can't or not willing to change...time to look fo Ir a trade while value is still high...don't give another contract...get picks shore up defense...Gradkowski can hand off to the two elite Rb's...pound the rock behind top O-line.

This is giant, steaming pile of B.S. Do we once again have to list every qb we had between Bradshaw and Ben? We are not going to trade a franchise, super bowl winning hall of famf qb who is still performing at a high level. Suggesting we just run the ball and use gradkowski is beyond idiotic. It didn't work with mike tomzac and he had bettis, a great offensive line and a killer defense.

I was baffled at that too, and while we scored, I was still scratching my head a bit. But I was browsing through ESPN's Steelers section and I ran across a very interesting blurb in their "grading the Steelers win" column.

Coaching: The Steelers were much more disciplined after getting penalized 13 times for 125 yards the previous week. They had just one penalty on defense and seven overall for 50 yards. The offensive game plan was puzzling. The Steelers seemed content to throw underneath against a pass defense that had been strafed in the season's first four weeks. Bell is one of the best running backs in the NFL and he didn't get a touch the six plays the Steelers ran inside Jacksonville's 10-yard line. Grade: C+

While I definitely noticed it on that sequence, I didn't know we had that many snaps down there and NONE to Bell. SMH

The other thing that kills me is 2nd & long after an incompletion or fade bubble screen it seems like we always show our hand (two tights) and run the ball. Like the goal is to get to 3rd and manageable and we're willing to let the defense know it.

Before the big craze of Fantasy Football, the objective was time of possession, # of first downs and dominating the (offensive and defensive) trenches. We are not focused on moving the chains, but instead the big 'splash' play (Tomlin's phrase) for the glory of it. I have to admit the play calling in the 2nd half of the Jax game seemed to focus on this and hope we play smart football going forward. The upcoming Browns game will be a great stage to bring back old school Steelers Football.

get some runs to the outside get DeCastro and Miller to lead the way to the edge on some strech and sweep plays to gilbert's side

In today's Cleveland game, the Running of the Ball seems to playing in our advantage. Let's see if we continue with the same plan with some dumps to Heath or screens to our RBs. Enjoying today's game so far.!

We are still a pass first team now. Why people can't get that through their heads amazes me. 3 runs inside the ten and we get a FG. Pitiful! We need TDs. We still can't run when we NEED to.

Well today's game has proven your theory otherwise. We have dominated time of possession so far, kept our defense fresh and in control of the game. I do agree with you that we should have thrown in a pass to our TE or AB, instead of running 3 straight times inside the 10. However, I am pleased with the direction of our tactic and will only confirm running the ball opens up opportunities to throw and Tomlin's splash plays. The strategy of moving the chains is what our team needs. The points will come and predict a 27-10.

no it hasn't. We got inside the ten and couldn't run it in on three plays. Now we are down in a game we were dominating. We know we need to put up 30 per game.

There is plenty of time remaining in the game. Our team has gone down the field twice by running the ball and controlling the game clock. I can't argue that our RED ZONE Offense has been weak and have agreed with you where we should look at some passes (catch the ball). However, that doesn't remove the fact that we dominated the 1st quarter by running the ball. It is very troubling that our defense is allowing the Browns TE to get wide open for 2 quick touchdowns. I am sure our OC will only panic like he did in our last possession and throw the ball, hence how predictable he is for any defense.
