Salary Cap

Like re-signing Sutton, but avoid spending so much on Edmunds the LBer. Really prefer being conservative with cap $$, using the draft to build since you get so damn much bang for the buck. I can live with spending a combined $12 million per season for Pratt and Eluemunor ... but get used to yelling at the TV after another holding call on Eluemunor.
Ok, how about 2-year 6 million for Cameron Fleming instead of Eluemunor. I guess what my point is there’s opportunities in free agency. Colbert was the kind of GM that almost always honored the contract. But the way Jack and Chuks contracts really worked out was only 1 season at a time. Looks like Chuks agent probably put the roster bonus ahead of free agency to not let the steelers test the waters without committing to releasing Chuks. I just don’t see Chuks signing for 10 million a season elsewhere. I even think if we release him we could actually bring him back cheaper unless it chaps his *** too much.

Its super clear that they intended him to be a left tackle and he couldn’t cut it… id totally draft two Tackles and hope that if they both pan out we could send Chucks off to some tackle strapped team at some point…

Or keep him as depth, but his cap hit would have to decrease. Maybe trade him for a 4th to 6th ?

problem is - if you cut Chuks, you're cutting a starter. Regardless of how we feel about him as a fan group. He might be average, but you'd at least want an average player at a position prior to the draft ... otherwise you're locking yourself in to draft based on need.

Chuks was better than Moore - IMO. I'd much rather we move on from Moore than Chuks - and Chuks is only a year older. IMO, you fix the OL in the draft based on BPA - or via free agency based on how much you can and are willing to spend at one position without being leveraged too much into one position.

Skoronski is said to be within our grasp at 17. Some say he may need to be moved inside, then would have a long and great career. That's all fine and dandy, but i believe we took a guy once not too long ago we had to move to a different position on the line and that didnt work out. I'd much rather take Broderick Jones at 17 and move Moore inside. That, to me, would make our OL better. So if Jones > Moore, then you take Jones. If Moore > Dotson, then move him inside.

Regardless, to me, you <remove> Kendrick Green </remove> from the roster completely.

You can find average starters at tackle in free agency for way less than 13M. Then you don't put yourself in a tough spot in the draft missing a starter

Greene didn't convert because he was undersized. He simply struggled due to size restrictions. Skor won't have that issue.

How about signing Sutton? The more I hear, the less I can stomach it. Saw ESPN saying they think he falls in the $11 million range and someone could pay him $14 million. I spit out my Coke Zero. No way am I touching a No. 2 CB for that kind of capital. Hopefully, we can get him in under $10 but I'm starting to have my doubts. He did play well but not as a CB1. He was never asked to cover a teams WR1 all over the field. He only plays one side of the field and gets whoever is there. That's why good stats are misleading when you look at him. They only paint half the picture.

EXCELLENT post Supe and thanks for all the great ones along the way.

My sentiments exactly and NO, I have not forgotten the “Green” debacle at hand. Many have said that Moore is better suited for inside work and I’m all for that move, provided he is better than current player.

I’m also VERY intent on drafting the player for the POSITION he is intended to play, not some get and change hypothesis. Back up depth can be that role, high investment needs to just focus on the one position and do it VERY well (Master at 0ne, not a Jack of all trades).
