We got exactly who we wanted with a perfectly played smokescreen. All the hype pre-draft was the Steelers taking Malik Willis as the 1st round QB, hyped enough that the Seahawks and Saints felt comfortably enough to pass on Kenny Pickett (the only true 1st round QB talent) thinking they'd get a steal picking him up early 2nd round because their picks would come before any other team needing a QB that round. Boy was they wrong and with Pickett off the board the remaining QB talent just wasn't there for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. The drop-off from Pickett was just too far of a gap and the Steelers played it perfectly to get their QB of the future.

Considering that Willis didn't go until the 3rd round I hope it was a smokescreen and they didn't really have him ranked that high.

After watching this video that fairly and accurately breaks down all the pre draft QBs the Steelers made the best decision and I'm sure after watching his tape they concluded he is not NFL ready yet, he stares down his WRs and doesn't read the field... AT ALL. Willis would've been worse than Landry Jones and wouldn't even see the field for atleast 2-3 years from now

I mean here is the reality… Pickett was good but he doesn’t have that super elite arm to be a top of tge first pick… the other qbs all were either immobile like strong, very raw like willis, or baker mayfield clones…

There was no 1st round talent at QB this year. Sorry, but it would've been better to go all in next year. Doesn't matter though, until the coaching staff is replaced, they ain't winning it all anyhow.

Serious question….what makes Pickett any different from Burrow or Mac Jones from a skills or production standpoint? If Pickett played for LSU during their championship season or for Alabama during theirs he would have been a top 10 draft pick. He’s got the the 3 things that makes a successful NFL QB…accuracy, intelligence and pocket awareness. Throw in good size, some mobility, a decent arm and that moxie that Burrow and Jones have and I think we got a good one. Only time will tell. Neither Burrow nor Jones were getting mentioned in any draft discussions prior to that one magical year they had. Sound familiar?

Agreed that KP was the obvious standpoint, but I'm not convinced that Dopey didn't ultimately want Makala. In fact, there's a rumor going around that they had Tomlin pick up the phone to announce the team's #20 pick. He got as far as saying "my pick i..." and the phone suddenly cut out right as he was saying "...s Makayla Willis. The guy on the other end of the line confused "pick i .." for Pickens and that's how we ended up with the right guy.

I've just got to ask - where did you hear the rumor? Source please.

The best thing about KP is he could be a day 1 backup, a solid QB2

With room to improve and 4 years cheap hit for a QB and a 5th year option if he takes.
All those 2 year projects only have a couple years of the cheap contract once they are finally ready…not KP…he’s a solid day 1 backup. Great move Steelers, ya really duped em good

I already said it the other night but it's fact. The moment you hear a coach say to the media "We are taking this guy if he's there" you can directly translate that to "We wouldn't touch this guy with a 10 foot pole" We want someone else to take him instead of taking the guy we actully want."

No. Smokescreens would only work if there were a lot fewer teams and they weren't allowed to trade up or down. It would be pointless to try to account for every possible scenario or to assume that only a few could take place.

Smokescreen schmokescreen.............. There wasn't a single talking head / expert / poster from this board who predicted Kenny Picket to fall to 1.20. Had Kenny been taken and Willis was there I truly believe he would be a STEELER at 1.20. The STEELERS didn't plan this at all, unforeseeable.

Sorry, smokeless smokescreen.

Next year all those teams that are passing on qbs are going to be going all in on those guys… you probably are looking at the top two ( if they dont regress) going in the top five… the cost to go get them is going to be absurd

I'll need a Citation to go with this horse-shittle you are spewing,...........................

Better yet, skip it and just stay in pretend land.

OK, but if next year's elite QBs are all top 5 picks we're out anyway since Tomlin is pretty much able to hit 9-8 with a little bit of luck, which puts us back in the 18 - 20 position, too low to get any of the top ones or to broker a deal unless we're willing to give up multiple first round picks or a key player.

You are one oddball weirdo who makes posters dumber for reading your nonsensical drivel Bob.

Kids I would like to take this time to remind you the utmost importance in staying in school and saying no to drugs.

Burrow has a much bigger arm than Pickett

That sounds like urban legend stuff...not buying that

You think they were bluffing Davis too?

If any tea falls for a "BLUFF" then they deserve it. Teams in the NFL level are to high a caliber to not take their needs / board oreder / luxury picks. They aren't going to base off what some other team says or inffers.

Today's NFL is past that tactic used in the 70's because there is just to much information out there for a player to slip by.

Oh and Kenny Pickett isn't a "Dan Marino", Marino had way more readi-ness and football accueme, PLUS he could handle his Coke.!

DIC,

Could you elaborate on the criteria that you utilized to form the opinion that a newly drafted rookie isn't a HOF QB? Furthermore, could you share with us your background as it relates to being a subject matter expert on evaluating NFL talent? Thanks.
