I still believe that the Steelers can nab a top-tier CB at pick 20 and have the guy locked up for five years at a very reasonable cost. However, the combination of Witherspoon as CB1, Wallace as CB2 and Sutton as CB3 means the Steelers may go another direction. A top-tier WR would be very tempting, but how about a talented, top-tier SS?

I am thinking somebody local, SS Jaquan Brisker from Penn State. Ideal size at 6'1", 203 lbs., quick, explosive, very good in zone coverage on TE's in the middle of the field, not afraid to put his face into the pile against the run. A lot of sites think he is an early 2nd round pick, but the Steelers don't have an early 2nd round pick. If Davis, Penning, McDuffie and Elam are all gone, I think Brisker is hard to pass up. Put him at SS with Minkah at FS, Witherspoon CB1, Wallace CB2, and Sutton on the slot receiver? Yes, please.

I think better value will be sitting there either at WR/RT, or Dline.

I think SS will be addressed in free agency within a day or two.

Where you thinking a trade down in 1?

I’m liking the idea of trading back more and more if Penning and Davis are gone

Yeah, I love the idea of trading down, particularly to get another spot in the 3rd round. Agree a lot of value will be there at WR, and think the team should go WR if Williams is available, but ...

Lots of CB's on 2-year deals so far. Get a top-flight SS this draft for 5 seasons, sign Minkah to a 5-year extension, Watt here for years, and the defense has its base for years to come.

Like every year, folks are talking about trading back. Gotta have someone looking to trade up first. It's not a given that there will be since this draft is pretty deep in a lot of areas.

What in the flying **** makes anyone think that this coaching staff is going to be able to draft and develop any sort of DB?

Here is a list of their DB draftees going back to 2012

Terrence fredrick
Shamarko Thomas
Terry Hawthorne
Shaquille Richardson
Senquez Goulson
Doran Grant
Gerod Holliman
Artie Burns
Sean Davis
Cameron Sutton*
Brian Allen
Terrell Edmunds
Marcus Allen
Justin Layne
Antoine Brooks Jr
Tre Norwood

Seriously, I mean really what in the **** makes you think that we should even remotely want them to spend any pick on a DB?

Maybe Flores will help fix some of that? One can only hope. Although I think the problem is not in not developing talent, it is more in recognizing talent.

Flores is working with the LBs… Austin is still running the DBs much like butler ran the lbs with help from the other assistant coaches… its nice to think that Flores will be this DC like influence on everyone, but im going with Tomlin and Austin are the bigger say especially this year

Idk, Flores has been attached at Tomlin and Colbert's hip at these pro days so far, not Austin

Well i hope you are right but I doubt it… Tomlin is pretty bad at gaging db talent for an ex db coach lol
I never understood his connection to being a DB coach considering his background as a WR, it's obvious he's better at spotting talent at WR

Ive said for years that if tge Ravens weren’t in our division, we should draft extra wrs and trade them to the purple ratbirds for DBs… because tgey are in the polar opposite situation

Or with the Patriots, because Belicheck can find DBs, but he was awful at drafting WRs until Edelman, and that was only because Edelman reminded him of welker who he didn't draft originally 😂 I just hate the Patriots so I wouldn't want to help them

The weird thing is this staff is excellent at finding DBs from other teams, even underutilized younger ones… tgey just cant evaluate them in college… or more likely they teach them incorrectly and jack up their development… even Willie Gay was better when they brought him back for stint 2…

With the Packers trading Rodgers, they may be a trade partner if a wide receiver falls.
You had me for a minute with "Rodgers". I had to go look and see that it was Adams they're trading.

Oh geez, I didn't even realize I typed Rodgers rather than Adams. Must've been all of that Rodgers discussion this offseason, lol. Sorry about that!

I still twitch when I hear someone say Chad Scott.

Safety could be a bigger need than many think. Edmunds is ify. And is Minkah really great and worth a huge contract? He's obviously good but is he worth being the highest paid safety in the league? That is likely what he will demand, or close to it come contract time. Steelers could be in a Bud Dupree situation. Nobody questions paying Watt, but giving Dupree that money would have been crazy.

If you get a really good S in this draft then maybe you can let Minkah walk and save money. Edmunds is not a bad player, he just hasn't taken that next step. He can pair with a stud safety and be good enough and may come at a reasonable price.

I'd love Brisker on the steelers. He's physical and versatile. The best thing is his instincts. He actually has them. The steelers have become too enamored with measurables on defense. They end up drafting guys who are good athletes but have no natural instincts for the game. That's why it takes so long for them to develop. They have to be taught things that a player with instincts already knows.

First, you combine CB and S. Second, how many of those were 1st round picks? Artie Burnt and Terrell Edmunds.. THAT'S IT.

You realize that top-tier CB's usually go in the 1st round, right? So you're saying the Steelers should not take an elite CB (Gardner, Elam, McDuffie) because Terry Hawthorne, Antoine Brooks, Brian Allen, and Marcus Allen sucked? P.S. Tre Norwood, a 7th round pick, looked pretty good last season as a rookie and Sutton is a decent starting CB, taken in the 3rd round.

Maybe you should look at every other NFL team's history in drafting players 3rd round and later at any position. You will be shocked to learn that the vast majority don't turn out to be really good NFL players. A hell of a lot never play a down in the NFL in fact.
