So how did you honestly feel at 10-3 last year?

I also think when you play good QBs they get it out quickly.

I think somewhere (maybe Scouts Eye?) I saw some stats about time to throw and how it was dramatically lower for teams when they played us. Particularly for good QBs. Because everyone sane is afraid of TJ.
And we play so far off on the outside, you can just dink and dunk all the way down the field. That and the middle of the field is wide open...

When you remember that every move Tomlin makes is to “minimize negativity”, everything comes into focus. Blitzes can leave you exposed, tight man coverage can get you beat deep, passes over the MOF can lead to turnovers. Three basic staples of the great teams are effectively out of the Steeler game plan because something might go wrong.

Tomlin knows what loses games, not what wins them. They’ll forever being in this high floor == low ceiling mode until that changes.

Number 2. I made the statement now the season actually starts(because we were playing some of the best teams). A few blasted me for saying that.

I never would have guessed the total collaspe though.
I was Number 2 also. I was looking forward to the test. We couldn't have possibly failed worse. Boz was the only guy that didn't let us down. As far as I'm concerned we're farther away than ever right now.

Some believe we are only a.....

FOUR TIME MVP, VET SB CHAMPION

.....away from winning it all.

It' weird too because we play more single-high than anyone (maybe 2nd most single-high? from Scouts Eye I think). And we still gave up among the fewest explosive pass plays last season.

I think it's because (1) we're comfortable leaving Minkah alone back there and (2) we need help stopping the run. And IMO because of (2) we are also less aggressive covering that pass.

Heh heh you are number 2 heh heh

I thought we'd be able to keep those last 4 games close (at least 2 or 3 of them). And win 1 or 2 of them in the traditional ugly way we win. With a shot at the division if we could beat BAL.

All season, the argument I was making was that we needed to win the division to have a reasonable chance at getting past the WC round.

After getting blown out by PHI and then BAL, I was pretty much resigned to getting wiped out in the WC game.
And resigned you should have been.

While the collapse at the end of the year was certainly disappointing, I think this is the most rational way to look at last season.

Wasn't here, but my guess is that many would have been saying things like "we really need to win a bunch of games early because the end of the season looks like it's going to be hell". And also "why the hell does Baltimore have way more rest days than their opponents across the season". Or "the NFL scheduling / Goodell hates the Steelers"
We have much, much bigger problems than NFL scheduling.

The offense ineptness is on Tomlin. The entire make up of our team is on Tomlin. He plays a very low risk offense because he believes his defense is elite.
As the late Woody Hayes, coach of Ohio State, once said, “When you pass the ball, three things can happen and two of them are bad.”

Expectations change as a season progresses. What were your expectations for the rest of the year at 10-3?
I picked them to go 10-7 with a WC playoff loss so I said there’s still a chance.
For being spot-on, DIC sent me a Steelers jigsaw puzzle.
This coming season my prediction will be 10-7 with a WC playoff loss…for three years in a row.
I’m on a roll.

Was that the famous "Tomlin " puzzle that uses square pegs and round holes?
You take a piece supposed to be on the left and force it into the right because it will hurt the original left piece’s feelings if it has to move to the right.
Also you take a brand new piece and stick it in the center even though it had never been in the center before and wonder why it doesn’t fit and looks funny.

For sure.

I think we should do a real rebuild. But the business model of the team is to always compete for a playoff spot.

But the league certainly screwed us on the schedule. I don't think it's because they hate us. It's because we're adamant that we'll never be on Hard Knocks. And this was a way they could force us on their show.

We'll win 7 games maximum. More likely 5 or 6 wins. It doesn't matter who the QB is. This team was exposed at the end of last season on both sides of the ball. If anything there's only more question marks going into this season.

There's a good chance we don't win more than 3 home games if you look at our opponents.

Like the wheels were about to come off. We had played four teams with a pulse to that point and three of them had beat us. The rest of the schedule was murder for a lousy team. And Shades typically fields a sub par squad.

We can always count on Shades' team to win one game they're not supposed to win and lose one game they're not supposed to lose.

Meh. We are built to beat the bad teams. Just the way we scheme on both sides of the ball. We have talent. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another Tomlinship or two...three to complete Tomlin's contract.

The sooner Tomlin reaches 200 wins.....the sooner the Rooney's and Tomlin simply move in from each other mutually.

Maybe Tomlin gets a playoff win mixed in there also. The media would eat it all up. Some on here would eat it all up also.

When we lost the Browns game in the snow I thought we were in trouble. We were lucky to get into the playoffs and had a bad matchup and got curbstomped.

We're gonna win a SB with this garbage?

At 10-3 I suppose I should have been jacked but I wasn’t. I was skeptical to say the least since it felt like we had been here before and I was waiting for the collapse.
Within that 10-3 record I witnessed losing to the Colts, Browns, a bad Cowboy’s team minus their two biggest defensive stars.
I thought to myself that I’ve seen this act play out so many times in the past.
Nah, I was skeptical and thought it to be fools gold.
Nothing changes drastically around here until
It’s gutted from Tomlin on down. Ownership needs a whole new philosophy and approach and to come to the realization they need to hit bottom and start the rebuild process. Some losing seasons come with that but that’s what puts a team in position to draft a franchise QB. Also, better get much better at the draft and FA.

We need a new QB to start and to build both lines, everything else is window dressing.
