Stats from the wildcard game

Why was trice good enough to go 1/1 with chase, but be a healthy scratch yesterday
That’s one that blows my mind! Even other dbs around the league were commenting about trice drawing the job of defending chase man to man then you scratch him? He’s better against those tight end type receivers the rats use ya? There is no rhyme nor reason to what our coaches draw up.

Trice was playing on Chase because Jackson was out with an injured back. A bad defensive scheme against Cincy put Trice in an untenable position, and he had a bad game. Because of this, Tomlin decided to go with an injured Jackson instead of Trice. Go back and watch Jackson’s play, he is constantly winching on each play. He is extremely stiff, because he is trying to compensate and play through the pain. By halftime he is obviously in great pain and not really able to do his job, but he doesn’t give up and take himself out of the game. Late in the game his body is failing him and he just can’t make it continue. Tomlin obviously felt that Jackson’s experience was worth more than an unijured Trice. Just another example of Tomlin’s ineptitude and unwillingness to make a required change in the plan.

Anyone that has injured their back knows that doesn’t truly go away in a few days.

Anyone see the play where both Jones and Moore pulled and damn near collide with each other? How I wish they would have just to expose the train wreck that the team turned into.
It was posted on X on a loop. I also noticed several running plays where the OL either missed their assignment or didn't know it, and were turned around walking back to the huddle while the back was struggling to get out of the backfield.

Yep, Harbaugh made Tomlin look like an idiot there. Usually Watt goes for the QB on those plays no matter what, this game it was obvious Watt was supposed to go for the RB because he never once looked at the QB, Baltimore just had Lamar keep the ball on the majority of those early on and we had no one spying Lamar. If Watt is going to hit the RB, then why not have Minkah in the box spying Lamar, Baltimore was missing their top WR, no point having Minkah playing centerfield, well I guess we didn't give up any bombs.
I feel like a few hits on Lamar from #90 might have altered that option game plan. 90 blasting their MVP would have at least not looked as pathetic as he did tackling Henry without the ball. Hits on the QB are supposed to be the price paid for running the option. Lamar was never touched.

This is what FLOORED me about that gameplan. In years past, that is EXACTLY what they had Watt/Highsmith do. Hell, go back to when the rats had RG3 and he was bitching about the fact that he was getting hit before, during, and after the game. Then, come WC Saturday, and they decide NOW is the time we key on the RB’s, 100% of the time! The Steelers look like a total laughingstock right now, and I hope they continue to get ******* grilled about it. Because that was ******* putrid on every level imaginable.

Don't forget: Number of players broken apart by media "noise"---53

This is the weakest excuse EVER...LOL..like I said in the other thread I would never question Najee's on field toughness, but this is pathetic. If true what does it say about the culture, and the man who leads that culture? It says you all are mentally weak. That's what it SCREAMS.

His answer was about as nicely as he could say “Hell no I don’t want to be back”

Never a losing season.
Greatest coach everrrrr…..

Because he has the better perceived pedigree, and history with a failing Defensive game plan.

Because he was a UDFA, and as such will only be used if he can not be replaced with a player that was actually drafted. Besides he has too many INT’s this year and must not be allowed to continuously show up pedigreed players.
Bingo.
Same reason why Warren isn’t the #1 RB.
Tomlin’s depth chart has always been based on draft position and salary.

Re Bishop vs Sutton and Jackson vs Trice...

In both cases, the playmaking but inexperienced guy was benched in favor of a vet who simply does what he is told, even if it means they get physically or schematically beaten...

Tomlins attitudes on players are very much like Tim Lewis... guys like Dewayne Washington and Bren Alexander who were always in the right place, but rarely made a play on the ball were more valuable to him than impact guys....

Mincah this year really reminded me of Alexander, (only much faster and more athletic... ) but just a guy to get there and clean up with a tackle after the play.. never impacting tthe play..
Bingo again.

"we are not rhymers nor reasoners. we are football players playing the tactical chess game of football within the confines of what the cumulative ability of our team offers as a method of parameters geographically speaking on the field of football."
/Mike Tomlin, probably
