Steeler defense since the 2024 bye week

You should always be in shape year round as a professional athlete. That's your job. Keeping your body sound is your livelihood. The offseason is the time to get better. Bigger, faster, stronger. More agile, more explosive, more powerful, more disciplined, better educated in your craft.

There's zero excuses to not be ready to go when the time comes to perform. That's what you're paid to do as a professional sports entertainer.

I don't get it at all. I train year round for free. If someone paid me millions of dollars to essentially workout,I would take full advantage of that and all of the resources available,be it company provided or my own personal investment into myself.

Funny story, soon after Michael Irvin retired he was a guest on Mike and Mike, and told them that for the first time in his life he did free weights.

They were shocked, until he replied, “Yeah, nobody payin’ me to work out anymore, these were free weights”.

You can't keep running the same failing scheme over and over. It doesn't matter what players you have when you're fatally flawed.

The Julian Edelman comments last year should have made national news and set off alarm bells in Pittsburgh, instead, they keep the staff intact and simply tried to stock the roster with talent to overcome the lack of scheming.

Exactly! That's why the patriots**** beat their *** every time and made them look stupid. They knew the Steelers better than the Steelers did.

And the Steelers still didn't change. Well good on them, here's a cookie for sticking with stupidity.

After the AFCC blowout after the 2016 season, one of the defenders was asked about the flea flicker TD, said they never saw it on film. Pats ran the same play a few weeks earlier. One of the Pats players was asked how they prepared, said they watched every snap of the Steelers season.

Ivy League vs. community college.

I hear ya! Couldn’t agree more! When he finally retires then he can do whatever he wants but now he owes it to the team that he’s under contract with to stay in shape.
Perhaps too much exercise with his mouth doing his podcast.

James Harrison is a GREAT example, Antonio Brown is another.

I get wanting to fire austin, but I can't blame him for the D. Tomlin is supposed to be a defensive coach he has to sign off on the defensive gameplans. We don't seem to understand the concept of scheming for different teams. First priority against the Jets should have been stopping the run. We just throw out the same old stuff and hope it works. As for oline there is no reason to have kept Meyer. Jones might not be good, but i think he can be coached up more

Wow. They did win last Sunday, right?

In the early part of the year that is what matters, just get wins. If these issues persist into October, ok. Nobody knows who anyone is right now. Even Green Bay. Two games at home, and a Thursday night game early in the year to boot. We'll see about them.

I see a couple of points to ponder.

1) the start of the season is always a feeling out stage of personnel and getting into the swing of things. This includes both players and coaching. Myself, I accept that excuse to a lesser degree than most. You have all the off-season to get prepared and should be to the extent of just familiarization of players on the field.

2). Both teams are on the rebound, Seattle to avenge their loss and the STEELERS to provide “comfort” in their abilities.

3) Coaching, has made me scratch my head and assZ multiple times. No change of the very deficient OL coach, continuing with a sub-par DC and ST coach has been off & on a lot (currently giving up big return yardages). The OL line coach is insanely being kept, the OL is paying for that decision. The sad thing is most are blaming the players as the sole problem where as it is as big a problem contributing to the poor play of the coaching.

Just my $15.84 worth

No one is blaming the players as the sole problem. Just like after reading your posts over the years I know you aren't blaming the coaching soley. BOTH coaches and players have a responsibility to do better.

It is a bit worrisome because they are the same issues since last season.

Come on....Cam was simply in the process of getting himself his $$$$$$. He will work himself into shape by midseason. What is more important as..... "the" .....team leader? Getting yourself "yours" or being ready to go at 36 years old for the up-coming season?

It is. I'm not saying disregard it, but the caveat right now should be it's so early.
We have been saying that exact statement for the past decade....why not another season I suppose.

Definitely too early to set a pattern on this season. Around week 3-5 we should have a pretty solid “take” on what this team is made of. I see some stand-out players and some average as well.

If Broderick can get just a little footing going, he can turn things around.

Aaa-Ron will be good for as long as he can stay upright and healthy.

Our “D” will improve and with this current offense,……… I don’t see them fading quite as fast near the end.

There will be two 1000yard WRs but not sure if we can get two yet alone 1 1000 yard rusher…….. will be close though.

Tomlin is 1-6 in his last seven games.
I know. I really believe that each season is it's own, especially today with all the player movement. I don't think last year has anything to do with now. A lot of players playing big roles for the Steelers had nothing to do with that.

He certainly is. Ab put in the work as well.

Jerry Rice was legendary for his conditioning year round. I think it paid off for him.

Years ago, Deion told a story on talk radio that happened the morning after their 1994 SB win. Sanders went to pick something up at the facility with a hangover, saw someone running gassers on the practice field.

Jerry Rice.

Put Holcomb in the starting lineup, we need a tackling machine cleaning **** up
