The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly had a deal in place on March 17 with free agent cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. It was reported by Josina Anderson, and Jordan Schultz, but according a source with knowledge of the situation the two sides have not came to an agreement.

The initial reports claimed that Witherspoon had came to an agreement on a two-year contract with 8 million. The same exact deal that cornerback Levi Wallace signed a few days prior.

Everyone just assumed the report was valid, and moved on counting him as a Steeler. The big names are usually always right, and especially when it’s two big names. Along with the source we can also connect some dots from the Steelers end.

There’s been no official announcement from the team. They’ve now officially announced each of their free agent signings, and have them all listed on their roster at Steelers.com. Today Steelers reporter Missi Mathews and WDVE 102.5 radio host Mike Prisuta discussed whether the team should bring back Witherspoon and safety Terrell Edmunds.

We’re told the two sides have talked, and it’s believed that they’re going to eventually reach a deal. But that deal has not been signed yet.

Witherspoon was a huge priority for most of SteelerNation. His solid play over the second half of the season earned him playing time in a rotation with starter Joe Haden.

If Witherspoon isn’t signed and goes elsewhere the door could open for Haden to come back. He was all but long gone in everyone’s minds, but that was after it was believed Witherspoon was signed.

Stay tuned for more on this development.

Good thing we overpaid Chuks. Could a thrown some of his coin at Witherspoon. A better player at a premium position.

Eh, if they were in a hurry to get it done, they'd get it done. Still have $20M in cap space without the Witherspoon deal being done. Plus, TJ's contract could be finagled to free up tons more cap space.

Also, if Witherspoon was seen as some "fantastic" CB, he wouldn't still be on the market for the Steelers to possibly resign. While, if the Steelers hadn't signed Chuks, the Bears were all in on him. Soooo, it seems at least two teams' actual talent evaluators disagree with your assessment on Chuks, and 32 teams disagree with you on Witherspoon. j/s

Wish the Bears took the soft lazy bum with them he is horrible in the run game,a RT,'s main job and is mediocre as a pass rusher.

I'm tired of reading this nonsense. Some of you people are stuck in 10 years ago FA. Lets break it down, Chuks got a 3 year 29.25m deal after two years of starting. His signing bonus was 9,750,000. That's 3,083,333 per year of the deal. His base salary for this season is 1,250,000. Bringing his cap hit for this year at a measly 4,333,333. That's for our starting RT. That's chump change. And the way that it's structured, they have an out after this year, but if he improves with better players beside him, he'll still be a cheap starting RT.

In other news, the Chiefs just signed a WR that has never had more than 700 yards, and never had more than 38 catches, for 3 years 30m, and the Jags signed a WR who has never had 1,000 yards in a season to a 4 year deal worth up to 84m. His cap hit in the first year is 7,500,000, and next year jumps to 21,500,000. And you guys want to ***** about Chuks contract... smh

You can slice it anyway you want but if he is cut after this year he will have a dead cap hit of 4.875 next year. He is a below average player getting paid above his level of play. Haig is better for less with ZERO dead money.

First off, it's Haeg, not Haig. Second off, you're just being silly now.

Whatever. He is getting near 10 million dollars to play this year. He is a poor player ,lazy and soft. We could have done better for less, that is far from silly. We will suffer this year from his poor play and by running a ton of RPOs with Trubisky his total lack of ability to run block will result in some turnovers and a lot of negative plays. The Steelers have done an incredible job with all their signings except for this one.

Time will tell and the coaching has way more contact than any of us do. Chuks improved last season, believe it or not.!

He is a drooler you are wasting your time.

Obviously you don’t like the player, but let’s simmer down with the Madden Cap lecture. Okorator isn’t being paid $10 mil this year, he’s base w/ bonus amounts to less than $4.4 mil as Insaniti outlined. If we could have done better for less, name that player. You can’t, you won’t. “Poor player, lazy and soft”, what’s your basis of evaluation? By God if you mention PFF in any part of your response, Coolie should place you on sabbatical. If Haeg was better, why wasn’t he starting? Even if the OL coach was subpar, how do you ascertain Haeg’s 5 starts in two years as preferable as Okorafor’s 35 starts in two years? The offense has been mediocre not because of Chuks, but the sum handled by questionable play calling and a aging QB.

Don't move the goal posts. You're wrong. His cap is under $4.5M.

It's fine if you don't like Chukes, but get the numbers straight.

His cap number this year is 4.5 but goes up dramatically next year and if cut is 4.87 million. So we are in the books for 9.375 million for a bad player at minimum for this year's play . Hate dead money for bad players.

Jury still out for me on Mr. Chukes. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt plus I think Steelers know more than we fans about his potential. He’s still young and could improve quite a bit so I’m hopeful and optimistic he’ll be solid, not great but solid and that’s all I’m asking for.

never seen him rush the passer. what is his weakness in that? can he not give TJ or Highsmith a breather? why would you want us to give away a pass rusher? seems you're just throwing **** out there hoping something sticks. i cannot ever recall Chuks being beaten for a TD or long gain by any offense.

maybe rethink your sentence? slow down. use punctuation. breathe. think.
