Steelers beef up defensive line…

Adds some run defense capability if he sticks. I would think the practice squad is doable if he doesn't. I am assuming he is a NT in our team's scheme.

Hope he is not attached to # 58 he will be extremely disappointed if so

Will be difficult to even make the PS at dline. They are deep. I read yesterday that the Davis brothers or as I like to call them the Diaz brothers (Scarface reference) will likely fight it out for a practice squad job.

Who do you guys think will be roster Dline? PS? If they all stay healthy
Heyward, Alualu (provided he is healthy), Wormley, Ogunjobi, Loudermilk, Leal are the roster locks to me. Meaning Adams, Mondeaux, Davis Brothers and the rest fight it out for whatever is left.

I am not ready to call Alualu a lock yet. I want to see how far he has bounced back. I think Adams is close to being a lock if not a lock for NT insurance. Another wild card is if Ogunjobi starts out on IR freeing up an initial roster spot.

Who are your NTs then

The Steelers are the Steelers. Hopefully, Aluala is "back" but, if not, I just don't see them cutting him. That being said, adding beef for the preseason and developing a deep pool of D line options (including pure depth) in case either Aluala isn't back or Ogun needs to start on IR (as you note) or, God forbid, both. Not going to see all of these guys on the team, but a couple could get to the PS and it doesn't hurt to have some others on speed dial (if they perform ok in preseason).

Looking at Alualu's contract he is 3.5 m to play and just under 1m to cut. So yes I tend to agree. He needs to earn his spot with a 2.5 m cap savings. I think of Loudermilk as like a 3-4 tech not a nose. He looks like mini Heyward to me. But I could be wrong.

Ogunjobi was my sentiments as you stated as well. He may not be a roster spot until mid OCTOBER.

He's kinda short...

6'2" 295lbs...

Yes he is. Which is why I didn't see him at DE. I am thinking his weight is less accurate. I know Adams and Alualu is taller but Casey was short. I think at NT you can give up height for strength and leverage, girth, explosion, etc.

6'2, 300. Perfect size. Big Snack-like chubby. Having started in the league - he instantly becomes the backup.

And the only way they cut Alualu is if he got hurt. Even if he got old; they'd throw his *** out there before any one of those unproven players. Loudermilk was the only one who had any experience at NT from last year.

The whole defensive starting team showed up at his place and begged him to return the year before. That's how good he is. He's an All-Pro talent.

If he makes the team, I wonder how much he will be Cost-iN us $$$$$ ?

Is that proper use ?

Well, it's safe to say he won't be costin us a fortune.

What is certain is that any RB attempting to run at him will come at a Cost.

In the pic I saw with Birmingham he looks well over 3 bills... which is a good thing.

There’s no way in hell I would call us deep at DL. We were so lousy last year they need to invent a new word to accurately describe the level of suck we were.

That’s with Cam Heyward as the 2nd best Defensive Lineman in the game last year too.

Tyson Alualu is not an every down DL at 35 years old.
Larry Ogunjobi failing a physical is only reason for us getting him, so there’s no guarantee we have him at 100% all year.
DeMarvin Leal hasn’t played a down yet and is an upgrade over the weakness of 2021 line. But 3rd round picks didn’t exactly make our OL elite last year, so keep that in mind.

Losing Stephon Tuitt & Javon Hargrave is tough. And even they took time to develop and jell.

At this point, our “deep” unit is throwing whatever we can against the wall and hope it sticks

They don't seem to want to employ a true nose anymore. They prefer guys who look more like 4-3 DTs. Probably why they got **** pumped by the run last year.
Because a “true” NT is not viable. They got torched because we went from a unit with 3 Pro Bowl to All Pro level DL to 1 and a bunch of NFL Europe & Arena Football level DL with injury & FA.

Ok so the original post was about the FA they picked up. I'm saying Heyward, Larry O (true he could start in IR) Wormley, Leal, Alualu, Laudermilk are locks. They probably keep 6 maybe 7. And that doesn't include Adams who they were pretty happy with. So how is anyone else making this club. I'm not saying they will be great. I'm saying there are no spots.

So it’s like if you have 2 QBs you really have none type scenario?

I get what you mean, but the guys we have based on last year should be looking at their life’s work
