Steelers beef up defensive line…

We gotta hope that, for the most, that's not true.
:)
He was a 10th overall pick that didn’t live up to the draft status and found his niche.

There’s zero crime in that he’s never been a star. But I can’t help but find the irony in how he’s highly valued for being a good role player here, but if we drafted him 10th overall and that’s all he was , people would be as down on him as Terrell Edmonds

So it’s like if you have 2 QBs you really have none type scenario?

I get what you mean, but the guys we have based on last year should be looking at their life’s work
I think they will be above average to good. I think Laudermilk will make a jump. I think Alualu will help and I think once the new guy is healthy he will really improve over last year. And the rest are good rotation. But bottom line is there is no one you are getting at this point who is improving or making this team.

Great post and I might add in that at final cut down to roster you might get lucky and find a guy on the outside looking in due to some cap / strange / playing behind star / or just a move on situation. I don't count on anyting and I think we are ahead of last year's end of season DL.

Agreed.

i think 10th overall is ALOT to expect outta a 3-4 NT myself because... you're not gonna see him be a superstar. DC will not ever give him a chance to be that. Our system is the problem with superstardom. Look at the press Cam has received -- not exactly touted like Darnold. Yet Cam has been the better player. **** the howling people gave Strahan and then you look at TJ's press. :(

The point is: the Steelers DL aren't exactly going to ever live up to a 10th overall. Cam, maybe. AND that's a maybe because Pittsburgh considers him a star. Few outside do.
While the many in Pitt still see Alualu as a star once he got on the Steelers roster.

IMO, Jags tried to use a bull-rushing, run-stuffing 1/0 tech DT as a 3/5 tech NT and it did not work very well. Steelers got him and built one hell of a defensive pass rush with him on the point.

It's a matter of investment, we didn't spend a 1st in alualu. We value the investment vs reward formula, you pay top dollars you expect top performance. You invest top draft picks you expect pro bowls, simple ROI

Like anything NFL, I think the expectations of the actual team / FO is a lot different than the expectations of the fan. Edmonds is a good example of that, high draft and continous starter / acceptable. The FAN is disgruntled with him and expect much more. His statis may change but to this point it is what it is.

Edmunds as a second or third rounder. Good player. As a first he is a dissapointment. He has been durable, and a serviceable player. And that is a view that isn't just the fan. He had a dissapointing try at FA cause that is what he is.

YET.................. The front office keeps him on. Their expectations are different than the fans or more realistic.

I don't argue what you are saying but am stateing that expectations are different from Fan to Orgaization, the FAN being the pettier of the two.

They brought him back for 1 year 2.5 million. Derek Watt makes 2.75 million. I think we both have been around long enough to know what that means.

Exactly

Larry O is doing full Indi drills but not team. That has him on a timeliness to play in the games come September not October as some speculated.
