Steelers Draft Grade

I love how nothing has changed here. There’s still two trains of thought.
1. Steelers can do no wrong and they had a perfect draft.
2. Objectively looking at the draft and evaluating what you believe they did well and could have done better.

Group 1. can’t fathom how anyone questions any decision or player on the Steelers. Group 2. can’t understand why group 1. can’t look at the draft (subject) impartially.

Think I might need a BLT this week I am in the mood for a quality samich. 😄

Or B. Which unfortunately is the most likely scenario, they have Fautanu and Jones fight for RT and hand Moore the LT spot.
Looking at this "objectively," I can't imagine Kahn and company discussing who they should pick and deciding, let's keep our 2023 first round pick Jones at rt and let him compete with this year's first pick and sit the loser. We'll keep Moore where he is even though he just isn't that good and lord knows Jones nor Fautanu can't switch to left tackle where they played in college.

group 3 those that know the Steelers are not infallible, but are not so ego driven that they think they know more that the GM, scouts, head coach and ownership when it comes to evaluating NFL talent

Everyone gets mad at these grades and a B I would say is a slightly better than average draft
Here you go again. You put up your grades on a Steeler message board….and what? Expect everyone to agree with you just because you say so? Just who is getting mad? I read your grades…agree with some…not all. Just like everyone else here.

The Steelers drafted…..you agree with some….not all. See what I’m getting at here?
You post a well thought out grades, and your thoughts of why. Everyone reads with interest. If anyone is getting “mad” as usual it’s you. Because other posters don’t happen to agree with you. Then of course the insults start, because of course, how can people question your vastly superior intellect.

Personally,I think you need therapy and hope you seek the help you need. Being angry throughout life is bad for the ticker.

Sure I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get a top tier WR. Or a top tier CB.
But at the expense of what draft choice? We had many holes. We filled some. We need to fill more.
Was I surprised at our 4th round selection? Sure. As I’m sure 99% of this board was. But after reading about him, watching his tape and thinking about it,he is going to make a great addition. Contracts are coming up. We can’t afford everyone.

As much as I’d love to be proven wrong,we are not SB bound. This one draft was not going to get us there, but certainly help put us on track. We do need a first round type stud WR on rookie contract. We have 2 retread QB’s that other teams didn’t want, signed just because they were cheap, both basically on one year contracts. Potential? Yes. Unproven? Definitely.

But it all starts in the trenches. We drafted a RB,TE,QB,WR with premium picks on offense without fixing the trenches first. Who knows how much better all of them would have played if we would have fixed our line first. Wasting valuable years of rookie contract. I believe the trenches were #1 priority before there’s even a thought of getting to the next level.
And for those reasons I loved this draft.

Just because you rated Troy lower doesn’t make it so. I watched many Huskies games this year. They played tough competition. He was their heart and soul. A stud on the field and great person off. Go watch his introductory press conference.
Then his tape. Great pick.

When you disappeared for awhile (did you take my advice to seek therapy? You might need a little more,I worry about you Ford) it was quite refreshing not reading your posts on telling us what we should think…or not think.

Well, last year they kept out first round pick on the bench while Moore and Chuks stunk it up on the field. In fact nothing changed until Chuks made some comment about the offense. And from all accounts Tomlin loves Moore. Sounds like he’s a hard worker and good teammate. No reason to think he gets demoted while in the good graces of Shades.

Tell me how great the Cougars are again 😂.

Paul was drafted about where I said

Ceaser surprised me by slipping out of the draft but was signed very quickly by Seattle

pretty sure the kid I pimped the hardest the last couple of years had a very nice rookie season

not sure which group im in. I think this draft was another home run. Best in ages. I think they have had really ****** drafts. So far under kahn. They seem more in touch.

Weird how no one is arguing saying I gave the Steelers too high of a grade. 🤔

I do. This is correct. And I get I’m talking to casual fans but I very intricately detailed my rationale. And I’m not mad I just find it amusing that people will read a paragraph detailing how I came to my conclusion and get maybe a sentence response. If you disagree that’s fine. If you disagree and respond please just have a counterpoint.

I think you project your anger onto others. I’m not angry. I’m amused.

I agree we had lots of holes and not enough draft picks to fill them all. I referenced this during my mock along mock.

I would agree odds are not in our favor but I won’t say no until at least a month has passed in the regular season. If our QB situation improves and it should. And our revamped offensive line improves perhaps we are contenders. But yes, likely not.

I was fine with multiple offensive line picks. In fact I wanted two OL, and two DL picks as ww will have multiple holes up front in a season or two on both sides.

I didn’t say it would. We’ll see in 3-4 years. If he’s a stud tackle then I’ll be the first to admit that. And he could be. But the reason he is currently rated as a B, imo, is there’s questions about his knee and his ability to stay outside.

Now if I said he’s going to be the a phenomenal tackle and will be a multi pro bowler and Harris has 2000 yards and Warren gets a thousand I’m sure I’d get more praise. Sorry, that isn’t me.

Troy will get a crash course every day in practice if he is on the Right side. He will never face anyone in a game situation better than TJ Watt in practice. I will reserve judgement until the season starts

yeah, after OTAs, minicamps, training camp when a bunch of highly qualified coaches will decide on the best 5 man unit......hopefully 2 rookies can make the starting 5.

Why is that weird? Obviously the majority don’t agree.

Trying to tell everyone what they should think again?
Once again.…….Just because you said so…..doesn’t make it true.
😂 yep. The majority don’t agree. I bet if I go to the Ravens draft board they don’t feel the same about our draft. But I bet they believe they had the best draft as well.

*Slow clap* man you're just floating above everyone, go Stuart Smalley in a mirror, you'll find the affirmation you're looking for

Good lord Mann. What has the Ravens board have to do with anything You said.
Or did you go and post your Steelers draft grades on their site? Obviously it was the majority on this site.
And as usual you will twist people’s words. Get a grip Mann. The drafts over.

Just so the record is straight, you're saying Fautanu and Jones both will be placed at right tackle and battle it out. Loser rides the pine and Moore is our lt for the year. Got it.

I, like some others on here, can look at the Steelers objectively. I would say we are in the minority of fans in general. But it’s funny the people on groups 1 get so upset at the people in group 2.

It does because they wouldn’t have the same biased opinion on our draft. They would have their own biased opinion on their draft.

I don’t have any delusions that Moore is supplanted by either. Fautanu might ride the bench listed as the backup LT but in all reality he’d be the swing tackle. My opinion is the only real chance for Fautanu to start is if Jones beats Moore like a redheaded stepchild at LT and Moore refuses to move to RT.

But what makes you think that Moore is going anywhere? I mean last year when Jones took LT snaps he had one of the highest grades at LT that week and Shades immediately put him to RT. So why would Shades all of a sudden start putting the best players on the field? I mean Warren outplayed Harris how many games and never got the majority of snaps.

I’m not going to die on the Moore starts at LT hill because all last season I said Jones should have. But I haven’t seen Tomlin make a smart personnel decision unless injuries or a player speaking out against him forced him to make a smart decision. ie Chuks and Pickett

I am giving the Steelers a B+ for their 2025 draft.

I don't need to wait to see how they perform, damn man, I don't wait to see who they pick! I grade early because I know soooo much about football!!

Everyone gets mad at these grades and a B I would say is a slightly better than average draft.
who's everyone? I just disagreed, politely, on Fautanu grade
This is actually the second best grade I’ve given in the last 5 drafts. 2022 being the worst at C and 2023 being the best at A-. So it’s not a bad grade.
that just speaks of how mediocre we were drafting in the final colbert years.
And if Fautanu ends up our starting RT, with Frazier and McCormick starting interior lineman and Payton Wilson start ILB with Roman Wilson contributing as a slot guy then this could be a banger of a draft. But there’s question marks. We don’t have a sure fire RT stud. Fautanu has a high floor and will start some place on the line eventually but if he ends up at RG and McCormick ends up sitting behind him because of that even though he might be a more than capable RG then it’s not much of a win. If we drafted Mims for RT and then Frazier and McCormick I could see the line of sight for the future line with Jones at LT, Frazier C, McCormick OG, and Mims RT. But Mims was gone and I feel like Khan was scared of not getting a RT so he grabbed the best overall lineman on his board. Even though that lineman might not fill the need of RT.
drafting any of the available pure RTs there would have been a reach, we could have traded down but it takes two to tango and they had Fautanu rated very high in their board, this fact probably means they checked the injury history and wasn't meaningful and that, as Tomlin said after the pick, they see him as a pure Tackle. That alone elevates the value of the pick as if they saw him as a possible Guard then it would have been a bit of a reach
A B is a very fair grade. It could be an A if Fautanu works on run blocking and ends up a stud RT. If he kicks inside then probably a B. If McCormick ends up being the better interior lineman then a C.
I'm more inclined towards A- as my biggest worry was a trade up, holding on their spot and still getting who they wanted was what elevated my value of the draft
Roman Wilson isn’t an outside receiver. If you think he is 👍. Wait and see. He is a good slot receiver. He works best when he gets off the LOS untouched and on cross, slant or drags. He’s not a vertical threat. Could he become one? Sure. And I could bang Jessica Alba.
agree that right now he isn't, but he can develop in a couple of years, just like DJ was a project late in the 3rd

Speaking of DJ in comparison to Wilson their height weight is similar and Wilson is showing to be the more athletic of the two including that short area ability to get open that was talked up when DJ was being drafted. They just might have gotten a similar player without the early drop issues and later malcontent.

I think fans will be pleasantly surprised with Wilson and I definitely wouldn’t pigeon hole him into being just inside.
