Steelers First Round Pick - Derrick Harmon

Who’s the Dan Marino in this scenario? Don’t say the Sanders kid because 32 teams have passed on him………………….
You could've said the same of Marino who was passed on 26 times. Brady was passed on by every team multiple times. I can’t declare that Sanders or Dart or Shough or whoever will be good, bad or average and neither can you.
I’m not Taking nothing away from the Dan Marino, here’s the flip side of that

Many think that Marino would have instantly raised the bar for the Steelers, very possible. Also remember that the Steelers were in a tough / nose bleed / physical division, who’s to say he wouldn’t have gotten hurt / banged up. Our system wasn’t designed for the Marino as opposed to the Miami system being more compatible.
I think Marino was passed on for off the field concerns and I suspect, in part, Sanders was as well, one of those being his father.
YES, I would have taken the Marino back then, but that was 42 years ago and no bearing on today’s game. Are you saying Sanders is the next Marino, I think not.

All this is speculation and just a flip side.

Moral to the post “Don’t lower our standards by dissing on a 1.21 draft pick before he even gets a chance to play”
Pointing out the similarities of the Steelers needs of 1983 and today, what they did with the picks and hoping for different result isn’t dissing on the pick.

The moral of any draft post “Everyone is mostly wrong about the draft and almost every pick, to some extent, is a mistake.” It’s silly to get overly excited or overly angry about any pick.

I'm less aggravated by the Marino non pick than the 1999 goat-f**k of taking Troy Edwards at 15 with Jevon Kearse sitting there.....

Just recalling it ruins my day.

Side note, I was at Bradshaw's last game... Against the Jets at Shea Stadium in NY in 1983....that is a good memory.... 😊
The Edward’s pick always gets mentioned but it is far from the worst. Edward’s at least belonged in the NFL, unlike Huey Richardson and Tom Ricketts.

There's nothing wrong with that strategy, but the players selected still have to produce on the field.

Noone can say yet with any confidence the likes of Broderick Jones, Keanu Benton and Troy Fautanu will be consistently strong performers going forward.

This upcoming season will indicate a lot when it comes to them.

Harmon was great value where he was picked, but like with Fautanu, the health concerns should not be so quickly dismissed, as some players are just more prone to them than others.
That's why I hated Jones playing the right side last season in favor of a guy who they knew wasn't going to be here this year. That was one more season of not answering a question about the future.

But if that pick is pick #20 feel free to criticize the minute after it happens🤣 I remember crushing KFP the minute after the Steelers made that mistake…one of the most obvious busts waiting to happen in recent memory. Heck I was more optimistic about Jarvis Jones when they took him than KFP.

I think I woulda been less harsh on Milroe than I was on KFP (so glad we didn’t take Milroe-whew).

Now if we can just get through today with GP still on the roster I’ll be happy on day 2 also…worst case scenario- they trade GP to get back into the 2nd and take Milroe. (Yeah I’m tryna jinx **** again 🤣)

Who’s overly excited and who’s overly angry???? Marino ????

Your post(s) have zero effect on me, sorry if you were caught up in anger and excitement……………………

I simply stated the flip side of the 42 year old Marino beat to death scenario.

PS. T*mmyb*y is ill comparison due to the ****-ing cheating ***-hole that he is.

good solid pick! honestly hoping they get McCord if they go for a QB. should go after one of the backs available and still think OL needs work! Will be interesting to see how things play out!
I think saying it a 5th time will really make your point. Do it...

Love it, you went right after the person picked. You didn’t chase a back-door dream scenario that had nothing to do with the pick actually taken. I live and die by the short sleeves I wear, sometimes I have to come back and BBQ……………….

In any event I’m the pilot who flies the many different time dimension(s) skies……………..

Peace out and keep the flair-gun close.!!!

I don't want any parts of that poop storm... far worse than the Sanders family...
Who needs either?

Steelers have had way too much drama with their most productive players on O for the past decade.....since the dumbaasery of "young money".

Is there an actual upside from the media shitshow that follows Prime? I mean, it's not like in CO where he's been tasked to reflate a mid-tier college program......unless you think he can help Tomlin get over his past decade of disappointment.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I pointed out the odd similarities between the two drafts and said I hope the result would be different. You took that as dissing the pick.

Brady won 7 Super Bowls with many different players, two different teams and two different head coaches. To deny that it was a mistake for every team to pass on him multiple times is completely absurd.

I was specifically referring to the upcoming QB play...

I can't wait to hear the remarks this season - I'll be eating popcorn...
Sure but it won't be from me. Write that down. I'd prefer to go with Mason and cut the 9-10 win UNLESS Mason has matured which is not impossible. Who thought Sam Darnold would succeed.

Let’s be honest. Draft picks can only be truly evaluated three or four years later and the Steelers biggest problem hasn’t been addressed other than signing Mason Rudolph.

I find myself suddenly haunted by the 1983 Draft where, with the 21st pick, the Steelers passed on a QB named Dan Marino to draft a DL named Gabe Rivera. The fact that Rivera was paralyzed in a car accident months later doesn’t really matter. He could’ve been the best DL ever and the pick still would’ve been a mistake. Let’s hope the 2025 NFL Draft isn’t Deja Vu all over again.

The 1983 first round also had seven future HOFers.

I have a feeling that Jaxson Dart will be special.
Maybe it’s because I got sucked in by his highlight video.

For every highlight video, there should be a lowlight video to balance it out so as to curb your enthusiasm.

As long as he does better than Zach Wilson, he'll be ok in my book.

Utahans cringe when Zach is mentioned 🤣🤣🤣

Well that went over my head because I don’t know what Utah has to do with Wilson.

I know Wilson is with the Dolphins, but I don’t follow college ball or its players.

BTW, I love the Harmon pick only because everyone else does!

If it was your call, who would you have taken there Top?
Would have tried to trade down with the Giants. For the #25 pick, they gave up #34 and #99 today, and a third-round pick next year. For the #21 pick, maybe it's a second in 2026 instead of a third? I don't know.

I really like Will Johnson, too, but he's in the same injury boat with knee issues.
