Grey looked quick in his drills. Pretty impressed with the overall athleticism of this group.
Add Grey and Colson too.
Should be some decent options in that 2/3 round range.

Cooper made his drills look easy. Just fluid movements that looked effortless. He looks like a safe prospect. His 4.5 40 was solid as well.
Texas A&M ILB Edgerrin Cooper also met with Mike Tomlin and the Steelers.
I think it's safe to say that Shades will "overestimate" Trotter due to his last name more than most NFL coaches/GMs.IMO---Trotter's is somewhat overly hyped due to his surname...
Not only that, but if you don't have an effective NT in a 3-4 your ILBs will be hindered and so far, Shades hasn't soaked that factor in so much.In my opinion no ILB should have a first round grade unless he can play run and pass well at a high level. Shazier had a rough start but attained that status.
Agreed if you have an immovable stone in the middle you don't need as big a run stuff in there. They just can't stand in quick Sand like Devin Bush. Not only that, but if you don't have an effective NT in a 3-4 your ILBs will be hindered and so far, Shades hasn't soaked that factor in so much.
I'd love to get a player in the 3rd round for ILB, if possible, considering all our other needs (OC, DL, RT, CB). If we could hit on 3 out of 5 that would be outstanding.Cooper made his drills look easy. Just fluid movements that looked effortless. He looks like a safe prospect. His 4.5 40 was solid as well.
over time I've realized my strengths and weaknesses evaluating players in the draftYeah I was one of Watt's biggest pimpers.
Not going to go down that yellow brick road with Trotter Jr.
I will say I don't think he will bust out. I just don't think he will star either. I think you will get a good player. Which is ok if that is all you are expecting. For our 1st or 2nd rounder I hope for more than that.
I know this take won't be popular with some but I wouldn't touch ILBer until round 3.
**** we just dig in and see what we think. We don't have access to all the videos/game film and or have the time to see them all.over time I've realized my strengths and weaknesses evaluating players in the draft
I thought Jarvis might be an impact player, can't be more wrong than that...I just suck at evaluating LBs (huge weakness)
I've been pretty much money on QBs over the years though (strength)
As I get older and wiser I've become smart enough to defer to the opinions of some of the resident experts here when looking at LBs pre draft
Mike Mamula....comes to mind: Came to the combine as a no one; his size, speed and strength made his stock blow up for the draft. The sucker Eagles wasted a 1st round pick on him. He ended up doing nothing in the NFL.I always feel they better show glimpses of being a football player first. Because the size , athletic profile can develop theory usually doesn't end well....

I'm with the Jimmy Johnson school on the draft: production aces everything else. When asked if Zach Thomas' lack of height didn't concern him, Jimmy said "We won't be asking him to change light bulbs around here."
Too bad no one taught him to tackle properly. Watching Shazier play, I always said he was going to get hurt from his poor tackling form. I never expected him to get hurt that bad though. In my opinion no ILB should have a first round grade unless he can play run and pass well at a high level. I think the best determinant is on field playIf we are talking Steelers looked like Tarzan played like Jane? Look no further than Steve Conley. But yeah there is many examples. **** if you take the broad jump, 40 yard dash,3-cone, shuttle ,vert testing the best of the best within the history of.
You see a huge amount of failures. Then you see a guy with soso speed, average across the board measurables but highly productive on the field. They will never be able to measure heart and determination. Or if a college player maxed out, etc.
The inexact science will forever be.
I remember one time I said something similar about a guy with the last name Watt…I touted he’d be good not great, more of a 2nd-3rd round talent…boy am I glad how wrong I was!!!
Not saying your assessment is off base by any means, I haven’t seen too many of his games tbh
Just made me think back to what a dumbass I was with the Watt assessment, love when a player proves me wrong…
Come on Kenny- I said your ceiling was mid a true QB2 in the making, please please please make me eat crow
I love eating some bacon wrapped crow
Same with Troy every tackle was a head first knife out of legs. He was lucky. Ryan was not.Too bad no one taught him to tackle properly. Watching Shazier play, I always said he was going to get hurt from his poor tackling form. I never expected him to get hurt that bad though.
The Crow?Isn't he 6'0" ?
The trotterThe Crow?
Yes 6 foot but his head size more than makes up for it.The trotter
The Crow?
head size is important indeedYes 6 foot but his head size more than makes up for it.
