Steelers Have A Winning Season

This season has been an interesting one to say the least. Here we are playing good football in December, and getting better as we go. The team is starting to come together at the right time. We got two more at home.....let's keep the momentum!!!!!

This is what I'm seeing too!!! Rock On

Salute the nation

for better or worse, all the "Fire Tomlin" and "Fire Haley" talk should simmer now with a winning record and a prolific offense. Hanging onto those 8-8 seasons have come to an end. Unless they totally collapse, the PO are in our future. Life is good! Proud to be a Steeler fan!

right, a non-scoring O. Not what you want from an OC. He left and we have a scoring O.

Problem is that the D went downhill about the same time.

sounds like Martyball has been passed down from Cowher to Arians.

But there have been improvements, albeit small ones, in that unit lately as well. A solid draft or free agent signing could do wonders for the defensive side of the ball. A consistent pass rush will help cover up some of the secondary woes.

The D played better yesterday than they have in most games this year. Tombert has done nothing to inspire confidence that they will be able to find and draft good defensive players however.

He was a terrible OC here. The AZ offense is one of the lowest scoring in the league. There defense is tops in not allowing scoring. He can be given props for what he has done as an HC, but his tenure as OC here was less than glorious.

An offensive coach with a bad non scoring O but a tough D. The opposite of what we have.

This is 100% correct. We didn't call him Field Goal Bruce for nothing. This guy seems very likeable with players, and has good people skills, which are traits that a head coach needs. His X's and O's.....eh not so much. As a coordinator, I take Haley 10 times out of 10 over B.A.

Speaking of defensive players, can we get a McCullers report, please? Did he play? How'd he do? I couldn't focus on him like I normally do (and the TV cameras don't help)

We have had a few comments regarding Tomlin actually doing some good things on the sideline, again. Maybe the experience is starting to pay off and he can continue to improve. I have been an anti Tomlin guy for a while but kept wishing he would get better from what we would see on the field. He appears to be moving in the right direction at least instead of the dazed and confused. Now maybe he will figure out how not to **** up a draft like Al Davis was so famous for. In the past year we have Tuitt and McCullers that look pretty good and at least Shazier has potential even though he has been injured a bunch but he may not work out, and we have Bryant. If he can step up with a good solid 4 players next year and a good run in the playoffs he might be coming around to what we want. It looks like he will definitely be here now for a while and if so I hope he continues to get better.

Nothing has changed with Tomlin...hes been the same all year...the thing thats improved is offensive efficiency, red zone proficency and the reduction in penalties...at the beginning of the year we led the league in infractions (ranked #32). Now we're middle of the pack (@#19). Theres no light bulb clicking on with this coach...its all what happens on the field and we are executing better, moving the chains (keepin drives alive) and thats making all the difference.....now, had we executed better in a couple games (namely TB defensively and NYJ w turnovers) we would be lookin at a #1 seed and HFA possibly.

Tomlin didnt suddenly wake up....he was never asleep.

We will differ. Tomlin has displayed many WTF looks on the sideline as far as I am concerned and I do see a difference in things he has been doing. If you think after 8 years he has not learned anything or improved you must think he was born to be a head coach. Never said he was asleep. He just looked completely out of place and unaware to me when he started he is looking better. If he keeps going he could become good. I am also not talking about just one year. Also possibly the improvements you list could have something to do with coaching causing those changes to take place. Even if it drops down to the entire coaching staff being involved the head coach is likely to want certain things emphasized during the season and will relay that to the subordinates. The Steelers brought in zebras to work with the team during practices this season as well, and i do not think that was an NFL wide movement.

Depends on your definition of "good". Do you mean good as in solid/starter material or good as a euphemism for All-Pro/HOF? Because if it's good as in solid/starter material, well then: Timmons, Woodley (for a good while), Heyward, K. Lewis, Mundy (he's starting and doing at least avg.), McLendon (run D is much improved with him in the lineup), Mauro (hey we "found" him), Williams (coming along nicely), Tuitt (will be a good one), Shazier (jury remains out, but he flashes special skills).
All are/have been/are potentially "good" solid starter material drafted or found by "Tombert". That said, they haven't done much to inspire confidence that they are able to find or draft "good" starter material defensive backs.

9 wins with a chance at 11, a division title and the playoffs. If the players are not motivated by that then they should be playing for the browns or raiders. On a good note i saw Harrison doing Hexbar deadlifts with close to 600 pounds. I would figure he's a go for next week....haha

Harrison for the playoffs would be a good sign.

Yep. The team can't rest on a winning season. They have to come out ready to play for the next two weeks. No let downs by players or coaches.

But, You can't Do that!
