Steelers kicking the tires on Ogunjobi (signed 1 year deal)

If all of them are healthy it will be a tough choice to cut one. After Heyward and alualu we have Wormley, Loudermilk, Adams and Leal, now with Ogunjobi that's 7.

We might trade Wormley for a 4th after it's all said and done.
I'd love to see that happen, but it's highly unlikely as Tomlin seems to love Wormley for some unknown reason.

his stats last season could make him an interesting option for many teams

Somebody said "Going by stats is shortsighted and almost dumb." I think that might apply here in Wormley's case.

Hoping the Steelers are smart enough to have not signed him if he wasn't healthy and ready to play, sooner rather than later.
We've had enough sweat suit models on the sideline.

True but like Shane Flaco mentioned earlier I can wait until October. It's possible the team doctors or a local specialist examined his MRIs from March and now and told the FO there's significant improvement and he should be good to go in a couple months. Bringing him in now gives him time to learn the defense, place him on IR in August and let him loose in October.

A wishful conjecture I know but there's no rush as long as they're right about his projected progress.

That's why some dumb team might fall for it and I think is the best of the group to trade away

I don't see how he fails the physical in Chicago, doesn't get picked up by the Jets even though they are dog **** and have significant cap room and now he is a Steelers player.

Two valid considerations but the Bears physical was three months ago and it was a 40 million contract. I understand the reservations. The Jets medical experts may also have reservations and offered less. I think Kahn is going to be more aggressive (for better or worse) than Colbert and was given a positive medical evaluation coupled with a one year contract.

So, apparently, he did have a lis franc joint injury. They must have just signed him on the cheap in hopes he can play at some point this year. If they got him cheap enough, it should be low risk with decent rewards if he can get healthy.

Especially at this time of the year, it's a terrific addition at an area that needed depth. Hopefully he is fully recovered sooner rather than later.

He can start on IR or pup or something and by the time we have some dings he will hopefully be ready

Ogunjobi might end up on that Injured designated to return so that may buy some time. You never know what may happen 6 weeks or so with roster designation.

We have some of the best team doctors available so I'd bet the STEELERS explored all avenues in that regards. That doesn't mean the STEELERS didn't take a risk / reward in this but are hoping for the reward part.

Me too !!!\

Maybe/maybe not. It’s a 1 year deal. If it were 2 ok. But he definitely brings a presence opposite of Cam that is needed. Not exactly at Tuitt level but enough to help Highsmith or TJ. He can command a double team the same as Cam. I am happy with the depth of the D line now.
Bingo...

I thought it was named the "Legarret Blount disgruntled player award"
Blount/Deebo/Ingram, all fooled for half a season by Tomlin.

I don't know the numbers yet but this is a true risk/reward signing and, whichever way it goes, it is only for one year. For all of the peeps complaining, isn't that basically what we were getting in a certain other D-line player (if he hadn't retired)? If O is healthy, we have a starter with tremendous upside and Worley gets to be the number 1 rotational player, which is good for him too. As long as this is not much over that "other" guy's owed money, this is the same deal with BIG upside and little obligation.

I think if played right we will get a 4th out of Mason. Call me "babbled" but it could happen.

If Mason performs well in a pre-season showing his stock will rise. He will NOT surpass Mitch and Pickett isn't going anywhere.

Would love to get that for him, but thought the conditional 5th was pressing our luck 😂 are the Panthers desperate enough yet??? Only so long ya can sniff around Jimmy G and Baker with their huge contracts. Here kitty, kitty…give us your pick please

Wormley played well last season, maybe that’s why MT seems to love him? A good player at a decent price…not sure what’s not to like?

probably the whole Nation remembers how the D was gashed against the run and Wormley specialty isnt run D
Yeah, he’s definitely not a plus player vs the run. A lack of a true NT (until Adams was somewhat helpful plugging the middle) and having Bush run from contact left us very exposed in the middle of the D. Couple that with Heyward having to play nonstop due to a lack of bodies and no wonder our run D sucked.

Hopefully the additions to the DL, the return of Alualu and signing Jack can help solidify the creamy middle of the twinkie that was our run defense last year.

As Litos suggested, Wormley is a liability against the run. He is regularly manhandled at the line of scrimmage. And although his seven sacks last year look respectable on the stat sheet, 35% of those came in one game, and as I recall several of his sacks were gifts from the opposing quarterback either holding the ball too long and/or scrambling right into his arms.

Wormley is a bottom-of-the-rotation backup, not starting material, and the Steelers run defense paid dearly for it last season. That's what's not to like.
