Steelers place the right of first refusal tender on AA Ron.

Ben is probably the best steeler of all time. Joe and Troy would be the 2 you could probs persuade me to reconsider.

I would like to see Ben behind the current offense line the Steelers have.
I think he could be every bit a sgo9d as Rodgers

The thing is that the STEELERS have so many great players from all the era’s.

James Harrison is another to come to mind. Franco / Terry / Bettis / just so many that it is hard to name a single best.

You’re right about Ben / Joe / Troy, but I think Franco needs to be inserted there as well as we didn’t win anything till he showed up.

Thanks for all your great post(s) BLITZ, I appreciate yaz.

I wasn't around then, but from all the documentaries and shows about the Steelers, it seemed like the loser mentality was punted out the door by Mean Joe(and Noll, but we're talking players). Yes it's so hard to pick just one guy, Lambert needs to be up there as he was the face of the franchise.

I'm not angry about Rodgers, but I do think they should move on from him and that it is best for the team long term. Who cares about getting to the playoffs and losing in the 1st round? Just let the young guys battle it out to see what you have. Realistically, you have to take 2 or 3 years to find out. Let's get that process moving. If they have a crappy year, so be it. Then, maybe you have a good 1st round spot and can bring in a 3rd young guy to battle it out with Howard and Allar.
This is the crux of the matter. Why bring Rodgers back just for another year of high-end mediocrity? I'm not really convinced that at the age of 42/43, the guy is the best option to meet even that modest level of success. You just spent the #76 pick in the draft on a quarterback. You've already got another young QB and a proven backup on the roster. Get the process moving, and find out what you have.

And as far as the Rodgers as a mentor argument...I'm not so sure about that either. First of all, the gentleman is already setting a bad example by not being around for voluntary team activities. That's not good leadership from the quarterback position, it's just selfish. Secondly, 76% of his passes went less than 10 yards in the air last season. He led the league in getting the ball out the quickest (2.59 seconds). One of the main reasons which Allar supporters throw out there in his defense is that he was forced to throw shorter, safer passes, and he wasn't given the opportunity to use his big arm and stretch the field. Do we really want him learning from an aged veteran who led the NFL in those types of short and safe throws?

I say no. Please. Thanks but no thanks.

As per the mentor thing...I look at the line of Green Bay QBs. Favre to Rodgers to Love, they have similar play styles. Movement in the pocket, different arm angles, accuracy off of the back foot. Is that just a coincidence? Idk, maybe it is. If not, I'd like for some of that to rub off on Howard and Allar. That's really the only reason I'd want anything to do with Rodgers...if it's not just coincidence.

Ben after elbow surgery 55 TD's 7,500 yards in two seasons. The year after elbow surgery, he had 3 WR's put up better numbers than DK Metcalf did, and none of them were paid as the #4 WR in the NFL. JuJu 97 catches, Dionte 88 catches, Chase(rookie)67 catches, a rookie who hasn't done a damn thing in the NFL since, had a better year than DK Metcalf did with Rodgers. The following season Dionte was a 107 catch almost 1200 yard WR, Dionte F'n Johnson. This was the Oline Dan Moore (rookie), Dotson(2nd year) Kendrick Green(rookie), Trai Turner, Okafor. I don't think I need to mention who is OC's were.

I think you guys are all missing point, as usual when anyone brings up Ben, no one is saying we should've kept him around longer than we did, we're saying they forced him to retire, a franchise all-time great, same as Troy, Hines, etc. but here we are allowing a 42 year old guy that hasn't done a damn thing here, and was sh!t vs playoff teams last year, string us along all while giving him better weapons and giving him a better Oline.

I would argue getting better weapons and upgrading the offensive line is all part of the plan to have a good spot to put a rookie starting in 2027.

Last things we want to do is use up 2027 and 2028 draft capital, move up to get a franchise caliber QB and not have any foundation of O-line or WR weapons in place around him when we throw him to the wolves.

The extra cap space without ARod on the roster will also help fix holes. All part of Project 2027.
