Bad news struck the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday during their first padded practice of the season. Promising rookie cornerback Cory Trice suffered what appeared to be a right leg injury. Trice immediately went down on what was the last play of the Steelers team session of practice.

That's a shame. Hopefully not as serious as it sounds but even if it's an injury that he can return from in a month or two, his rookie year has been set on hold. Doubt he'll see much action during the regular season. Some pundits mentioned that his prior injuries is why he fell to the 7th, hate to see this.

That really sucks for him. Rookies going down early like this have a huge uphill climb (exponentially harder than normal) to come back and make it in the league. Hopefully, it is minor and he can get back quickly.

Man. If it wasn't for bad luck the Steelers wouldn't have any luck at all...

Dang, the bug.

We shall see what it is.

Yes SIR, need to find out what the injury and seriousness of it before we jump to conclusions.

I won’t speculate but I’ve had injuries that hurt like hell day of and next day be no problem.

He went down without any contact.....never like seeing that.....kid has potential to be an NFL Starter too. Hopefully he can make it back to the active roster but seeing him go down it sounds like a serious knee injury. He's had a history of injuries in college....most likely why he fell down the draft boards to the 7th Round.

Injuries are never Ideal… hopefully this looked worse than it was but if it is a bad case, it isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the long run.

I know he is absolutely a fan favorite, but honestly if he goes on IR and is lost for the season it might actually keep us from losing him, because he is behind Peterson, Jpjr, Wallace, and Pierre on the outside… he will have to convince them to use a second cb slot on a rookie and probably his best bet there was to show out in the slot.

History says are keeping 10 dbs.
Porter is a rookie and a lock outside. Old man Peterson is pretty much playing suttons role.
Then you have Wallace and Pierre who both play outside pretty exclusively the fifth cb is typically primarily a slot guy. They are still in their primes and know the system and both had fairly good seasons here last year.

At safety you have Fitzpatrick, Kazee and Neal as pretty much locks.
As odd as it seems, killibrew is great enough on special teams that he probably isn’t getting displaced …so the two remaining spots, one will go to a safety that can play slot and the other will go to a slot cb…

Maybe trice can play slot… but again history says they will favor sullivan or dawson in that role because of experience and because they already are going with a rookie in the defensive backfield…. Maybe he can play killer special teams and dislodge the current captain, freeing up a db spot…
He has the feeling of a guy we all love who can be developed who the team would try to sneak onto the practice squad and then lose him…
And usually if late round guys don’t get developed by their first team, they never get an honest chance elsewhere…

I didn't see the play but when I first read about it, the article said several players fell on him. Either way, it sucks and hope it's not as bad as they think.

Any word out yet to the severity of the injury ?

I saw the players worked out other DBs, but hopefully it’s an extended injury as opposed to a season ending one. Really want some good news on this one.

The issue is that he is a rookie and they are more likely to just preseason IR him , though they did take CA3 into the season last year before ir’ing him

The difference is that preseason IR you are lost for the season but the team saves a roster spot while if you go on ir in the season, you can come back…

You can also take the risk of waiving injured a preseason ir guy then resigning him after a certain period of time… I would not suggest that tactic with Trice though… a team will claim him

Aware of the preseason IR, but I'd rather it be an injury he is back from in November than just getting warmed up next June.

If he is going to miss the preseason due to the injury or even most of it, I doubt they keep a spot for him. They will put him on IR. He is a rookie late round pick who hasn't had a chance to even show what he can do in pads and especially in preseason games. Unless he can come back in a couple weeks, his season is probably over anyhow. It sucks but that's the likely outcome.
