Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Archer has not competed in the back on backers drill. Unless something changes they have no plans on him picking up blitzes

Still not the issue with badpussy. Hell you even knew that wasn't what I was talking about. You read my responses and knew I was talking about me never using absolutes not that I never criticized him because of his size.

I love it when someone says "I never use absolutes" :) I know, it's the dick in me, but I love saying "I always hear people saying that, but they never seem to apply it universally". :)

Joe

so, who wants to talk with me in absolutes?

I absolutely can't wait to see the Steelers play Saturday!

yep

Maybe a smart move to select both Archer and the Steelers D in fantasy this year?

I think it's perfect, let the backer blitz and he runs behind the LB. Yeah, if Timmons and Shazier can't track down Archer from behind you think any other LB is going to. Just have Ben recognize the blitz and drop the pass over the LB's head and let Archer do his thing.

See this is the problem RIGHT here. You take TMC's evaluation and opinion with way too much weight on it. TMC is a very knowledgeable football fan and I do enjoy listening to his opinion, even if it differs from my own. In fact I really try not to point out when I do have a differing opinion because inevitably it ends up in a debate. This time I jumped in head first and that's because on the draft thread I said when our third round pick came up that my head thinks Bryant but who I want is Archer and we ended up wanting both and getting both. He blasted the Archer pick which I then felt obligated to share my opinion. Of course his opinion is far better than mine for some unknown reason and he tried to drive his opinion down mine and others throats. We liked the pick and we are knowledgeable football fans so if he can't handle it, too bad. Maybe two years from now he will be right and stating that a third round pick will be a bust is not going out on much of a limb but me and others are rooting for the kid and can't wait to see what wrinkle he brings to the offense and return game.

I know what you mean. He felt he was right on his evaluation. (The guy publishes his critiques and picks, and for this his opinion on draftees is held in higher esteem on my part than a lot of others) you felt you were right, and spoke up... GOOD that's what this board is all about. I on the other hand,, think TMC was / is probably right based on rainey and others.. but elect to take a wait and see and hope attitude.. That, I believe got me into the Circle Jerk Fan Club.. Im not sure though... as the membership varies on who disagrees with Vader .
TMC and del,, are the closest thing to mel kiper on this board. Unless Todd Mcshay is smurfing as someone else here on the forums. We all have our opinions , im just sad / pissed TMC didn't stick it out ,, hopefully he will come back.

So have you been encouraged by the news coming out of training camp or are you still in the stupid pick camp?

I'm encouraged by the news however the same type of news has come out about a ton of rookies over the years. I just didn't like the draft pick. I never said that he was a bust or was never going to contribute in any way. I wanted to take someone that has an opportunity to start. Archer can never do that. He's never going to be a starting WR or RB.

So every pick in the draft has to start at some.point to be considered a good pick? Or third round and higher? So if he is a gamechanger in any way its still not a good pick?

So you wanted to pick a player at the very end of the third round that was going to come in and be a starting player. Well you can rejoice then, cause Dri Archer will be our starting kick returner, our starting punt returner, and our starting splash-play, do-it-all WR/RB utility player (of which we don't have anyone else on the roster). Mission accomplished!

Starts don't win games, points win games. I don't care how much he's on the field, if he helps us get points, and we win, I'm thrilled with that.

Case in point, Kordell Stewart would have done far more for this team in his non starting slash role, with a good qb, than he ever did 'STARTING' at qb.

Weren't Coryea and TMC the biggest Kordell apologists around here at one time?

Lol, I used to piss a few people off all the time ripping on Kordell so bad. I can't remember which one of the old timers it was but he loved Kordell with a passion and he used to get so irate at me. I'm drawing a blank at the moment but it will come to me.

I could be wrong was it Wig? I didnt post back then but loved Kordell. Just couldnt get it done. Wasnt mentally tough enough. Let everything get to him. Never learned how to forget a bad play and move to the next.

I really hoped for Kordell too, I was a pretty big supporter, problem was the dude was 1 step forward two steps back, he'd show flashes that would make me think he'd finally gotten it, then the next game it was worm burner, worm burner, int. Guy drove me to drink. Again, like all Steelers, I kept hoping, but by the end I was glad to see them finally give up on him.

Joe

You're a liar. I said "I know I never said it" in reference to ant saying:

So I was saying I never said that he can't, will never. I didn't speak in absolutes about him making it. So either you are ******* liar or you can't read. Which is it?

Wow. A little defensive, eh? You got caught *****. Just admit it and move on.

That sums it up for me as well. The kid had moments where is athletic ability really helped the team. He just could not seem to read the defenses and the numerous offensive coordinators seemed like a nightmare for him. He just could not get from decent to good.

I was firmly on the Kordell bandwagon as well. I kept trying to will him into being a good player. I refused to accept his bad play, I kept imagining the player I thought I should be seeing. Year after year I kept thinking it was right around the corner that Slash would just take off and become a big-time, consistent playmaker. I held out hope until the very end, that he would turn it around.

ahhhh slash......................... I loved the idea of it so much, I made it into my nickname.

If he would have stayed as slash, the Steelers and Stewart would have been better for it..

If Archer could be half as productive in that role I would be ok with the pick.

Time will tell..............

I liked Kordel too!!! Wanted him to stay as SLASH, but he didn't. His career / fame would have been lights out, had he stuck to what was best for the team. Amazing, his Jersey did more sales than todays Johnny Football. Went to #1 overnight.

Salute the nation

The point is that badpussy is using a quote of mine out to say something I didn't say.
wait. hold up a second.
what?

he's using a quote of yours ... something you admit to saying... that is interpreted as something you didn't say ... but you said it ... and admit to saying it ... but it wasn't what you said.

are you a politician?
