Steelers sign Cordarrelle Patterson

I think you guys are missing the point of this signing. Kickoff returns are now huge and he is going to be that guy.

Ding Ding. The rule changes may mean that kickoff returns become big play opportunities once again. The new formation will have 2 return men back. Steelers sign Patterson and the speedster Quez Watkins. Omar seems ahead of the curve.

Maybe Dri Archer will show up uninvited to camp like WIllie Mayes Hayes.

Dri, would have a better chance of showing as we have a way better ground crew who seem the keep the grass very trim.

He may run like Mays but he hits like ****

Patterson can still run like a MF. He'll give you quality snaps on Offense. He is electric to watch as KOR. He is one of those guys who every time they touch the ball on a kick, anything can happen. With the new rules, the Steelers might want to look at a favorite of mine Leadtrick "Tulu" Griffin WR from Mississippi State.

Id definitely add another kR to the PS ... a late round or udfa... gonna be a thing this season

Even at his age he is a decent kick returner. Also makes a perfect RB3/WR 3.5 for Mr. Smith's offense. Say what you will, they are giving Smith what he wants for his scheme.
And Mikey loves a tweener
RS/RB/WR

And at 3 million per that is the going rate for a specialist on the Steelers, the math adds up

We, as Stiller fans, don't need to understand the genius of Omar Khan, we should simply sit back and marvel as it unravels in front of our very eyes.

CP had been looking great until this past year. I had him on my FF team. He was even putting up nice rushing and receiving yards. This past year was bizarre as they just didn't seem to use him. Hopefully, he still has some juice left.

This guy isnt being signed as a RB... he is tge new KR now that they modified the rules like huge ******** to push offense
3 million a season? I mean 3-4 years ago definitely. But now... HELL NO!!!!!! We could just as easily draft a guy. Daequan Hardy from Penn State imo would be a guy you can draft in the later rounds, he can compete for the nickel or dime DB and be your punt and kick return guy. He had 7 PD, 2 ints, 3 tfl, 1 sack and only allowed a 71 qb rating when targeted last year. He minds me of a faster Mike Hilton. 4.38 40, 42.5" inch vert, 129" broad jump and a 1.5 10 yard. He also averaged 14.6 in punt returns. Or go earlier and snag Xavier Worthy who could replace DJ as a starter and be your return man.

Just seems like an expensive guy who is over the hill and if the Steelers would draft a guy like Worthy or Hardy might not even be the best option for returning kicks.

He is very old, but low mileage for his age?
Only played RB for a few seasons plus the fact that in his 9th and 10th season in the league he was a more efficient runner than Najee, by far, and almost as efficient as Bijan Robinson.
If he comes in and outperforms Harris in his 12th season in the league, bye bye Najee

I doubt he is in the mix at RB at all... maybe a handful of snaps this season... he will be tge special teams RB. We have Heyward at te/fb who plays the coverage roles. The third RB is always special teams savvy... they just used the role for a return guy last season

At 33 he is on the boundry of aging out as a returner.. there are several high end KR that still were extremely effective at 33... a couple even at 34... and he just turned 33 ten days ago...

also he had little use as a RB before he went to atlanta. He had 50 carries last season, 144 the year before that and 153 the season he arribed in atlanta... prior to that he had one season in Chicago where he got 64 carries and one in NE where he got 42 carries the other 6 years he had 17-13-12-10-7-2 carries. He was a low use WR every year before he got to atlanta, but he only has 440 career targets and 298 catches... add in his returns and he has only been tackled around 1000 to 1100 times (hard to say how often he went out of bounds or untouched or got tackled on dropped passes, lol its an estimate)

I dont know if 3 per is a good deal or not yet... that is now the cost of premium ST guys somehow... low miles but higher age... its definitely a gamble

Please, please do not be Jacoby Jones part II. Remember him boys? Jacoby would tear us up but by the time we got him he was a shell of himself. He was bad when we got him.
I just hope at 33 this guy doesn’t turn out to be like Jacoby at this stage of his career.
I hope he plays his *** off!

That is explained by the fact the Falcons used the #8 pick on Bijan Robinson, a 3-down back. Robinson was the #1 RB, moving Allgeier to #2 and Patterson out of the mix.

There is a reason why Smith wanted him, He may be primarily a KR, but they used him in short yardage situations in Atlanta. Perhaps he earns that role in the 'Burgh as well?

This…you can’t get a bag of chips in the NFL for $3 million a year. This guy fills 3 roles. Granted, at his age, he could fall off the cliff, but I think it’s a good gamble.

Yep and I would think Smith signed off on it so for me he obviously thinks the guy has something left in the tank.

Our OC Smith had eyes on him all last season, so it’s a Smith influenced hire. Another advantage of experience by the OC being able to look at other players they have actually coached.

I guess I’d be more optimistic about Patterson if Robinson and Peterson had been more significant players last year.
