Steelers vs falcons Initial Thoughts

DK is a problem with the ball in his hands. He's a specimen unquestionably. He ripped off a big run for TD last year. But he's actually kinda stiff to make a wow catch and he gives you as many wtf was that as what a great play.

Dude needs to spend less time in the weight room and become best friends with the jugs machine…and stop being a dumazz, but start with the former as I can’t really hold my breath on the latter happening.

More work on the JUGGs would give him less time to be a dumbazzzzzz.!!!

AND

Yes the Juggs would help a lot.

Salute the nation

QB
A-a-Ron played solid. Couple really nice throws. Kept the ball safe. Had a few drops.

RB
Didn’t have a lot to work with. Fumble was god awful.

WR
Wtf DK

Pittman looked good. Wilson I think might be a reasonable slot receiver.

TE
Muth needs to be a bigger part of the offense. Same with Washington.

OL
I would put Troy at RG, leave Cook at LT and roll with Max at RT.

DL
Heyward and Black looked good. I might give Gabe a hat next week.

ILB
Cole looks fast out there. Queen is overpaid.

Edge
Watt has his best game in two years. Herbig was a non factor. Highsmith looked solid.

CB
Joey who?

S
Brisker had a gimme but he hauled it in and had a couple nice tackles.

Bos is still Bos.
Cook at LT is scary.
Go back and watch the herbig plays. Think he got 3 penalties called against his guy to stop him from making plays

Thank God football is really back

first half was sloppy as hell

OL did ok in pass protection but were not opening any running lanes

defense was better than I thought, other than the ****** coverage on the TD pass,

I would have sworn the DL was subpar but the falcons only had 24 yards rushing at the half...

Heyward knocking down passes and Highsmith and Watt both with sacks. Brisker with the gift int, but at least he caught it....

DK just shoving DBs out of the way, not sure why he thinks that is legal, Wilson was finally a weapon but really should have caught that ball in the endzone

2nd half was just as sloppy...will DK actually catch a pass? will the refs call a PI for him???? inquiring minds want to know

offense is out of sync, drops (mainly DK) no run blocking some questionable play calls...gotta get it together

way too many rushing yards for atlanta in the second half. bad tackling - Herbig hit the RB hard in the backfield but failed to finish and off he went....gotta do better

Watt with a huge 2nd half...another sack a big TFL and a pick 6....one man wrecking crew for a little while today

Highsmith with a good game, Heyard with the hat trick of patting down passes

58 rushing yards is not going to be good enough, the OL needs to get it together and open some holes. not a great passing day but DK's drops really hurt that part of the offense. it was good to see wilson make a few plays and pittman as well. Freiermuth had a good day with 5 catches and a TD and Washington with 2 big catches late

Special teams needs to be better - gave up too many yards on returns and really did not do a lot when receiving the ball.

good thing they were playing cooper rush led falcons

over all sloppy as hell, but a win is a win..
Gotta tip my hat to Cam, guy was on fire yesterday
TJ ain't done yet, looked like the old TJ
Trading Highsmith would be a mistake
Secondary looked good
Herbig is too small, still a liability in the run game, got Urlacher'd.
DK will never be great, but he won't be that bad every week, The 1 was obvious PI, he was a few drops away from a great game. See it as a positive
Wilson flashed some good and bad, gotta catch the one in the endzone. Upward trajectory, should give him some confidence.
Pittman came up with 2 big catches.
Pat had a great game
Jaylen Warren's 1 run was highlight reel worthy, Guy runs hard, fumbles happen but overall nice game.
Dowdle, just ugly, guy should be on the bench.

Overall I am happy, I can see the offense improving alot once they get some reps although the 0-line is worrysome.

My expectations are tempered as always by the reality of there still not being a franchise QB in the house and the likelihood this defense is not going to be a top 5 defense.

Rodgers continues to make too many head scratching decisions for my liking for someone who has 23 years experience in the league. The throw down the right sideline to Metcalf on 4th and 3 was forced and lacked foresight in regards of who he was throwing it to and his ability to make catches in that part of the field. You cant make a #2 into a #1 no matter how much you try. Its time for Rodgers to accept Metcalf for what he truly is.

The defense was solid for the most part but it was against a offense led by a compromised 3rd string QB. Aside from the Browns and Titans Im assuming thats the easiest its going to get.

Wonder if it was just that particular officiating crew that the Steelers didn't receive the benefit of multiple PI's Atlanta committed?

I watched a couple of other games, AZ-LA and Dallas-NY, and those crews didn't hesitate to throw PI flags, in some cases questionable ones.

Rodgers played well, If he had a #1 this offense would look much different. That performance was 100% on DK, if thats Jefferson or Puca or a dozen other guys they likely have 150+ with multiple TD's. He needs to get Pittman more involved. We are still a #1 WR short of a good WR room.

So the Steelers needed those two falcon missed field goals to win this game. They make those two, completely different game and maybe a different outcome.
Hard to say that while glossing over what the Steelers missed on (the Wilson dropped td, DK losing focus on a huge gain/possible td, the horrible missed DPI that probably goes for a td, Boz missed FG, the miss FG on the botched snap/fake/whatever the **** that was). We were a couple missed plays/calls from blowing this thing open. Steelers offense probably left 17-20 points on the field.

With such a short preseason where a number of our starters didn't take a snap I was pleased that we looked as sharp as we did.

I was not a fan of signing Aaron Rogers BUT I give credit where it is due. Aaron Rogers will analyze every play for the offense and make suggestions on improving play.

We will need it because we have to travel to Foxborough to play a Patriots team that is mad about that loss in Seattle and has had ten days to get ready for us.

We better be ready.

Might have caught a break with AJ Brown being out. That's the only thing I can think of the Steelers might have going for them in this matchup other than the possibility Drake Maye might be on the verge of a Paul Skenes like setback season.

Worst part was when he threw that pass to Metcalf there was a guy wide open underneath for an easy first down.

Well, they beat a team that was on their third string quarterback and down two starting OLBs. The margin of victory was seven points. So yeah, hope it gets better. There wasn't much there that was convincing. Even down AJ Brown, you're going to get a better idea this week. If they're going to rely on Mac Hollins, be ready for in-breaking stuff on crucial downs.

A beautiful day here in Cleveland.
Browns lose, OSU loses, and the Cuyahoga River is overflowing with tears.

Have they recently set it on fire again?

I would have liked to see Pickens with Rodgers throwing to him.....but it was not meant to be. Instead we were given DK.

Rodgers could throw a back shoulder concept with the best of the best of them. He did that well for a lot of his career. It would've been interesting, a go ball on the sideline with the option to throw it back shoulder at certain yardages. It's kind of a choice route where the pre snap stuff and cushion determine when the ball goes. Most of the work on that one is done by Rodgers. He just would've needed George on the same page. I think he could've gotten that one right, his contested stuff is excellent.

I just don't care. They won. And it was a fairly relaxing game. No end of game worries

That’s a really cool way of looking at it…

I couldn’t believe the running game actually came alive on the last drive or two after doing absolutely nothing for 3 plus quarters.

Remember, this Oline has been 80% shaken up. The Tackles are flipped from the last playoff game, as is the LG and the RG is the former backup.. the only one in the same spot is the C.. on top of that they changed scheme and some technique...

Its likely the line play at the start of the year isnt the same stuff we see by mid or end of the season

For some reason I just did not feel at any time they were in jeopardy of losing the game.
Unlike last few years we could be up by 3 scores in the 3rd(really blitz) and. Still be nervous they would lose.

Just get Washington more targets please. I just want to see him pound defenders into oblivion more often!
This angle shows how brutal that stiff arm was. Dude left a depression in the field I bet.
