Suggs gets fined

I read Ed Bouchette's chat in the unnamed paper this morning. Someone asked if Suggs would get as fine for the hit. Ed's response was, "Not sure what for. I'm still trying to figure out what he did wrong." Really Ed?

**** Ed he is a worn out writer now

Maybe Ed should go write for Baltiwhore........ Suggs took a moment, studied the situation, then made his hit. He knew Blunt was going no where, then proceeded to pound into the wall, with blunt in between him and said wall. Suggs kinda reminded me of that Warren Sappass play, where he took out the Special Teams player with a blind side. Helpless player in both plays. I didn't read the article, but will now, what was the fine amount??

Well going around sporting that ugly mug with a mouth, that if it ever closed, would probably cause him to turn a dark purple and die. Hows that for starters? He should get fined for being so freakishly hideous.

I have stopped reading the crap Ed puts out and anything on the web site of the paper that shall not be named that is not accessed by the steelers .com web page. I am just tired of their registration stuff, the fact they routinely show up on this site and take ideas from posters and pass them off as their own. Also the pissy nature of that paper that wanted no links or quotes on here also irritated me a great deal.

Enough of my rant I go see if the Tribune has any news on the fine amount or if Upshaw got something in the mail for the cheap shot on Ben.

It was dirty, but where in the rules is it illegal?

I thought they called unnecessary roughness on the play or unsportsmanlike conduct. If a flag was thrown something was illegal, am I remembering it wrong?

Blount was a defenseless player at the time. Going to the knee's like that with the rest of the Ravens pushing him back the opposite direction puts him at risk. That is what makes it illegal.

watching it live I thought it was dirty. watching it in slow motion afterwords, looks to me like he hit blounts hip not knee. blount wasn't defenseless. he was still up and trying to move. I have no problem with the hit and don't think he should be fined.

that being said suggs acted like a complete idiot afterwords. someone should have just pointed at the scoreboard

He was being pushed backwards by 3 ravens players. The hit was un-necessary, and flagged as such, hence the term "un-necessary roughness".

I agree, Upshaw's hit was worse. He needs to be fined more than Suggs. He knew what his hit in the first game did to Ben and was clearly trying to take him out.

Yep. Suggs' hit was properly flagged and the fine was expected but had there not been one, I wouldn't have had a huge issue. Upshaw's is a completely different thing. That was a clearly intentional helmet to helmet on a QB. You can't even allow your hand to glance off a QB's helmet. Had that been bwady Upshaw'd have already been drawn and quartered.

Was more than helmet to helmet it was a fore arm after the ball was gone under the chin of Ben. You can see Ben standing there and then the away shoulder and arm move on upshaw and Ben is staggered, then another raven gives him a shove as well while he is on the way to the ground.

Lets see if that copies. Well at least it links to the video if somebody is more computer savy than me go ahead and post it. But it shows some real good footage of the hit on Ben by Upshaw.

Now this should give us either the video or a link to it so it can be viewed and talked about. This is clearly an attempt to fold a players legs in a manner that will cause injury bending them from the side.

Wow....that's just absolute BS right there. Has to draw a fine.

It was a dirty friggen shot, whether he got all of his legs or not is irrelevant, we all know what his intent was there and he should have been tossed from the game.

You'll note he launched himself at Ben as well.

What I find funny is Harbaugh's reaction to the multiple penalty play - as if he believed the hit on Ben, and the horsecollar on Antonio were perfectly fine plays. Had the shoe been on the other foot he would have been livid.

It makes it dangerous but Bouchette and I am unaware of a rule for it. Helmet to helmet, horse collar, defenseless receiver used to be legal until they addressed them. I don't know if it falls under the refs discretion to be considered unnecessary roughness.

There was a flag and a fine so it falls under something.

So did Harrison's hit on the Browns receiver several years back, but I don't know what it is?

From the bottom of the "unnecessary roughness" rules-

Note: If in doubt about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactics, the covering official(s) should always call unnecessary roughness.

I would think the "potentially dangerous tactics" would be the intentional blow to the knee of an engaged RB.
