Talk about LeVeon Bell in one place

Incorrect. He does not get paid for each week he holds out and the $850k he's not being paid each week comes off the Steelers' salary cap hit for next year. If he shows up after week 10 then he would get paid for the remaining 6 games.

thanks, there's so many reports out there, I can't keep track what he gets paid and when he shows up.

I have a son who goes to work everyday is loyal as a employee. Before you jump no he does not have a skill as a running back. Bell turned down eight hundred and some thousand for one week, consisting of sitting in a meeting, free lunch, walk through free lunch , travel day , free whatever, play a what four hour game which he is involved what twenty plays. It would take my son 28 years to make what he tuned down in one week. Talk about the arrogance to turn this money down in unbelievable.

Really? This is your comparison? **** Bell, but in the end this is the agreement the owners and players agreed on in the CBA. This is Bell's play. I don't like it or agree with it and honestly wished we would have moved on from him after last season, but to compare your son to Bell's situation is a bit off base. While the Steelers used the franchise tag on Bell(Bell was against being tagged)...Bell is able to hold out 10 games and get his accured time in for the season(the Steelers are against this). It is an area that the owners and players can/should/will fix in the next CBA. And again....**** Bell and his me first attitude he has had since he came here.

Don't really care. He will put himself in a bad position.when or if he joins the team because you can't really be in the best football shape if your not practicing with your team. One last thing, his agent is a moron! Probably a childhood friend. Mote to every team who might be interested in him next year just remember at the end of his contract don't expect him to be around.

I don't think he was comparing the two of them, he was just making a point about what an enormous ******* bell was for turning down more money for one week than most would make in twenty years or more and I agree with him. Bell can not make on a dime more than his tag so whats the purpose of holing out? So he doesn't have to work so hard? Isn't that exactly what his "read between the lines" agent said? Either way you cut it, to me Bell just told the entire NFL what a worthless piece of **** he is going to be in the future, any team that signs him would run his wheels off. **** THAT NON RAPPING PIECE OF ****.

My thoughts? Screw him. Get the best value you can via trade or compensatory draft pick

Ignoring the Bell aspect to this article, because I'm sick of hearing about him (he's not a Steeler, therefore he's irrelevant). Can we just talk about how much of a douche Mike Florio is, and why he still has a job? Dumbest idea ever, spoken with so much condescension for the Steelers organization.

Stupid to even bring up this other option. If Le’Veon won’t agree to a 5 year deal with a lot of cash attached, and doesn’t want be to franchise tagged, why would he agree to a “bigger” one year deal? So stupid

One thing about it, if and when he does decide to come back I bet he will get anything but a hero's welcome.I would pay a scalpers price for tickets just to be there to boo his ***.

I hope Conner goes for a buck fifty today and 3 TD's.

Because apparently Florio wants to take shots at the Steelers while simultaneously making his holdout seem like our fault. Like I said, what a douche

He always tries to get the Steelers goat, been doing it for a long time.

I agree with this, while none of us will ever sniff the type of money paid to professional athletes, I'd wager no member of Bell's family ever has either.

My only conclusion is that it's pure greed and an over inflated opinion of himself.

And I may be wrong, but I would wager that when this is all over and his career is done, he would have banked more money, with a ring on his hand, had he just signed the contract in 2017.

Go Connor.......Go Stillers!

Someone help me understand the ins-and-outs of the contract the team offered him in July.

We know the top line 5 yrs/$70M

I’ve also seen $10M signing bonus, $33M guaranteed after year 2, and $45M after year 3.

But can someone explain the rolling structure? Does that mean there’s a hypothetical in which Le’Veon gets cut 1 year into the deal and all he got was $10M? I’ve been under the impression $33M was the total guarantee but I’ve now got people trying to convince me that $10M was the only true guarantee. And while that would be shady, I also can’t imagine a world in which the Steelers cut him after year 1 but hey what do I know? Can someone break this down for me?

Steelers don't front load a shitload of guaranteed. Nothing shady about their approach. It is they pay you well but you are going to earn it.

Slash nailed it. Steelers have been successful in the CBA area because of how they structure their contracts. There isn’t much guaranteed money, because the salary cap isn’t infinite. What FO does is give a healthy signing bonus on the deal, and if the player produces, restructures their contract during its length in the off season to allow them to maneuver under the cap. This is why we saw, Ben (multiple times), Pouncey, DeCastro, Cam this year, Tuitt (next year) and Antonio have their contracts restructured so as push more money as a bonus and spread it on the remaining years with the base salary being low and thereby keeping the team below the cap at the numbers they like. Colbert prefers 3-4 million below the cap to have room for emergencies.

Teams that throw out these huge guarantees will reap the dead cap space if the player is hurt, or just underperforms the contract. Personally, guaranteed contracts cannot work with the current CBA. It puts an emphasis on QBs being 18-20% of you cap spending. That’s forces teams to stay young at the 48-52 spots, and who is hurt.....yep veterans. Which was the whole point of the rookie draft scale. The NFLPA sorely misses Upshaw. The current leadership under Smith has no clue as to how to profit the players to benefit rookies mid tier players and established role veterans. It’s the have and have nots. Which was a anathema to Upshaw. The union reps all. Not the established elite.

It almost always works out for the Steelers top players, even without the high guaranteed payout. The only names that were released early that I can think of were Woodley and Allen, and both players were terrible at the time of their release.

These players like MJD and Irvin saying that the Pitt O line crossed a loyalty line by talking against a player in a contract situation is really telling. They clearly see it from a players-owners us-them. First thing is that I think if Bell had called and told them what he was going to do, but to keep it quiet, that would be one thing. They could prepare appropriately. The other thing is the Steeler players are looking at it from the perspective of a team (players, coaches, and owners) trying to get a SB. They are not in an us vs. them mode at all. Disappointing to hear commentators from previous eras talking in those terms.

It depends. How many people pay money to see your son at work?

Great point. I had completely forgotten about the way the team often utilizes restructures. If you're on a big deal with the Steelers, you're going to get paid unless you suddenly turn terrible after signing the deal

To put it in perspective CD, view his comments this way; MJD has the same agent as Bell........even though he is retired. So anything he said is biased.
