The Coronavirus thread

For those that I am annoying the **** out of, I see both sides of this. I just don't have the luxury of not taking it seriously and looking at the numbers.

My daughter is at the hospital right now with 6 positive patients under her care and she has not been given an n95 mask to use because they are out(thanks obama) and is having to use a surgical mask instead. With her underlying health conditions I can't help but look at this through different eyes. She has to work 7pm-7am the next three nights. So while I agree with much of what you guys believe, I am still in favor of anything that helps keep her even a little safer and feel will still come through this ok as I don't think it will last much longer. As a parent would you not feel the same way?

Just fyi you are not annoying me at all. I completely understand your concerns.

Unfortunately a lot of the panic that has been created is probably impacting her negatively in numerous ways.

But I hope she gets the supplies she needs and comes out of this healthy.

A long long time ago I never heard of OSHA. At work one day I climbed on top of a counter to reach for something instead of using a ladder and someone said .."OSHA wouldn't like to see that".

I replied "Osha?, is she the new girl"?

Sounds like a Russian or Ukrainian female name.

Hey SIL. If she is really in need send me a PM. I may be able to snag a couple for her. Not promising anything but I’ll try. My wife works in one of my homes.

My son's at it to. He's at the epicenter...he works at Stonybrook Hospital on Long Island NY. He works in the ICU, says he has never seen so much dying.

Unfortunately that has not been my experience with osha. Osha is nothing g more than a revenue generating beach of the govt. while their intentions are pure, the applications (in my field) are not. We are hit with technical violations for 10s of thousands with no impact of prevail a of injury /illness.

We have taken them to the review commission several times and won. But to what extent. Spending tens of thousands vs a coupl3. Greater good for a national company bc of repeats and willful violations.

Sorry I just have no love lost for them. Once I was cited for over 10gs for a blocked electrical panel. Yes legit, but ten ******* grand for something that has not would not cause injury. I proposed spending that same amount of lifts. Something that would impact losses. They said no. Right their I knew.

Yup, OSHA can **** right off. Don’t even get me started. Those mfers.

Well, if either my date or I had the China flu, we’ve both got it now, lol. But the death rate in Indiana is only 0.04%. And that’s counting the crackheads who got shot by cops but were chalked up to Covid. The risk was totally worth it.

And Charlie, I cheated on Rosey tonight. She’ll get over it. I’m sure of it. Hopefully not for a long time though.

And about the carry out margaritas, I was not expecting this. When I called in the order I wanted two jumbo margaritas which are 32 ounces. She said they only had 40 oz to go, and I said even better. When I got to this woman’s house and opened the bags, there were four 20 oz. cups of mix, and two pint bottles of tequila. Apparently they can’t sell a premade mixed drink to go. But a half pint per drink is kind of a lot. In my heavy drinking days (4 months ago) that would be child’s play, a before going out drink. Now though, whoa. I have a new favorite Mexican restaurant. And the food was damn good too.

Do you think she'd be interested in moving to another profession once this is over, because infectious diseases are nothing new and this certainly won't be the last, especially after we set a precedent with this one. I'm not trying to be mean or a smart-*** but I've seen where this has given you many restless days and nights and rightfully so, she's your daughter and I understand that. I really hope she moves into chartered accountancy for your sake, but like most health professionals, my Dad included, he got into medicine to help people. If not for the like of him, there would have literally been thousands more stricken down by Polio. Docs and nurses back then didn't have all the protection they have now, but they carried on with what they had. Thank God for the health professionals bravery in the face of crisis and deadly adversity. That goes for their parents too. Hope you get through this.

You could be describing any federal agency.

This is not true in NYC but for the vast majority of America, it is. Time to get the country back to work.

Long term she wants to be a CDE diabetic educator and work with educating newly diagnosed children and adults. The entry step to that position was not open and only part time to start. She basically just needs to accrue enough time doing education to earn the cert. since she is a type 1 she already has the experience but not the hours that count. She was more concerned starting out with paying off her loans and she makes decent money as a recent college grad on what is not normally a med surg floor, particularly with her shift differential.

California COVID cases not as high as projected.

At a press briefing, Newsom and Dr. Mark Ghaly, the Secretary of the California Health and Human Services, said without those interventions, projections were for hospitalizations to soar above 700,000, the Mercury News reported.

“People are moving around less and staying at home more compared to this time in February,” Ghaly said. “The comparison is really when we didn’t have things like the stay at home orders, when we didn’t emphasize physical distancing.”

Following a statewide shelter-in-place order issued by Newsom on March 19, California began to prepare for a surge that would allow hospitals to care for 50,000 COVID-19 patients at once.

Ghaly said the number of hospitalizations are “holding onto the bottom part of the model,” the news outlet reported.

“This is actually signaling to us that our peak may not end up being as high as we planned around and expected,” Ghaly said.

I didnt see this story here but it is quite relevant.

A Democratic Michigan state lawmaker*has*credited President Trump's*publicizing*of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine with saving her life after*her health "plummeted" when she*contracted*coronavirus.

State Rep. Karen Whitsett of Detroit told "The Ingraham Angle" on Monday that if it wasn't for Trump pushing the drug through the Food and Drug Administration's approval process for off-label use and touting it repeatedly during his daily press briefings, she may not have made it through the terrible contagion.

"I really want to say that*you*have to give this an*opportunity," she said. "For me, it saved my life.*I only can go by what it is that*I have gone through and what my*story is, and I can't speak for*anyone else.*So that's not what I'm trying to*do here.*I'm only speaking for myself."

Rarely a fan of Bill Maher, but this is a time when I am. He is 100% spot, dead on...and it's sort of funny.

It IS the Kung Flu, it is the Wuhan virus, just like Lyme disease was named after Lyme, CT, where it was discovered....or the West Nile Virus. MERS begins with Middle Eastern...

Bravo Bill.

This whole thing should have you conservatives and liberals up in arms right now... at this point the worldwide morbidity rates aren’t even slightly affected... none of this matches the criteria for this type of lockdown... moreover, martial law, which hasn’t been declared anywhere in the us yet (and hasn’t been used since 1966), doesn’t allow suspension of inalienable constitutional rights.

This is becoming a huge overreach of powers... it’s dangerous to both poltical sides and will cause extremely problematic precedent going forward

Bill is kind of a conundrum. He can be so seemingly sane and then go batshit on something.

Good article about counting COVID19 deaths, and how nearly every death in America is now being classified as a result of Covid19. The question that has to be asked is why? Your government is not looking out for your best interests, not that they ever did.

But hey load up the trains. The health camps are waiting.

That is not quite what they are doing, at least not in Ohio. To be classified as a Covid patient first you have to either be positive or have ruled out any other likely cause of illness like the flu through testing. That criteria probably lowers the overall count of deaths that are attributable to this virus if strictly adhered to which Ohio is. Second more on point even if someone is in the Hospital and could die in the future but they die sooner because of Covid 19 to that death is attributable to the disease as it hastened their death. I think many are really over exagerating this effect on the numbers. Ohio's death count overall only changed by 17 when they went to the new rules and the total case count by 47. I think if you dig into the numbers you will find this is a totally overblown point and the real deaths by this is actually higher than the numbers being reported. Not saying that is reason to panic.

Bogus apocalyptic models, doctored (no pun intended) data - are we talking about some respiratory virus or global warming?

As somebody as widely accessible as Bill Maher is, I'd think that video would have 12 million views, Not 12k (at the time of you posting it). But it isn't the right message of course.
