The Coronavirus thread

I had to get a haircut in the back room of an empty storefront today.

Pure. Unadulterated. Nonsense.

I got a good lecturing on what lines on the floor to follow inside of a store today, like doing that is going to somehow keep me and others safe from whatever it is they think they're keeping us safe from.

Follow the maze correctly and you will magically be okay! It's out of control. I have a friend whose daughter worked (keyword work(ed) for Costco and she said that a lot of the same people were coming into the store two and three times a day, I guess just to get away from home or mooch off of the sample carts or just buy **** they don't need. I don't know, but she said that people just started fighting in the store at least once a day and she just couldn't handle it anymore. She's a 19-year-old college student and a really bright girl but was just fed up with the insanity so she got a leave of absence note from her doctor (last her dad and I talked), and hopefully she's outta there for good at this point.

A lot of people really can't think for themselves, or they just refuse to, and have absolutely zero mindfulness of others. It boggles the mind. Mind you, I do live in Southern California. There are some real braindead morons and ******** here.

New York Times Discovers New York is Responsible for Wave of Coronavirus Outbreaks Nationwide

Report: NYC Responsible for Most New Coronavirus Cases Nationwide

On a global scale the Coronavirus is really the “China coronavirus” – but within America’s borders, it’s the “New York Coronavirus.”

While liberals are busy shaming population-light Red States hardly impacted by the coronavirus for reopening “too quickly,” most (but not all) were happy to ignore how New York spawned the problem in the first place.

New York is the epicenter of the pandemic within America, at one point being home to nearly half of the nation’s cases. Cases are finally declining now, and it does look like they’re growing in the rest of the country, but that’s just due to increased testing. Daily positive coronavirus cases as a percentage of all tests are on the decline nationwide.

While Andrew Cuomo is at the helm statewide, the mayor of the city housing the majority of the state’s population delayed calls to begin shutting down his city for as long as possible.

NYC’s Mayor Bill de Blasio was eventually shamed into shutting down his city’s schools (among other measures) – but not before one final visit to the gym. Less than two weeks prior de Blasio defended not shutting down the city, which he saw as a move that would be caving to “undue fear.”

For a virus that spreads at an exponential rate, every day counts, and that has visibly been the case in NYC. According to a former CDC director, New York’s death toll would be up to 80% lower (or as “little” as 50% lower) had social distancing measures been enacted just two weeks prior (statewide – but especially in NYC).

And from there, the virus was exported to the rest of the country. Seldom did I ever think I’d find myself quoting the New York Times on this issue, but even their analysis concluded as much.

To quote from their report:

New York City’s coronavirus outbreak grew so large by early March that the city became the primary source of new infections in the United States, new research reveals, as thousands of infected people traveled from the city and seeded outbreaks around the country.

The research indicates that a wave of infections swept from New York City through much of the country before the city began setting social distancing limits to stop the growth. That helped to fuel outbreaks in Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and as far away as the West Coast.

“We now have enough data to feel pretty confident that New York was the primary gateway for the rest of the country,” said Nathan Grubaugh, an epidemiologist at the Yale School of Public Health.

In total, travel out of New York caused about 65% of new coronavirus cases in the U.S.

Or in other words, the entire nation is shut down because one city wouldn’t quickly enough.

No no we are not open. When I’m no longer get told by so **** how far to stand, what the **** to wear, where I can and can not go, we are not ******* open.

When I can visit my 92 yo mother in a nursing home, we will be open. I fear that this day will come too late.
Happy Mothers Day.

So sorry hamster. While our parents are all deceased I have several close friends in your situation and it truly breaks my heart.

So it may prolong their lives, but at what cost? No good answers.

I don't know if I am buying this. I think the Covid hit the West Coast before NYC. Having said that,NYC , and it's dumbass Dem leaders made this A LOT worse.

I think so too, and I think it started back around December-January. Reason I say that is because a lot of people were getting a nasty flu, and doctors were basically saying it was the nastier influenza b-strain. I got it myself and I was in bed for 4 days with a really high fever. I remember making a post on it actually. Got over it quick though.

Anyways, it's not fun but it's basically a severe case of the flu from everything we all seem to be gathering. Nothing to lock down the damn country over though. Sorry about your mom amigo, I can't imagine.

I caught a bug back in Jan/Feb.I always get a flu shot and never get sick. A woman in my office had the same symptoms, and had a husband who was down for a week with classic Covid symptoms. This affects people in different ways, so I can't be sure. I will have an antibody test on Wednesday.

News at 11.

Our central supply lady had bad "pneumonia" back in Jan. She had a lot of Covid symptoms and is wondering if she had it

That's when I got it too. Seems true about different symptoms for different people, as I don't remember coughing too much but had a real high fever and lots of body aches. No real respiratory distress.

I wouldn't doubt it one bit given all the **** that's now coming out from China.

I mentioned before a family of three I'm related to who work in Manhattan all had fevers for days and coughs in December. All tested positive for antibodies. I don't know about the West coast but this was in New York as early as November. No doubt in my mind.

What is the difference between having done nothing and opening up and developing herd immunity? What is “opening up”? Are we not opening up already?

My community is not opening up until June 4. Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart and the big grocery chains are doing great. Many of the local businesses will probably never reopen.

Don't forget the liquor stores and weed dispensaries, those are apparently essential businesses.

I am watching the local news this morning. We have cities pouring sand into playgrounds to prevent kids from playing there.
We have officially lost our minds.

We are moving from absurd....to bizarre....

For some reason...I get the feeling there is more than just a virus going on here...

There ought to be an amendment banning state government from collection of taxes while using an emergency order to restrict freedoms... state governments can never legally displace constitutional rights, but they can revoke a lot of privileges... but when they do so they should not get paid... that would encourage them to only use those actions in dire situations

If the state is going to promise people unemployment that they can't get and business loans that they never see, then I think the governor needs to go full Commie and order banks and savings loans that they cannot collect mortgage, car loan, and credit card payments, landlords that they cannot collect commercial or residential rent, and utility companies that they cannot collect payments.

This virus isn't and never was going to kill millions. You've been edumacated on this till you've been bloodied.

Like when you pointed out that the experts were wrong about 100-200k deaths with mitigation? You still right about that, Tim? Your President says it will go away without a virus, is he right about that? More edumacation please!

That’s not happening here in Wichita, but the city parks are open with the dog parks, playgrounds, and swimming pools closed. That will be in place until June. Then the governor will issue another gradual opening order. The kids won’t have any place to swim or anything like that this summer, I bet. It’s nuts.

Or in other words, the entire nation is shut down because one city wouldn’t quickly enough.

So it isn’t that dangerous and the response was an overblown overreaction... unless you’re talking about New York City or China?

Flood of COVID-19 Patients Could Swamp Hospitals

Brenda Goodman, MA

March 04, 2020

To understand the surge of patients that would hit US hospitals if COVID-19 begins to spread more widely here, consider these numbers: 38 million people could need medical care; 1 million to 10 million people might need to be hospitalized; and between 200,000 and 2.9 million people might need to stay in an intensive care unit, depending on how bad the epidemic gets.

So am I to believe we now have only 420, 000 hospitalizations?

I had some bizarre bug hit me during that same timeframe. I did not have a high fever, maybe 100 at the most and not that bad a cough but man it zapped all of my energy for 5-6 days. I still wonder if that's what it was or maybe a mutation. It would be interesting to get the test to see.
