The Coronavirus thread

I would give Spike a bit of a break. While he did freak out (and it was hard to even read his posts), he's an older gentleman who has had healthcare experience so I'm sure he had a more than rudimentary knowledge of infectious diseases and what they can potentially do, so, for lack of a better term, he probably got scared shitless.

When you factor in the Chinese's response to shutting down all of their domestic travel, to quarantining millions of their own people to the degree they did, to scientists and clinicians disappearing or dying -- I'd say that's pretty big cause for concern. Then you have Italy and Iran and what happened there.

I think it's easy to say in hindsight that we overreacted or did this or did that, but the simple truth is, is that nobody really knew what we were dealing with, especially when China wouldn't even let us or the WHO in until late February (I believe) to analyze anything.

Then you had all the users posting videos of people convulsing and patient upon patient looking like they were dying in hospital lobbies and emergency rooms like something out of a dystopian, apocalyptic movie. Jesus, this shook the world. Now that we have much more data, yes, it's time to open up and stop the fear-mongering. I know there are a lot of us who have been saying that for quite some time now. I know there were some scientists etc. who expressed their doubts and cynicism from the beginning (Vader comes to mind) here and many other places. The damage is done. Now all we can do is figure out how to get back to normal as much as possible, as soon as possible.

I'm much more irritated with Cope, who cited that he was not only a Scientist, but that he had relatives working at the NIH who were going on about reinfection rates and how long this virus could live on surfaces etc. and never answered any questions beyond that or never made any retractions or offered any apologies for his own fear-mongering. And I really like Cope. Oh well, it is what it is.
Baawwwwkkkkk!!!!

If you were wrong, really wrong like Chicken Little Spike was, you ought to show up, say sorry and then move past this.

Everyone makes mistakes, even old medical expert feebs like CL Spike and Fauci. But even paid for Fauci is singing a different tune lately. CL Spike, this thread's Fearmonger in Chief, remains silent.

So is the CDC right or wrong or do we only believe it when it fits certain narratives. Someone tell me what im supposed to believe im confused

It's difficult to believe anyone when the narrative changes on a weekly basis. Which version to believe?

I understand this pandemic is fluid in nature, but the actions of the CDC show they really don't have a clue.

And reacquiring Covid is nothing more than a scare tactic, unless this is the first virus in history that doesn't produce antibodies.

I have no issue with those that wish to remain quarantined, for myself, I'll live my life, and this is from someone that's closer to the vulnerable age than most here.

Look at their track record from February until now. Not very consistent/reliable.

And don't ask anyone to tell you what to believe; use your experience, the data at your disposal, the other healthcare professionals in the country discussing their own data and what they're coming up with (which seems to get silenced, strangely) and every single other thing you can to help you form an intelligent opinion. I know you were being a smart-***, get over that **** & start actually talking here.

The supposed experts seem quite wrong now, do they not? Simple yes or no question.

I got a 20% rebate on my auto insurance. Anybody else? I pay 6 months at a time. They gave me 20% rebate of 1/6 th of that or 1 month's worth so it was less than $20. I'm guessing i will get another check or 2 before it's over.

Smart on the part of the insurance companies. Give the rebates before they get sued in a class action. Auto rates are built on actuarial tables and miles driven is a huge part of that. With people on lockdown, they can't justify charging the same rates.

I think Spike was just ******* with everybody and he had fun doing it. Tibs, on the other hand, is an actual retard who believes all that bullshit.

What are they getting sued in a class action for? I was an underwriter for a large carrier for 6 years -- what would they be getting sued for?

Spike was spooked, there's no doubt about it. But we welcome him back with open arms, while Tibs can go **** himself.

if he was just ******* with people that makes it worse.

As i said, the rates are partly based on mileage and most6 are legally required to carry insurance. Millions of people who are essentially forbidden by law from driving eventually would have sued to demand refunds. Everybody already hates insurance companies. If they don't do refunds, it would only be a matter of time before a lawsuit or worse yet, somebody tacks on a law that auto insurance companies MUST fully refund people for the lockdown months.

The very fact they are giving these refunds tells me they are getting out in front of a potentially bigger payout.

Tibs can go **** himself.

Just another average, ho-hum day here at SN, the most American, most patriotic, most pro-Trump corner of the internet. What an awesome collection of outstanding individuals. Posters like you reflect well on this site and on the Trump base in general. Keep up the great job!

Ace Speedway in NC opening night on Saturday. Packed. Social distancing, yeah, not so much. Not many masks either. People are starting to call bullshit en masse.

Hey North Carolina,
Stop electing Democrats!

You come here to post that drivel? And not offer up any form of defense to your ridiculous claim that the lowering death rate is due to the lockdowns?

Not at all curious you sped right by that. Not at all.

Looks like you're perfectly fine with a long-time, contributing member being called retarded and told to **** off. Must be the new normal in the Trump era.

Mitigation during a pandemic is critical in keeping cases down, limiting the spread, and consequently lowering the death toll. Not too hard to figure that out. No need for any fancy charts for that.

But the media says he's doing a great job.

well, if they're doing testing and reporting of Rona deaths in Place A and you move all people suffering to where they're not testing, the testing can show few(er) victims. Thus you're doing an excellent job. Most excellent.

As much as I hate the phrase Social Distancing, I do enjoy it while standing in checkout lines. Yesterday a guy got too close to me in line and I about went Karen on him. That has been one thing I don’t mind, actually. Keeping away from me as I shop. #hatepeople

I went to a nursery on Sunday to buy tomatoes and herbs for the garden. A Karen got all pissy with me because I accidentally cut in front of her in line. She said she was social distancing, but the ***** was like 12 feet behind the last person in line. She had a mask on too. I just laughed at her.

It’s always been a HIGE pet peeve of mine when people get too close behind you in checkouts. I can’t stand when they ran your legs with their buggy. I can’t stand when they start unloading their **** while you’re not even done unloading yours. I really hate the power sighs and comments when they get annoyed for getting behind you when they could clearly see your buggy was full of ****. Yeah, I’m ok with social distancing in checkouts.

I have a theory that I could be off base on but I want to test it out. Now keep it in mind that I am not painting anyone in a positive or negative light, just more of an observation. This was more based on your previous post with the #ihatepeople hashtag.

Do you have and like cats as opposed to dogs? Based on my experience and from observing my friends over the years, I have a theory that people who are strictly cat people generally don't like other people and don't have much use for them (this describes my best friend since high school to a T. He likes about 4 people and thinks everyone else should go **** themselves). Cat people usually seem more on the anti social side, at least to strangers. Dog people seem to be more social to strangers and cat people are less so. I am guessing it's because cats are aloof and kind of antisocial themselves and dogs are typically opposite.

Now that being said, people who like both dogs and cats don't really seem to fall into either category. I have always found the whole thing very interesting....probably because I am so into Psychology. I'm sure it's not true in a lot of cases.....but it seems pretty damn common with people I know. Feel free to tell me I am full of ****.

I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a pirahna. I don’t mind being around people, but it’s the stupid people and the ******** I can’t deal with. Maybe as I have gotten older, I have had less patience for stupid **** than I used to. However, I do work with SpEd kids who have NO CONCEPT of personal space and/or filters...but that doesn’t bug me at all.

As a kid, I only had cats- we had a dog for about 2 months and that didn’t work out. It wasn’t until I got married back in 87 that I started warming up to dogs. I love the personalities of both dogs and cats. Dogs are lovable and can sense your emotions. Cats just hate everything and are ********. Both of those fit my personality.

I'm perfectly fine with members addressing you as you have them. When you walk a high road, I'll condemn the others.

And nice way of saying "I have no scientific or logical response to Tim's epic post so I'll just tow the unprovable talking points that mitigation was necessary" even though the data supports the opposite.

Ha ha you are the best of both worlds.

Not a surprising response, since you put the H in hypocrite and have for many years. At least you're consistent.

Carry on, keep convincing yourself mitigating the spread of a deadly virus during a pandemic is a bad thing.

Really done with the lectures from everyone on TV about "being responsible" and social distancing. Even Kilmeade was aghast at pictures of people at a waterpark and on the beach. He was so disappointed! How can he talk so highly of all the "responsible" people he sees every day in his travels around the country when these pictures of normal behavior make the front page!

First, they've scared the genpop into believing that getting infected with the Coronavirus is way more dangerous than it is. Now just the act of not wearing a mask triggers these idiots. You've got people pulling guns on people over this.

Then this six foot rule - it is not based on any science. Common sense allows that some distance from an infected person is safer than another. The specific effectiveness of six feet vs. three feet vs. nine feet is unknown. Completely arbitrary number that has been reinforced as if it was not arbitrary and become grave dogma. If you are only three feet away, you are a bad dangerous person. If you're nine feet away, you're being silly. Based on what??

You combine these two with a compliant media who love to preach to the genpop that not wearing a mask is akin to walking though a dynamite factory with a lit candle, and the whole thing is truly ridiculous. Way too many stupid politicians, entertainers, and media types relish the opportunity to treat the genpop like idiots.

Explain this please -
Based on recent data gathered last week by the state, the newest cases of COVID-19 are coming from people who are not working. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the infection rate among essential workers is lower than the infection rate of the general population.
