The Coronavirus thread

Hundreds of millions have received the flu vaccine and it doesn’t have 3 or 4 percent mortality rate.

Neither does this coronavirus... in areas where everyone ill is tested its well under 1%... in areas where they are only testing hospitalized and obvious exposure risks, its at 3... because like everyone in the cdc offices across the country not hoping for a real deadly outbreak so they can scream i told ya so is saying now, it's not as deadly because most cases are so mild they are totally unreported...

Again look at the actual non-sensationalIzed facts and they aren’t matching up with the actual response

Quarantines are fine, but shutting down entire countries for something everyone is saying is almost exclusively no more harmful than a flu is absurd... especially since tge people pushing this were so adamantly against quarantines of any sort During the last several pandemics

Again EBola has a 40-90% death rate depending on the location of the outbreak... there aren’t mild cases... perfectly healthy individuals drop dead in days from it and it’s fairly contagious... that wasn’t a priority for the guys yelling and screaming about this... nor was the last few novel flu... in each case some in the WHO screamed bloody murder about it but everyone was fine in ignoring it with they infected Americans at a higher rate than this is going to...

Its just a buch of panic for the sake of panic...

Italy had their first case 11 days before ours, give it 2 weeks before the first big wave hits.

With the 6 day doubling factor that's gives us around 5000 cases and go from there with more testing added

Because of faulty testing we very likely already have well over that in the us.. again test every mild flu case and not just the obvious exposures and the numbers will rise dramatically while the deaths stay static

Dude you seriously need to do some homework on how viruses work. In a month the temps on the east and west coast are going to be in the mid to upper eighties and it will die till next fall, by then we will have vaccines.

How convenient everyone ignoring Italy, lol, a modern western country of 60 million SHUTTING DOWN EVERYTHING

Coronavirus: Europeans warned to expect months of disruption

Major restrictions become more likely as deaths and infections spike across EU

Governments across Europe have warned their citizens that the coronavirus outbreak could lead to months of serious disruption, as figures for deaths and infections rose sharply again on Monday and new measures were announced restricting large gatherings.

Italy’s government has extended emergency measures across the entire country in a bid to stop the spread of the virus. The nation has the highest number of cases and deaths in Europe with 9,172 Cases and 463 Deaths

On Monday night – after the death toll rose from 366 to 463 and experts warned that the hospital system in some areas was in danger of collapse – Giuseppe Conte, the prime minister, told people to “stay at home,” as he banned all public gatherings.

GOOD READ

From a well respected friend and intensivist/A&E consultant who is currently in northern Italy:

1/ ‘I feel the pressure to give you a quick personal update about what is happening in Italy, and also give some quick direct advice about what you should do.

2/ First, Lumbardy is the most developed region in Italy and it has a extraordinary good healthcare, I have worked in Italy, UK and Aus and don’t make the mistake to think that what is happening is happening in a 3rd world country.

3/ The current situation is difficult to imagine and numbers do not explain things at all. Our hospitals are overwhelmed by Covid-19, they are running 200% capacity

4/ We’ve stopped all routine, all ORs have been converted to ITUs and they are now diverting or not treating all other emergencies like trauma or strokes. There are hundreds of pts with severe resp failure and many of them do not have access to anything above a reservoir mask.

5/ Patients above 65 or younger with comorbidities are not even assessed by ITU, I am not saying not tubed, I’m saying not assessed and no ITU staff attends when they arrest. Staff are working as much as they can but they are starting to get sick and are emotionally overwhelmed.

6/ My friends call me in tears because they see people dying in front of them and they con only offer some oxygen. Ortho and pathologists are being given a leaflet and sent to see patients on NIV. PLEASE STOP, READ THIS AGAIN AND THINK.

7/ We have seen the same pattern in different areas a week apart, and there is no reason that in a few weeks it won’t be the same everywhere, this is the pattern:

8/ 1) A few positive cases, first mild measures, people are told to avoid ED but still hang out in groups, everyone says not to panic
2) Some moderate resp failures and a few severe ones that need tube, but regular access to ED is significantly reduced so everything looks great

9/ 3)Tons of patients with moderate resp failure, that overtime deteriorate to saturate ICUs first, then NIVs, then CPAP hoods, then even O2.
4) Staff gets sick so it gets difficult to cover for shifts, mortality spikes also from all other causes that can’t be treated properly.

10/ Everything about how to treat them is online but the only things that will make a difference are: do not be afraid of massively strict measures to keep people safe,

11/ if governments won’t do this at least keep your family safe, your loved ones with history of cancer or diabetes or any transplant will not be tubed if they need it even if they are young. By safe I mean YOU do not attend them and YOU decide who does and YOU teach them how to.

12/ Another typical attitude is read and listen to people saying things like this and think “that’s bad dude” and then go out for dinner because you think you’ll be safe.

13/ We have seen it, you won’t be if you don’t take it seriously. I really hope it won’t be as bad as here but prepare.

You really need to learn how this viral infectious disease is spreading rapidly

Your chart you show with the line going up endlessly is wrong, here is the math, https://youtu.be/Kas0tIxDvrg

Indianna - case #3 testing positive for coronavirus is elementary school child

A school district in central Indianna has closed due to one of its students turing up positive

There goes the old folks theory!

Whatever

You ignore account about hospital overwhelmed with dying patients and you want to quibble about ******* math?

But you brought math into the discussion, and when it was pointed that the math you posted was flawed, now you don't want to squabble about it. Okay George.

Whatever, this isn't a ******* debating society, all the jibber jabber isn't going to wish away what is happening in Italy when the wave breaks here. Get your heads out of the sand and stop trying to wish this away.

Italy is what happens when the disease overruns your medical capability to handle the massive surge in patients that can happen when the disease spikes, that's all I was saying. The capacity of our healthcare system to handle the surge can easily be overrun if you don't take measures to stop the spread NOW. Jacking around in delaying testing now to "make the numbers look good" is stupidity beyond belief.

The idea is to slow down the spread of the virus! Letting in more infected is just going to add to the problem, and the main wave hasn't even hit yet!

We are two weeks behind Italy, you keep ignoring Italy, pretend it can't happen, but that is exactly what can happen in a couple weeks and when you have a federal government with its head up its *** you end up behind the curve of the epidemic!

That's where we are today, less than a month away from total disaster.

Italy will need a precautionary bailout — a ‘financial firewall’ — as coronavirus pushes it to the brink

Italy’s crisis could soon become unmanageable, potentially causing mayhem in world financial markets.

Italy needs a €500 to €700 billion ($572 billion to $801 billion) precautionary bailout package to help reassure financial markets that the Italian government and banks can meet their debt payment obligations as country’s economic and financial crisis digs in and becomes more fearsome.

Just as the human costs of the coronavirus have grown alarmingly, Italy’s crisis could soon become unmanageable, potentially causing mayhem in world financial markets.

I'm done criticizing Trump and the gov's response to this. His shortcomings in leadership and ridiculous falsehoods were blatantly clear - at least to me - over the past month and half. We're slowly but surely getting into a 'wartime president' situation, where there's simply no reason to point fingers and lay blame. We should all focus on how things can stabilize asap, and hope the damage is mitigated as much as possible.

I will continue to argue with those on the board - and elsewhere - who for whatever reason and with whatever motive - continue to downplay this pandemic, try to sugarcoat it and pretend it's no big deal, claiming it's 'just like any other seasonal flu virus.' That is not helping anyone at this point, including your friends and family who may get caught up in it.

Hope everyone stays safe and healthy. Wishing you all the best, in particular those with older friends and family members, and those working in the medical & nursing fields.

California county cancels mass gatherings following first death

Santa Clara County in California has canceled mass gatherings of more than 1,000 people, a move that could have a significant impact on three local sports teams.

You are talking about MORBIDITY rate.

The current MORTALITY rate is 26 deaths / 700 cases = 3.7%.

Fuine enough, but do you really think a President Hildebeast is any better equipped to handle this crisis or would have done things any differently? Especially since she's taken millions of dollars from China over the last 25 years? Or would she just get less criticism since she's a Democrat?

Who da **** cares about Hillary Clinton right now? What the hell does she have anything to do with COVID19? Jesus Christ, talk about politicizing this issue.

If you don't like the way Trump is handling it, well she was the other choice in the last election.

Tibsy,

You are not far from Italy and the national shutdown.

Tell us the steps you are taking in your booming biz in Hungary: restaurant, right?

You must be taking strong, responsible steps to protect the public, your employees, etc. so that your realm is safe.

Please share details

The real lesson regarding this outbreak is how dependent we are on China for production of our basic medical needs, and how we need to get our **** together and start production domestically.....or at least diversify the sources. China threatened us last week, to cut off basic supply of oft used pharmaceuticals.....not good.

Which can lead one to wonder, with the timing of this in an election year, whether there was something strategic to this outbreak. Seriously, would you not put it past the Chinese Communist regime, that has millions of people in concentration camps right now, to concoct such a plan?

COVID-19 Deaths and Incredible WHO Estimates

Makes the case that the true mortality rate is more like 1% and reminds us -
The ongoing COPD-19 outbreak in Kirkland Washington at the Life Care nursing home and Evergreen hospital represents high‐risk concentrations of vulnerable seniors. Among those who died in Washington, all but two were in their 70s or 80s (the other two in their 50s) and most had “underlying health conditions.” Evergreen hospital has two more in critical condition, in their 70s and 90s, both with underlying conditions.

Sounds a lot like the flu.
