The Coronavirus thread

I'm at that age where shingles could be a problem and my doc wants me to get the new vaccine once was available. Guessing it is available now at their office but was not available last Spring when I had my physical.

Sarge what sort of hell did you go through when you got the shingles, I'll be honest I'm not up to speed with it. I remember hearing it is very painful and usually affects one side of the body or the other.

For me it was the right side of my head, face, neck and part of my chest covered in blisters. It was probably one of the most painful things I've ever endured. Couldn't sleep at night, because the minute you rolled over onto it, the pain woke you up immediately. It lasted about three weeks. After two or three days of no sleep, I self medicated with alcohol just to sleep for a little bit. After the pain subsided, then the itching became intense for about a week until everything healed. I was out of work for a month with that ****. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Oh, and I was 21 when I had shingles.

I wonder what the stats are for shingles at that age...I would think it would have to be pretty rare.

I don't know another person that had shingles. so I can't compare. Article I read said it is most common in people over 50, but can occur in anyone that has previously had chickenpox.

I had chicken pox twice as a kid- the first case was so mild that I didn’t build up an immunity to it. My second case 6 years later was a totally different story. Had them EVERYWHERE...scalp, eyelids, private areas...you name it, there were pox. I guess that makes me very susceptible to shingles then? Or maybe I’m some genetic weirdo who would be immune?

Either way- count me out on the vaccine.

We have had people with shingles and our one older housekeeper had it. Said it was very painful

I had shingles in my early 40s. On my back. It was a nasty *** rash, but other than some mild discomfort it wasn't a big deal. Not saying it can't be, but I got lucky I suppose. Got some meds, it went away.

I got shingles 5-6 years ago and it manifests on one side of the body -- for me the neck and lower scalp area in that case. Maybe my case wasn't too severe, but to me if felt like a bee sting that would not go away. The welts felt about like a yellow jacket sting feels about 30 minutes after. I had stinging or itching as I recall for a few days before the welts broke out. I just assumed I had been bitten by something.

Can you get it again after an outbreak?

Anybody notice that as soon as Trump recovers and looks reinvigorated, on cue the MSM carries stories about the first case of reinfection?

https://www.contagionlive.com/view/us-reports-first-confirmed-covid-19-reinfection-patient

So no now the media will be able to clamor on about Trump's greater susceptibility to the second wave and his recklessness.

But all of this is simply Phase 1. Billy Goat Gates said Covid will be the thing until 2022..

I got shingles in my 30s. ******* unreal how bad I had it. I didn’t sleep for two months. Tried to get the shot a couple months later when I was better. Pharm said “I’m not old enough”. I said all good I’ll pay cash. Nope I can’t give it to you!!! Wtf

What is your take on fit testing? To me all it does is show what can of mask CAN fit you, but its no guarantee that it will be on perfectly every time. You do the fit testing and are only required to do it once per year. If you use the same model mask you are not required to get re-fit tested. If you take the mask off / put it back on / get a new mask etc etc then there is no guarantee you will get the exact same fit. The difference between a good fit and bad fit can simply be position of the straps.

Got my "Worn Under Protest" mask from Amazon today. It's made in China.

The respiratory protection standard was never intended to cover these types of masks. It was written for half face/full face respirators that
A. Actually have an impact on the air restrictions to oneself - ie medical Evals importance
B. Truely going into a immediate dangerous situation/atmosphere.

There is case law a hospital put forth awhile ago regarding this with respect to TB. While the review commission sided with osha, imo it left room to continue the fight as the hospital didn’t push it forward.

Now to your question. If you are properly fitted, use the same mask, manufacture, size, your body/face do not change (ie get fat), and are “properly trained”. ....yes they are effective ....but not full proof. Hence 95%. That is why you are supposed to do a seal check with every new mask you don.

Same here. This was about 6 years ago and I had it all over my face (eyelids, nose, behind the ears) and across one side of my torso. It was truly awful. Like you mentioned, sleeping (or lack of) was the worst part because you honestly couldn't move without shooting pain. Mine lasted about 3-4 weeks as well.

Wouldn't wish that **** on anyone.

To anybody whose doctor recommended the shingles vaccine for ANY reason, get it. Get it ASAP.

I've resisted because I hate vaccines. Did you have chicken pox as a child?

Yes. That's how you get Shingles apparently, dormant pox's sitting around.

But they wore masks???

Joe Biden's campaign is halting the travel of his running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, through this weekend after two people -- a flight crew member and Harris' communications director, Liz Allen -- tested positive for coronavirus.

Harris was not in what the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define as close contact with either person, Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a statement. Still, Harris' planned trip to North Carolina on Thursday was scrapped, and she will remain off the road until Monday, she said.
