The Coronavirus thread

Whelp my daughter's best friend just tested positive for the 'Rona this morning.....and guess who spent the night at her house 2 days ago? Yup. My kid is quarantined from school for 14 days. If she shows symptoms or tests positive, we are all quarantined. *******....Chyyyna.

No worries. I know that Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Slavic nations, United States just cannot slow down a virus despite lockdowns and bankruptcies and masks, but I heard some decrepit old guy hiding in a basement in Delaware has a magic cure.

Not clear why he hasn't already shared it and stood by while more than a million people died, but seems he claims to know how to kill a virus.

Canada is experiencing record high cases in nearly every province and they have much stricter rules than the U.S and a Left wing government. Blaming Trump for Corona is idiotic.

Hope everything turns out OK, stay safe brother.

Hoping for the best.

Just wish dusty old geezer in basement would share his magic cure.

If Biden wins he will shut the country down for a month or two and then we will all be cured.

My daughter's school has 2 5th grade classes, 1 kid in each class just tested positive so they shut down both classes for 2 weeks.
I'll be surprised if they finish the year physically in school.

I was identified as a close contact in the beginning of October. I was out 2 weeks. The whole class was out, as were kids from the other SpEd class and 2 peer mentors. None of us had symptoms, so none of us got tested. Now I’m hearing that close contacts are required to get tested even if they are asymptomatic. So which is it?

Once Nevada vote goes dusty old man, Covid Joe is President and Covid no longer matters.

I guarantee you that in a few weeks, you will need to search to find an article from CNN, etc. mentioning the ******* disease, and when they do, be prepared to read the word "China."

And still nobody - NOT ONE ******* PERSON IN THE MEDIA - inquires as to how the 2nd most densely populated nation on earth, with 6 of the top 10 most populous cities,[SUP]*[/SUP] heavily reliant on public transportation and very close quarters, somehow, miraculously, inexplicably has basically zero cases of Chinese flu.

Amazing. Wow, wish free nations could emulate their amazingness.

Pfizer's vaccine is proven to be over 90% effective against COVID, and will be ready to go in a few weeks.

Lilly received emergency FDA approval for their antibody treatment.

This won't last much longer, but rest assured it will be Joe's plan that saved us.

What won't last much longer?

And it's crazy, how Pfizer just came out with that (when I heard the information was available in early October).

And I also heard the Trump admin had to hear it from Pravda; they weren't even notified @ Operation Warp Speed.

Like those ******* scumbag communists actually taking down notes about people who support Trump, we're taking down notes as well.

Our gating committee meets tonight to decide the next 2 weeks of school. The majority of the teachers are pushing for remote or hybrid, with remote winning out. The number of positive cases has gone up to over 20% in our county and if that happens, we are supposed to go full remote. What’s funny is that I haven’t heard of anyone testing positive at the school or anything like that. They say that all the ER beds are full in Wichita- full of Covid patients. Where are these people coming from? It’s almost like they are making up this ****.

In any case- I’m a bad person because I feel that remote/hybrid is not a good choice and I prefer in-person learning. Mostly for my mental health, but for the mental health of the students as well.

Well i agree in person learning is infinitely better. The critical care for hospitals in my area is over max right now. I know someone who went to the ER around here and had an over 5hr wait. As to where the people are coming from that is a good question. My daughter's school district had no cases that i know of. A couple other districts had about 10. The largest district was probably around 25 in the last few months, but that is counting elementary schools as well. Most nursing homes in this area were not taking residents so i think part of the hospital overcrowding is due to that.

On a side note my daughter had a bad cold, headache etc etc and they wouldn't test her even though both me and my gf were heavily exposed to covid patients. They said she did not have the right symptoms? Also a staff member tested positive here and was baby sitting a 3 month old before she knew she was positive. The baby had symptoms and they didn't test him either just said to keep an eye on him. The testing and criteria is all over the place

Yeah the criteria are inconsistent! At first I thought all close contacts were to be tested regardless of symptoms. When I was a close contact and had to be quarantined, I had to show symptoms before being able to test. Now it’s back to testing close contacts.

I was under the impression that if you show 2 of the symptoms on the list, you get a test. My main problem is that too much emphasis is put on having a fever. My normal body temp is about 97. So when I have a fever, the temp is what is considered “normal” (98.6). I think everyone is going to get this at some point and we just need to either let it ride or make the criteria consistent across the board. Oh and the 10 day close contact quarantine is absolute bull ****.

Know what you call a 5-hour wait in a Los Angeles emergency room before the Chinese flu?

Saturday.

My dad was stuck in the ER at UC for 5 DAYS a month ago. 5 DAYS waiting on an a plastic surgeon to fix his cut face and eye. Not in a normal room but in an ER special surgical room. The UCMH ER is the biggest and busiest in the area. He said it was insane.

Here’s a good “What if?” scenario that came to mind last night.

We know that China seems to have done amazingly well with handling the virus that actually originated there. Under 100k cases an less than 5k deaths.

What if... China developed the vaccine first, before releasing the virus. Then, after the virus has run its course so far in the US - and the election was declared in the media for Biden ... Pfizer ACQUIRED the vaccine from China?

My school is the last school in the entire county still open full time. Every other school is either hybrid or remote learning. Wonder how long we can hold out? No active cases that I know of. We had one girl get it last month but it was isolated to her only. It’s probably just a matter of time but I never thought we would make it almost 3 months.
