The Coronavirus thread

Trump isn't changing his VP. It would appear to be what it is... pandering if he took Pence off the ticket. Nobody cares about the VP in a presidential race anyway.

Another bold prediction: Biden chooses a black woman as his VP.

All VP picks are pandering.

White House Will Hold Talks With U.S. Cruise and Airline Executives on Coronavirus Risk

Don’t worry, U.S. airlines and cruise ship companies. Demand is dropping like a rock. But Mike Pence is on the case. What could go wrong?

Airline stocks have fallen sharply in recent weeks. American, which was down 5.1% on Monday, is off about 40% in the last two weeks. United, which fell 4.8% Monday, is down almost 30% since Feb. 13.

If you're over 60, stay home, yeah that won't affect anything, lol

The United States is considering ways to discourage U.S. travelers from taking cruises as part of a broader Trump administration effort to limit the spread of coronavirus

Amtrak to suspend nonstop trains between DC, NY amid coronavirus concerns

The company said in a statement that demand for direct routes between the cities has decreased and that nonstop service will be suspended through May 26. "As we are experiencing some reduced demand for our service, we are making temporary adjustments to our schedule, such as removing train cars or cancelling trains when there is a convenient alternative with a similar schedule that will have minimal impact to customers," Amtrak said in a statement.

The statement came as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) on Friday announced a fourth person in the state had tested "presumptive positive" for coronavirus.

Italy to adopt new draconian steps to fight coronavirus

So far only a few limited areas of northern Italy, known as “red zones”, have been quarantined, but in a dramatic escalation the draft tells people not to enter or leave Lombardy or 11 provinces in other regions.

The legislation is expected to be approved later on Saturday, the head of the civil protection agency said earlier, after the number of infections rose by more than 1,200 in the last 24 hours.

In all the areas covered by the decree, including towns in the northern regions of Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont, schools will be closed at least until April 3, all museums, gyms and swimming pools will be also shut and leave is canceled for all health care workers.

Pope Francis will deliver Sunday prayers by livestream to keep crowds away from Saint Peter's Square as Italy battles coronavirus

The Vatican appears to believe that the pope's absence from his traditional spot at the window will keep the crowds on the vast square down and the threat of contagion low.

The pope himself has been out of action for more than a week with a cold and was pictured coughing while delivering prayers last Sunday.

‘Get ready’: Italian doctors warn Europe of coronavirus impact on hospitals

‘It will be tough’, British doctor admits after Italian experts warn one in 10 of those infected need intensive care

Italian doctors have warned medics across Europe to “get ready” for coronavirus in a letter revealing up to 10 per cent of all those infected with coronavirus need intensive care, with hospitals becoming overwhelmed.

The letter, seen by The Independent, reveals the scale of the impact on hospitals in Italy where 5,883 patients have been infected with the virus and 233 people have died as of 6pm on Saturday.

They said Italian hospitals had seen “a very high” number of intensive care patients who were admitted “almost entirely” for severe lung failure caused by the virus and needing ventilators to help them breathe.

While I agree in general Vader, let me throw this at you; Biden picks Hillary to be his VP. Biden is showing signs of senility or dementia and for the 'good of the country', will eventually step down due to it; and voila! there's your Madame President that so many tards think should be President right now.

I have to stop following James Woods on Twitter.

To me, there is zero question that something is afoot either on the VP ticket or at the Convention. I compare Biden's Super Tuesday Charge to Tiger's win at Augusta last year: Despite the narrative and huge fanfare, had little to do with the winner as much as much more to do with the 5-6 key players in the Championship Round and what each did and didn't do. Warren staying in and Pete and Kloch getting out were all strategically-timed to blunt Bernie.

There is just no way the Democrat Party sees Biden as a four year option. Biden is mentally in really bad shape. As someone said, if he took the Mini-Mental Status Screening exam on the 30 point scale, he'd probably score in the teens. He hasn't been alert and oriented to person, place, and time for awhile now and is exhibiting troubling signs of cognitive decline. He didn't know what state he was in. He mistook his sister for his wife. He told people he was running for the US Senate. To quote the AT&T Commercial, "just OK is not OK."

He's not even "just OK." If they put him on the trail or Debate Stage vs Trump, the media will have a harder time covering for him. I'm leaning toward them having a brokered Convention with Hillary, Wookie, or Abrams somewhere on the ticket with Bloomberg and Soros financing the war chest. There is just no way Biden emerges at the standard bearer for the next four years and 50/50 odds as the eventual nominee. He's toast mentally.

I also don't feel great about Biden and Bernie on the trail with Corona spreading. They are both very vulnerable and not as OCD as Trump who has to eat McDonalds for fear of poisoning. He's probably sanitizing himself hourly.

Listen to Tucker. Some interesting facts.

95% of antibiotics in America are made in China. AKA, they have us by the balls.

Coronavirus is rumored to have been developed in as a bio-warfare weapon. Maybe. Maybe not. But it hails from China.

Trump goes after China in the trade war.

Tucker speculates China will use this as leverage.

"China has a total monopoly on the most important medicine in the world. That should worry you more than anything the candidates are currently talking about. Imagine watching one of your children die from an infected cut. China has the power to make that happen. The Chinese government is acutely aware of this power. Last year a prominent Chinese communist suggested cutting off the supply of antibiotics to the United States as leverage in the trade war. That should have been the biggest story in America. The news media all but ignored it."

Reminds me Trump is right. The media IS the enemy of the people.

So lets look at the facts

1. Virtually no one under 30 gets any symptoms
2. Virtually no one under 60 gets severe symptoms... mild symptoms are about the same as the common cold through a mild flu
3. The deaths are almost entirely in the 80 year old plus range with a few exceptions of people with preexisting respatory symptoms
4. The death rate is expected to crater as it was probably artificially inflated by the Chinese trying to cover up how widespread it was... it will end up with a 2% death rate like any flu without a vaccine yet...
5. A coronavirus vaccine was virtually done years ago, but funding was cut do to stupid reasons... its not like they are starting from scratch here...

This is absolutely a panic over a worse case scenario that just isn’t playing out... its the typical hurricane warning that makes things sound 100 times worse than they are...

This is a huge deal for the elderly... but for everyone else its an inconvenience...

OH, FOR **** SAKE!

And I thought you were all ******* stupid for not knowing what morbidity rate meant!

You're such a horse's ***. He commented how we are at the mercy of China because they are the source for much of the raw ingredients in making medications, from antibiotics to antihypertensive drugs. We allowed this to happen to us, and it didn't start with the current administration.

Again, stop making this political, jackass.

OH, FOR **** SAKE!

Antibiotics to fight a virus?

And I thought you were all ******* stupid for not knowing what morbidity rate meant!

You obviously did not watch the video. I suggest you do.
The point is that we have outsourced some basic medical remedies to China, and it has put us in an extremely vulnerable position.....and China knows it. We, as a country, have put our security at risk, and we need t start manufacturing basic stuff, for our survival.....and it should start with life saving pharmaceuticals.

No one is suggesting that antibiotics are the cure for viruses.

Watch the video and learn, dumbass.

what part of his post said the antibiotics was for fighting a virus?

antibiotics are needed for lots of reasons, but virus' are not among them. No one said they would help with the virus.

why don't you read the post or listen to the posted video before posted your ignorant response?

The Dems are desperate to smear Trump, and they will try to make this out to be his Katrina, even though those idiots in LA were told to evacuate but ignored the orders.

And I thought you were all ******* stupid for not knowing what morbidity rate meant!

If you think people are stupid for not knowing in detail what morbidity rate is, you're an ingenuine, pompous jackass. That's not something that's talked about across most dinner tables, or even in elitist leftist circles I'm sure. I worked for a Professor of Microbiology for two years so I at least had some real-world knowledge and I probably could have articulated it better, but you're still wrong if you simply think it's number of infected. From WebMD:

What is the definition of morbidity rate?
ANSWER

Morbidity rate is the percentage of people who have complications from a medical condition or after a procedure or treatment.

No one is suggesting that antibiotics are the cure for viruses.

Watch the video and learn, dumbass.

That too. What an *******.

This virus can cause complications to respiratory illness, some of which will be bacterial in nature and so antibiotics may be used... ots just like any other virus, other meds can be used to combat symptoms until it runs its course

it will end up with a 2% death rate like any flu without a vaccine yet

Northern Italy to quarantine 16 million people

Italy is set to lock down at least 16 million people in the region of Lombardy and in 11 other provinces in the north and east of the country.

The mandatory quarantine will last until early April.

The dramatic escalation in the country's efforts to contain the new deadly coronavirus will close gyms, pools, museums and ski resorts.

The death toll in Italy has passed 230, with officials reporting more than 50 deaths in 24 hours. The number of confirmed cases jumped by more than 1,200 to 5,883 on Saturday.

US hospitals are preparing for 96 MILLION coronavirus infections and nearly HALF A MILLION deaths

US hospitals are preparing for 96 million coronavirus infections and nearly half a million deaths from the outbreak, leaked documents have revealed.

The spread of the deadly disease could be far worse than officials claim, with 480,000 Americans expected to die from the virus and 4.8 million hospitalized, according to a presentation hosted by The American Hospital Association (AHA) in February.

This puts the crisis on a level more than 10 times greater than that seen in a severe flu season.

The shock figures fly in the face of claims made by President Trump who has maintained on many occasions that the risk to Americans is 'low'.

Dr. James Lawler, a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, presented the harrowing 'best guess' estimates of the extent of the outbreak to hospitals and health professionals as part of the AHA webinar called 'What healthcare leaders need to know: Preparing for the COVID-19' on February 26.

US Navy sailor in Italy tests positive for coronavirus

(CNN)A US Navy sailor stationed in Naples, Italy, has tested positive for coronavirus, marking the first positive case for a US servicemember stationed in Europe, according to a statement from US European Command and US Naval Forces Europe-Africa.

To prevent the virus from spreading among the Armed Forces, the US Navy, Air Force and Army has begun screening new recruits for the coronavirus.

'Get ready': Italian doctors warn Europe

Professor Maurizio Cecconi, Professor Antonio Pesenti and Professor Giacomo Grasselli, from the University of Milan, revealed how difficult it had been to treat coronavirus patients.

“We are seeing a high percentage of positive cases being admitted to our intensive care units (ICUs), in the range of 10 per cent of all positive patients... We wish to convey a strong message: Get ready!”

Italian hospitals had seen “a very high” number of intensive care patients who were admitted “almost entirely” for severe lung failure caused by the virus and needing ventilators to help them breathe.

Patients with coronavirus experience a severe infection in all of their lungs, requiring major ventilation support. It also reveals the effect of the virus, which affects blood pressure, the heart, kidneys and liver with patients needing sustained treatment...

“The last days are showing a younger population involved as if the elderly and weaker part of the population crashed early and now younger patients, having exhausted their physiological reserves, come to overcrowded, overwhelmed hospitals with little resources left.”

Tourism is 10% of GDP in France, 13% in Italy, 15% in Spain. And Now it’s in Free Fall

“If the situation of generalized panic continues, thousands of businesses, especially small ones, will first enter a liquidity crisis, then close their doors.”

With millions and millions of tourists voting with their feet by staying at home, one of Europe’s most important and (until four weeks ago) fastest growing industries is taking a hammering.

The world right now is full of places that should be teeming with people but are not, including many iconic tourist landmarks and attractions. In Italy, home to Europe’s third biggest tourism industry, large parts of the country are on lock down after being hit by the biggest outbreak of the COVID-19 outside of Asia. Many of the most famous tourist attractions have been closed and big international events, including the Venice Carnival, have been cancelled.

The impact on the country’s tourism industry has been brutal, prompting panicked representatives to warn that a “generalized panic” over coronavirus could “sink” the sector. “There is a risk that Italy will drop off the international tourism map altogether,” said Carlo Sangalli, president of Milan’s Chamber of Commerce. “The wave of contagions over the past week is causing huge financial losses that will be difficult to recoup.”

In the three most affected regions — Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna (in descending order) — cancellation rates on bookings of hotels, flights and apartments have reached as high as 90%.
