The Coronavirus thread

All you Chicken Little mf'ers need a reality check.

CDC flu metrics for 2019-2020

AIDS is easily preventable. You’re not going to get it from touching a door handle and then your face.

I wouldn't be too sure of that, door knobs/ heads up *****, seems to be a big thing around here. Wash your hands!

They have a guy in my county from New York isolated right now. He tested positive for it. I'm sure the folks in retirement communities are going bonkers right now. They can be pretty isolated. Just keeping everyone out for a while will be the best viable solution. If it spreads more they'll shut all of the public schools down. Probably everything. I'm personally not concerned with it for myself or family. The old and sick are the biggest concerns and how easily it spreads. This should really improve personal hygiene in country for a good while.

******* Chinese. This **** was from their lab. I'd bet my life on it.

Again, the fact that the majority of people will have no symptoms or mild symptoms is terribly problematic and NOT because they might seek medical attention.

The people with the common cold are going to be running to the hospital and there they will have a greater chance of catching the real thing...

Lets get to the facts we know right now...

1. Its not as contagious as the measles... its spread very similarly to high contagious diseases like the flu or ebola... sneezes and coughs within a three to six foot radius and can survive on surfaces for a couple days... its not a true “airborne virus” in as much as it cannot travel hundreds of feet in the air, for what that is worth

2. There isn’t a surefire answer to lifelong immunization after contracting it yet, but every other coronavirus has that trait
its likely that even if its on the higher end of contagion, it is pretty much a one year pass through the world... not a reoccurring problem...

I mean there is a lot of math behind virus patterns... and victim redundancy with similar illnesses...

I don’t get why this is being treated as it is while Ebola, which is light years worse, was completely ignored, and swine flu, even though it was ultimately just a different flu, had 1/5th of the response that this has had...

Italy closes bars, restaurants and most shops as coronavirus death toll jumps 30%

The latest restrictions come as the virus death toll surged over 30% on Wednesday to more than 800 - the biggest daily jump since the start of the outbreak.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said supermarkets and pharmacies will be the only retailers to remain open in Italy.

Conte said it was time to “go one step further” as he announced the closure of most commercial and retail activities with bars, restaurants and beauty salons among those ordered to shut. Public services remain in place and industrial production is allowed to continue, on condition that companies adopt safety measures to protect workers and prevent contagion.

As of Wednesday evening, Italy recorded 12,462 confirmed cases of the virus, and 827 deaths, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University and Italy’s Civil Protection agency. The death toll from the virus a day earlier had been 631 people.

correct, dipshit. and if you recall the AIDS scare when it first hit, NBA players were not going to play basketball with Magic Johnson due to hysterics from the media. so why don't you calm your little *** down and stop feeding into the panic?

Dipshit, It’s fact, not panic. NBA players CAN get CoronaVirus from playing basketball against a player with the virus. What. The. ****. Could possibly be your point?

They go over the top dramatic to get the masses to pay attention. People will just ignore stuff unless you do.

They do it with massive storms like hurricanes here and still dumbshits will stay in places most vulnerable. The drama is to save lives. They kind of do it with the flu every year. Get your shot..haha. I've never had a flu shot ever. My entire family all got the flu last year, but me. I cleaned up **** and vomit for a week and never got a thing. Other than being repulsed by all of it..

Yeah, great speech

C’mon, Trump and his administration are a hot mess dealing with this thing. It’s one thing for them to have to clarify and correct Trump after impromptu remarks, it’s quite another when they have to do it immediately after a scripted, nationally televised speech.

Trump is a dumbass as some of us have said before. He is terrible at communicating well and that is part of what is causing the panic.

That said, Pence has been great. And no president would really be "dealing with this thing" any better, because no president would be the one handling the technical medical aspects of it. The media is tripping over themselves trying to blame the Trump administration for everything. They are contributing to the panic and the mistaken impression that the professionals who are actually in charge of the response are incompetent. It's completely irresponsible and so transparent.

Finally! Someone gets it.

Thick heads need beaten with clubs and exclamation points to make any impact at all on the brains of the huddled herd masses.

let me break out the crayons so I can try to get this through:

1. the AIDS hysterics were over-the-top as we look back. Then, not so much. Sound a bit familiar, Chickentrog?
2. During the AIDS epidemic, we didn't really know how it was passed. We assumed from blood, and possibly sweat (see the NBA Mensas for reference)
3. Those who are dying are in socialist healthcare, where more will die as care is rationed, thus driving the numbers up

The best conspiracy theories ( every one has solid evidence for and really good reasons against except 10... thats just on there for ***** and giggles cause it shows up so often in threads on it... lol)

1. Made in china and accidentally escaped
2. Made in china and intentionally released as a population control
3. The actual wutan virus was something horrible that escaped from that lab... china swooped in, covered it up, and released this to cover for it with the WHO
4. Russia or another foreign country released it to kill the Chinese economy
5. The Conservatives in America released it to cover for the impending oil war economic turbulence and to reset a overvalued stock market
6. The liberals released this to get rid of Trump, knowing that crashing the economy was their only hope
7. The globalists did this to break up the nationalist movements.
8. Pharmaceutical companies released it because they had vaccines and treatments ready and SARs was a no go so they weren’t making money off of them...
9. (A play off of 2) the illuminati or some shadow org did this as worldwide population control.
10. Something, something, stupid zombie apocalypse theories....

11. And this IS probably what happened, because its happened before and a guy is in jail for it. The Chinese created this ****, tested it on animals, THEN resold those animals back to the wet market in Wuhan. Look it up, its happened before in China.

Trump muzzled the disease experts to paint a bullshit "its just the flu" rosy picture

Yeah, great speech

Now he will reap the whirlwind

From my family at NIH:

1) C-19 is one of the hardiest bugs they've studied. It lasts 2-14days on surfaces. 48 hrs on stainless steel, 48hrs on cardboard.
2) It's way more airborne than people understand. You may not get it from the other side of the room if someone sneezes/coughs, but the virus can last in the air for 3hrs, and when it comes to rest on a surface, it will be there for 2-14 days.
3) Once in the body, the virus can take up to 14 days to show symptoms. Studies are showing it can be spread during this time as well.
4) Now you have a true quarantine timeline of 4-7 weeks as opposed to 2 weeks (2 weeks on a surface, 2 weeks to metastasize and 1 week to run its course, and another 2 weeks for the virus you are spreading by coughing, sneezing to die on all surfaces).
5) If you catch it once, your body can catch it again in the future.

4 and 5 are the reasons why the world is taking this so seriously. This isn't something that is going to be solved by politicizing and creating false talking points. C-19 doesn't give a ****, It will kill you no matter what your political affiliation is. It's a pandemic, and it isn't going away anytime soon.

And most are correct, it's going to attack the elderly and the immune deficient. The shutdown of schools, travel, large events flattens the curve, and stops healthy people from being carriers and spreading it to the populations that have no way to fight it.

WTF? Johnson got AIDS in 1991, almost decade into the outbreak. How it was transmitted was well understood.

Are you suggesting that CoronaVirus isn’t as contagious as warned?

Please provide evidence to #3. Care is self-rationed in the US when patients don’t seek treatment because they don’t have insurance. Like cooks and waiters... enjoy your lunch.

Heading to WV today for weekend ski trip. No CV fears there. Polio, TB, Ricketts, yes but not CV. I'll be able to take off my double layer toilet paper protective suit and live again...At least for 3 days. :)

Where in WV? Snowshoe? If so, great place have fun. Resort is on TOP of the mountain. Love that place.

Johnson, who tested positive for HIV last year, retired from the Los Angeles Lakers for a second time Monday. Although he didn't make his reasoning clear, a major factor was the statements of concern about the dangers of playing against him.
see how hysterics can have a cause/effect? perfectly ******* proven. though I'm sure you'll ignore it and cheer on continued hysteria like the dipshit you've shown yourself to be.

Are you suggesting that CoronaVirus isn’t as contagious as warned?
am I saying that? where did I say that? I'm saying the MSM is so full-on into driving this as the next plague, the next cold war, the next "day after" nuclear armageddon that the public by and large is playing into this and it's affecting things it should not, in any capacity. but again, keep applauding the hysterics as they continue to have ripple effects.

Please provide evidence to #3. Care is self-rationed in the US when patients don’t seek treatment because they don’t have insurance. Like cooks and waiters... enjoy your lunch.
self-rationed. you mean you can conduct your own heart surgery? or mammogram? or breast removal? or radiation treatments?

you're possibly the most daft son of a ***** to ever waste bandwidth on this board that you don't contribute to.

Inside China's high-stakes campaign to smear the United States over coronavirus

If you listened to Chinese state-run media, you'd think President Trump went to China and released vials of COVID-19 on groups of unsuspecting men, women and children.

Beijing has been bending over backward trying to convince the world that the United States is the real culprit behind the quickly spreading virus that's already claimed more than 4,600 lives across the globe.

It's a high-stakes strategy for the Asian nation fighting to keep its superpower status amid a national lockdown and palpable anger over claims that Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus, at first covered it up, triggering a worldwide health and economic crisis.

The Chinese government has already published a book in English -- with translations in the works in French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic -- touting its handling of the deadly disease.

"A Battle Against Epidemic: China Combatting COVID-19 in 2020" is a mishmash of glowing state media reports on the accomplishments of President Xi Jinping, the Communist Party and the dominance of the Chinese system in fighting the crisis.

At best, China's aggressive new campaign can be chalked up to ambitious propaganda. At its worst, it's a reckless display from a country that has actively misled the world while working overtime to save its own skin, foreign affairs expert Gordon G. Chang told Fox News.

Chang believes Beijing has been laying the groundwork for a PR attack against the United States for more than a month, first by throwing doubt on the origin of COVID-19 and second, by slamming America's handling of previous diseases like the swine flu, which decimated China's pork industry.

On Sunday, Lin Songtian, China's ambassador to South Africa, said: "Although the epidemic first broke out in China, it did not necessarily mean that the virus is originated from China, let alone 'made in China.'"

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Although the epidemic first broke out in China, it did not necessarily mean that the virus is originated from China, let alone "made in China". <a href="https://t.co/EVXLkQnyfF">pic.twitter.com/EVXLkQnyfF</a></p>— Chinese Ambassador to South Africa (@AmbLINSongtian) <a href="https://twitter.com/AmbLINSongtian/status/1236322524281044993?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 7, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Vague and misleading statements like the one from Lin are ripped right out of China's propaganda playbook and attempt to sow doubt about the global crisis.

Chinese officials have also pushed back on the expression "Wuhan coronavirus" -- saying the name used frequently by U.S. conservative commentators unfairly stigmatizes the world's most populous country.

Chang said it's just another tactic in China's playbook, carefully choreographed to make Americans look petty and racist.

"This an all-out assault on the United States," Chang said.

In December, when the coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, many media around the world began referring to it as the "Wuhan virus." But last month, the World Health Organization renamed the illness COVID-19 so as not to link it to a specific location or group of people.

The name change didn't stop some, like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who blew past warnings and deliberately referred to it as the "Wuhan virus" after China's foreign ministry called it "highly irresponsible" to do so.

President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, went even further Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, rather than using best practices, this outbreak in Wuhan was covered up," O'Brien said at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative-leaning think tank in Washington. "There's lots of open-source reporting from China, from Chinese nationals, that the doctors involved were either silenced or put in isolation, or that sort of thing, so that the word of this virus could not get out. It probably cost the world community two months."

O'Brien said if experts would have had those two months to get ahead of the spread of the virus, "I think we could have dramatically curtailed what happened both in China and what's now happening across the world."

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said the Communist Party is pointing the finger at the U.S. so it can dampen discontent back home.

“The Chinese military portal Xilu.com recently published an article baselessly claiming that the virus is ‘a biochemical weapon produced by the U.S. to target China,’" Rubio said.

Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton, has frequently used the term "Wuhan virus" on the Senate floor.

Earlier this week, several social media users took House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to task when he referred to it as "the Chinese coronavirus."

Instead of backing down, Chang believes officials should keep calling COVID-19 the "Wuhan virus" and push back on accusations of racism.

"This isn't a Republican thing. We all need to unite and for people to say, 'this is racist' is irresponsible," Chang said. "There is no race known as Wuhanese."

Chang also said calling COVID-19 the "Wuhan virus" or "Chinese coronavirus" keeps pressure on the Chinese government and forces it to be held accountable by the rest of the world for its initial response to the global crisis, which was widely regarded as abysmal.

China, though, is using everything in its arsenal to paint itself as a global hero, rewriting history and going so far as to demand a thank you for containing the virus as long as it did.

"We should say righteously that the U.S. owes China an apology, the world owes China a thank you," an editorial on state news agency Xinhua read.

Also peculiar is that Beijing -- which is normally quick to censor news -- has refused to step in as a wave of anti-American conspiracy theories flood the internet. Among the rumors is that the U.S. created the coronavirus to make China look bad as well as one that accuses the government of covering up thousands of deaths by classifying them as the regular flu.

"It's more than just some disinformation or an official narrative," Xiao Qiang, an adjunct professor at the University of California at Berkeley's Schools of Information, told The Washington Post. "It's an orchestrated, all-out campaign by the Chinese government through every channel at a level you rarely see. It's a counteroffensive."

Does Joe Biden inspire a lot more confidence in some of you folks? Just curious...

I can't imagine anyone would believe Joe would inspire more confidence or do better. He's spent 44 years in Government and done nothing. Literally no accomplishments. He's voted on the wrong side of every foreign policy decision ever. He was basically a prop for Obama. Now, he's old, senile, can't remember his words, literally appears to be suffering some form of dementia, has a female-fondling problem, curses at constituents, calls potential voters names (dog faced pony soldier), and thinks an AR15 is an AR14.

All I can envision is Joe in front of a microphone, saying **** like this....

<a href="https://imgflip.com/i/3saun6"><img src="https://i.imgflip.com/3saun6.jpg" title="made at imgflip.com"/></a>

It's a known fact that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is located at ground zero for this virus. Of all the places in the world where this could have started, it started on the doorstep of a Chinese bioweapon facility. If anybody thinks that is a coincidence, I have a bridge for sale. China can go **** themselves.

Ohs noes... if we actually test for it we find so many that the death rate plummets to barely significant.... cannot do that

Who gives a **** about ******* statistics at a time like this?

We AREN'T testing because Trump ignored testing for a month to keep his numbers from "looking bad"

**** all that cold stat bullshit, this is way more personal than stats. One death that could have been prevented from early testing, that wasn't done, will be remembered by the families involved.

People are being left to die in hallways in Italy because they don't have the bed space, ventilators to keep them alive!

S Korea has been doing over 10,000 tests a day for weeks while our health agencies have done 10,000 TOTAL!

A complete clusterfuck breakdown from the beginning, because of the "its just the flu bro" mentality
