Agree with Joy Reid. This is not the time for any of this. There should be laser-like focus on an effective, bi-partisan response in Congress to the pandemic, particularly with the lack of leadership in the WH right now.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted diagnostics giant Roche Holding AG an emergency approval for an automated coronavirus test, which the company said could increase testing tenfold for the virus that has reached pandemic levels.

The FDA granted an “emergency use authorization” to the test, which functions on Roche’s cobas 6800/8800 systems, Bloomberg News reported. The 8800 system can test up to 4,128 patients a day. The 6800 system can test as many as 1,440 a day, the Switzerland-based company confirmed.

“We are increasing the speed definitely by a factor of 10,” Thomas Schinecker, head of Roche’s diagnostics unit, told Bloomberg News.

This is the first commercially available test granted emergency approval by the FDA. The agency approved diagnostic tools from the CDC and the New York State Department of Public Health last month.

Roche’s cobas systems are available around the world, according to Bloomberg News. There are 695 of the 6800 instruments and 132 of the 8800 systems installed. There are 110 of these systems in the United States, and the company said it installed a “significant amount” in the country in recent weeks.

The two systems are able to provide test results within four hours. The company said it is “going to the limits of its production capacity,” Bloomberg News reported.

The company declined to comment on pricing for the tests to the outlet.

“We definitely extended the capacity of the testing significantly throughout the U.S,” Schinecker told Bloomberg News. The company also had an existing test for the coronavirus, but the cobas 8800 system can test patients approximately 10 times faster.

Well, that’s just ****** up. That’s ten times the number of people killed in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan combined. I can only imagine how unconcerned you are with casualties of war.

The number of cases has increased 24x in the past twelve days. Now that rate should decrease, let’s say to 1/10th. It won’t be until late July early August that 1,000,000 people have died and you’ll finally be concerned. Personally, I’m hoping the rate decreases way more than that.

I think there is a much greater chance of infection that .000001%. To a person, the experts are saying this is highly contagious. Just because few have been infected to this point doesn't mean there is little chance you will catch it. While I am not on the doom and gloom bandwagon like Spike, Tibs and Trog, I don't think any of this is good whether people are over-reacting or not. It is a new disease with little known about it, and the people that do know about it are not sharing that information, threatening to cut off our supply of antibiotics (that don't help with a virus anyway) and are being defended by the liberal media against us awful, racist Americans. I figure if you are washing your hands regularly, not picking your nose and eating boogers without washing your hands, or licking windows or doorknobs, your chances of catching it decrease greatly. Now if some infected ******* sneezes in your face, I wish you the best because respiratory illness is likely in your near future.

All of that said, I am not going to stop living my life. There are measures I can take to protect myself, but it doesn't mean I need to become a hermit.
