Someone replied pages ago (I'm not going searching for it) that they knew personally 2 who had it, one was on a vent and in her 20s if I recall?

No one so far. My sons university which has been shutdown now, has 12-15 cases. My plant (BMW) with 10,000+ employees hasn’t shutdown yet but they are going to 4/4-4/19. I will still be working since I am in maintenance. Zero positives so far.

That was me through my wife. Outside NYC this is spreading slowly thanks to people living farther apart and keeping their distance. NYC needs nuked.

There was a step-grade and progression to the plagues in Egypt before the Exodus. Perhaps the issue is not to smite humanity, but to get people's attention before hearts are hardened.

Certainly seems to be a disproportionate number of celebs, entertainers, athletes, and now politicos either confirmed or in self-quarantine relative to their numbers in the overall population.

Our own Big Ben too must have been called in to do a PSA in case you haven't seen it.

That part was predictable. Does he doesn't he have it? Kinda like the broken toes.

I don't recall one athlete, celeb, or entertainer getting non-election year H1N1.

They clearly want this to capture the public consciousness at this time and the big guns have been called out.

Similar rate as here in Hungary. Overnight, we went from 85 cases yesterday to 135 today.

It is not just about total numbers or deaths, Flu season while horrible and deadly is spread out over a much more gentle curve and stays within the bounds of what our medical system can handle in almost all cases but it does strain them. This without these controls put in place would do to our medical system what it is doing in other countries and that is an overwhelming need for ventilators due to the much more severe respiratory issue associated with the severe cases. If you don't do what we are doing you will have a lot of deaths that can be prevented simply by slowing the progression of infections and minimizing the number of people with severe cases and needing ventilators at the same time. It is not the flu, with the proper behaviors and actions it won't be a big deal and that is the ******* point of what we are doing! If in the near future we have some treatments and a lot more ICU beds with ventilators the equation starts to change. Do you want to tell your parents sorry you will die because we don't have enough beds with ventilators and I could not stay home? That is what is happening in Italy and why so many are dying. It isn't because the disease is that deadly with proper treatment it is the total amount of cases overwhelming the system and keeping them from getting treatment.

Most cases so far are travel related. People that travel a lot are getting it.

IDK, when Tom Hanks, Ellen, Madonna, Trudeau, NBA players, Rand Paul, and others "have it" or are self-quarantining when 0.01 pct of the US population has it, I'm quite suspicious of the narrative and proportionality of the news story.

Celebrities are well less than 0.01 pct of the US or world population, but they seem to be affected in much higher numbers.

But that's very consistent with their outstretched impact on society.

Dude, there are 31,057 cases as of today in the US. Let's round it up and say there are 25 'celebrities' thus far who have contracted it, along the lines that you mentioned. They would make up a whopping 0.000805 of those afflicted. You may want to reconsider your conpiracy theories, while you still can.

Dude, we have no idea how many regular people have been affected. It's a whole hell of a lot more than the daily numbers confirmed by testing, I can assure you.

If anything celebs and politicians probably are having a much easier time getting tested. Which sucks but that's as far as I'll go with the conspiracy theory thing.

It was 38,000 cases when I checked a few hours ago. It was 26,000 last night. We will see how it climbs over night tonight.

It's really confusing to me, how some of you consider posts in this thread, ie those containing relevant information, real-time updates, etc. as 'doom and gloom.' WTF? I guess if you don't want to see the latest news, figures, stats and stories regarding this worldwide pandemic, maybe don't open the ******* thread. Or, should we be posting pictures of fields full of flowers, or butterflies, or something that's easier to stomach?
