Trump, Pelosi see 'Phase 4' coronavirus package that includes infrastructure spending

Trump on Tuesday called for $2 trillion in spending on infrastructure, saying in a tweet that it was time to “be VERY BIG & BOLD” while interest rates are low.

The joke on government spending used to be, "A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon it adds up to real money." (Sen. Everett Dirksen (R), Illinois.) The point back then was that government was spending so goddamn much money that a billion dollars was treated like it was nothing.

iu

Hey, Senator Dirksen was ahead of his time. The Fed is spending trillions of dollars - repeat, TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS - it does. Not. Have. The Fed now treats a billion dollars like chump change. Pocket lint.

This is insanity. If I was dying in the next 6 months, you are damn right I spend a lot. But I plan on being here for another 25 years, so I treat my money like it is a rare and valuable item, because IT'S A RARE AND VALUABLE ITEM.

And that is for planning to be around another 25 years, not another 250 years.

What the Fed is doing now is going to wreck this nation. No nation can spend the equivalent of its GDP in deficit spending and remain economically viable. Hell, remain relevant. We are watching the goddamn tsunami of spending leading to the country's end.

Sheriff's Office obtains arrest warrant for pastor of Tampa church that held two large Sunday services

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant for the pastor of a Tampa megachurch who held two services on Sunday for scores of worshipers, violating a county order for residents to stay at home to limit the spread of coronavirus.

“Because of the reckless disregard of public safety and after repeated requests and warnings, I worked with our state attorney, Andrew Warren, to obtain a warrant for unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules, both of which are second degree misdemeanors,” Chronister said. “Our goal here is not to stop anyone from worshiping, but the safety and well-being of our community must always come first."

yep...here we go again

Central pastor arrested after defying coronavirus stay-at-home order to hold services

CENTRAL La— A Central pastor who has defied government orders to limit crowds to 50 people or fewer, was arrested on six counts of violating the governor's order, after authorities say he's continued to hold large services.

Pastor Tony Spell’s arrest on Tuesday follows weeks of city and state leaders urging that he suspend services at Life Tabernacle Church in Central amid a surge in fatal coronavirus cases in Louisiana and East Baton Rouge Parish.

"He will be held responsible for his reckless and irresponsible decisions that endangered the health of his congregation and our community," said Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran. "We are facing a public health crisis and expect our community's leaders to set a positive example and follow the law."

But, despite the misdemeanor offenses carrying a maximum punishment of $500 and up to six months in parish jail, Spell said he plans to continue holding services.

"This is an attack on religion. This an attack our constitutional rights. We have a constitutional right to assemble and to gather and there no laws that I am breaking." he said

Spell said 305 people attended the Tuesday night service and boasted that more people attended on Sunday.

"I had 1,170 in attendance Sunday," Spell said. "We have 27 buses on Sundays picking up people in a five parish area," he said.

Look, if the government imposes stupid laws or overreaching restrictions, we all still have to obey. This is not some made up game where we can change the rules as we go.

However, if the question is, "Do you think the government is overreaching by ordering citizens to remain home due to a serious flu that could kill 0.5% (1.6 million) of the population if left uncontrolled?", then my answer is, "Yes." These restrictions impair our ability to work, meet people, get married, have kids, exercise, pay our bills, find a home, move to a new area, find a new job - in other words, live our lives.

More Americans will die of heart disease and cancer than the virus this year. Fact. Is that due to the stringent restrictions put in place? Sure, sorta. So should the United States order citizens to stop eating fatty foods, to lose weight, to exercise, to give up carcinogenic foods and habits? If not, why not? "Oh, heart disease is not contagious so it affects only you. Same with cancer." Uhh, no. You get heart disease, you need more medical care, cost more to keep alive. You die of heart disease, you cost your family and burden the taxpayer, burden your employer.

"Send not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

I guess that applies only to the virus.

Yeah, Barry's warnings might have more weight if he and the Moose did not buy a zillion dollar mansion ON AN ISLAND, BASICALLY AT ******* SEA LEVEL.

Also wouldn't hurt if he hadn't declined to replenish the national stockpile of N95 masks after the swine flu pandemic.

A federally backed task force and a safety equipment organization both recommended to the Obama administration that the stockpile be replenished with the 100 million masks used after the H1N1 outbreak.

Charles Johnson, president of the International Safety Equipment Association, said that advice was never heeded.

“Our association is unaware of any major effort to restore the stockpile to cover that drawdown,” he said.

HHS Secretary Alex Azar reported last month that only 12 million N95 masks were available in the stockpile, “a tiny fraction of the 3.5 billion masks one of Azar’s deputies later testified the nation’s healthcare system would need,” the Los Angeles Times noted.

And the truth seeps out

Also the government has no legal right to restrict churches... period ... if people choose to go its an inalienable right, just like they can refuse medical care on religious grounds... its a gross overstepping of government rights...

There are more people close quarters in every crowded walmart than there are in churches... I don’t care who likes it or not... this is a fundamental inalienable right...

No, that wasn't the question at all, I stated the question quite plainly

...but I'm glad you agree these Bible Thumpers were endangering the health of their flock and the surrounding public and should be jailed, thanks

Yeah, but with the new policies freeing even very dangerous criminals to protect against COVID-19, they will simply be processed and immediately released, right??

Or should we let robbers, burglars and rapists out and keep people in jail for going to church??

Jails Are Petri Dishes’: Inmates Freed as the Virus Spreads Behind Bars

The coronavirus is spreading quickly in America’s jails and prisons, where social distancing is impossible and sanitizer is widely banned, prompting authorities across the country to release thousands of inmates in recent weeks to try to slow the infection, save lives and preserve medical resources.

I’ll concede that. That said. Lockdown. Same as my nursing homes. How does it get in? Staff, visitors. Well remove one that’s not necessary, visitors. Now. Solid screen vetting process for staff. Will that eliminate the possibility no. Symptom for any virus don’t show bf spread. But you dramatically lesson your exposures.

****. We even have process for mail not to be touched or cleaned before distributing

And for the record, our testing capacity is ahead of any previous pandemic at the same stage right now... and its now at a higher pace than any other country

No, just no.

There’s a good reason South Korea was on top of this and it has everything to do with testing. The US has another million+ test before they approach the pace of South Korea.
