God I love you guys but you are all a bit dense sometimes. It isn’t about how deadly it is to any one person. Period. It is simply and completely about stopping it from overwhelming our hospital systems all at once. That is when it becomes far more deadly than it should be.
My daughter is on the front lines of this as a nurse and it is eye opening to see how easily this COULD overwhelm us if we don’t take it as seriously as we are. Again forget about mortality rates for now, it is about hospitalization rates. If we keep this flattened out it will have a much lower mortality because those needing the proper care will get it. If we don’t then we will see people who should survive this die simply because we can’t provide the proper level of care.
We can all keep tens of thousands from dying by keeping this under control. H1N1 did not have the same threat of overwhelming the system all at once that this does. It was a different disease.

Facts:
The masks were depleted when H1N1 hit, under Obama.
His Administration was told in 2009-2010 to replenish them.
His Administration spent the next 6-7 years NOT replenishing them.
Trump took office.
Trump did not replenish them either.

What we don't know: Was Trump aware? From 2016, on, is this Ben Carson's fault for not immediately cleaning up Obama's mess? I'm not sure.
But please don't kick the can down the road without giving due credit to Bathhouse Barry for starting this **** and allowing it to continue. And yes, shame on the rest of the Administrations for not jumping all over cleaning up Obama's **** up.

Obama watched as H1N1 tore through the country’s youth and gave half of a quarter of a ****.
He then displayed all the lessons unlearned treating Ebola about as seriously as a fart...
Trump had three years to remedy everything he bitched about with Ebola... he did a hair better in a couple things but still treated this mostly the same but with travel bans and quarantines
We got lucky that this is wasn’t a super deadly strain... maybe we will learn before a MERS type strain hits

“To date” what’s your point? COVID-19 deaths have ceased? H1N1 killed 12,500 over many months. There was testing for it within two weeks after the first diagnosis. It had a death rate of .02%. And you and Steeltime are terrible with decimal points and percentages as the figure you are referring to is .66%, not .066%! And .66% is also an estimate and a guess!
Trump gave up the flu and H1N1 argument weeks ago, why are you still using it? You know why Trump gave it up? Because the people who know what they are talking about told him two weeks ago what would be happening today. And they are now telling him what will happen over the next two weeks. He’s no longer doubting them.

A different twist on this though - the Flu is making CV19 more dangerous. Why? So far, to date, the US has hospitalized close to 400,000 Americans because of the flu. Let's say we could just snap our fingers and make that go away. POOF. We would have the healthcare capacity to treat CV19.
We don't have the capacity to treat both together. We have to flatten the curve of CV19 because of the flu and other maladies humans are battling in hospitals. If we were able to get rid of the flu, CV19 would be less deadly. Oh well, we cannot.

Separate note: One of my college roommates (who married my first cousin) is in ICU over in VA. Last week he had kidney stones. They put in stents to let them pass. He developed sepsis throughout his body. Got incredibly serious, he's been intubated. He's COVID negative, but in grave dangers. Because of this mess, his wife (my cousin) and his kids can't go see him. He could pass and he would do so alone. Horrifying how many people are dying alone, even those who don't have the virus.

No one is saying H1N1 and CV19 are both flus. I'm not. Both were/are epidemics, that's the point of comparison. How did Obama handle the H1N1 epidemic as compared to Trump handling the CV19 epidemic. Get it???

So a death from Covid-19 is worse than a death from Cancer, Alzheimers, Heart Disease, Parkinsons, MS? Spike, is it safe to say that most people with compromised immune systems, medical conditions like Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer...etc will almost always have a harder time recovering from pneumonia? Is it also safe to say that people over the age of 70 will also have a harder time overcoming pneumonia?

I hate partially siding with Trog I really do but read my post earlier today Tim, the hospitalization rate is the key difference between this and anything else we have seen in our lives. Yes all the numbers will come down as we get more testing to the those not as sick or asymptomatic. It is the sheer amount of people requiring ICU care that makes this so bad. Italy would have far fewer deaths if the system was not overrun. NYC where De Blasio ****** up and the pure density is against them it is getting that bad. Areas that have taken the proper measures have not seen more than they could handle to this point but it is not over yet. If handled right we won't get there and the death rate will be less than 1 percent but if we did not do what we are doing and those that could normally survive this with proper care can't get it then the death rate will be much worse.
