Well then it wasn't well thought out as it is just going to drive us away from them a for manufacturing even more. One of the bright sides of this whole thing is a realization of our over dependence on foreign manufacturing particularly from China.

The biggest concern, I think, is medication. I read that almost 90% of the supply chain is in Chinese hands. I don’t know if that is accurate, but regardless, this should show that we need to have control of that sort of thing. N95 masks are one thing. Medication is another story entirely. If you think **** is bad now, imagine if they were to cut that off. I don’t even want to think about it.

Walk it back, Tim! Where do I say I believe .66%? You referred to percentages. I referred to TRUMP’s figure of 100k+ deaths, NOT a percentage. POTUS TRUMP. But nary a criticism of him. Strange!

Some experts contend there are millions of undiagnosed cases. The percentage could be much less than even .66% and could well surpass 240,000 deaths. Who gives a **** about the percentage?

Fortunately, several companies have come forward with a vaccine, the problem is that due to the FDA Red Tape, it will take 18 months before it is approved for use. The best bet at this time is that widespread success of Hydroxychloroquine shows exceptional results. If we can keep the number of hospitalized cases below 4-5% then we have a flu like issue to deal with and we start to open things back up.

In 2020, to me, this has been the biggest evidence anyone needs to not trust Government, regardless the party you side with. It should remind us all, we too are mere pawns.

They emphatically told us they don't work. Point blank. In an attempt to get us to stop buying them. Now they are suggesting we all wear them. They lied to us. No matter how you justify or spin it.

I would respect them much more had they come out and said that: "The healthcare system is expecting a large surge in patients over the next 30-120 days. We currently are at a critical level of PPE surplus for the doctors and medical staff. We know that the N95 mask, when properly fitted can reduce the transmission of the virus. We would recommend that anyone that currently owns an N95 mask wear it whenever you are in a public area. We would request that people that do not own an N95 mask refrain from purchasing these masks until we have increased our supply to the medical community. The last thing that we can afford to have happen in the event of a surge is to have doctors, nurses, and therapists contracting the virus and being unable to assist patients. In the meantime, any mask that covers the nose and mouth will help with the transmission of large particulate transfer and will reduce the risk of exposure to the virus."

I know a lot of stores have stopped selling them to the public. Saving them all for healthcare workers and government entities in the fight against COVID19. So if they make it mandatory to wear a mask in public, gonna be lots of people stuck at the house or paying fines, I guess.

As far as the lies, there have been a lot of them. This should be relatively simple. Solve the crisis as a nation. But like everything, politics gets put in and facts and statements get twisted to fill an agenda. People are dying and politicians are playing games. While I have my doubts, I hope people are paying attention. This whole ordeal is revealing a need to make changes in those that represent the American people.

Seems so much easier than lying about it repeatedly. Maybe you should join the crisis response team.
 
One thing I do not understand is why the hell we can't have produced and delivered 500 million freaking masks by now. It really doesn't seem that complicated. Maybe someone who understands manufacturing processes can explain this.

Bear in mind that nobody started working on a vaccine immediately either


There were coronavirus vaccines already formulated bit not tested when this occurred... they weren’t starting from scratch... Johnson and Johnson already has something headed to trial... within a couple months of an outbreak there usually is several vaccines ready for test, and the tests are expedited... we are talking mid july or August for distribution not next year

Three thoughts:
1. This country desperately needs to get average Joe citizens back into political positions. Unfortunately, unless you are have millions of dollars in the bank you have next to no chance of ever being elected. That has to change. The sooner that we get people into office that truly understand this country and can honestly relate to the citizens they represent the better off we will all be. We need much better open and honest communication from the government, especially in tough economic times. The American people will always band together if they know that we have a plan and we know what the goal is.
2. There is no reason that a super power nation should EVER be more than 40-50% dependent on another country for any life essential items, prescriptions, PPE, Food...etc. Really in this day and age, even networking equipment like routers, modems...etc, as these have become crucial to information in times of an emergency. Especially since major news networks on public broadcasting have chosen not to play the President's daily news conferences. Until we as a country can be self reliant, you lose almost any and all real negotiating power and any crisis becomes that much more magnified. Shutting down a country in a pandemic does little good if the planes and ships are still transporting and carrying the virus all over the country (possible long before the first cases were ever detected or known about in the US.)
3. If the US Intel truly believes that the Chinese blatantly lied about the number of infected individuals, mortality rate, and how the virus is transmitted, the UN and every global country needs to be willing to place such extreme sanctions on China that it essentially collapses their economy and sends them back to the stone age. Had accurate numbers been reported, I am certain the WHO, CDC, and US Government would have had a much faster response with a better understanding of what they are dealing with. When your models are based on faulty data, you make what appears to be poor decisions.

Yes but I mean with all of the resources of the United States of America we can't put that together in a week or two? Or a month even?
 
Now what we could mass produce is rubber reuseable p100 respirators... take the disposable filters off and dip the whole thing in a sanitizer and its sterile again... it offers a lot higher protection and fit tests take a half hour tops, probably 15 minutes... for most hospital employees this could be a solution... and i believe a lot of cartridge production is in the usa already...

retooling of machinery and proper material components need to be procured in modern plants that are designed for a singular purpose take a bit longer to convert over.

Third party has no chance at ever winning a national level election. They might pull some votes from one side or the other, but outside of that there is little chance.
 
I've read hardly any of this thread, and I would be surprised if this hasn't already been discussed, but I would like to know why our national "stockpile" of PPE, and whatever else we have supposedly been "stockpiling" for situations like this, is almost gone after 2-3 weeks. How much funding is allocated to this kind of life & death stuff? If our income tax rates were closer to 100%, I bet we would have been able to make it at least four weeks before running out.
