The Coronavirus thread

The county I live in (Josephine) will only list how many cases are confirmed to have the virus and how many were tested. They won't say who, what, why or how. I'd like to have a little more information. I don't need to know their names but would like to see if we have shared the same businesses i.e. market, pet store or pharmacy,

I agree with you, to me, if you work in an office building and multiple tenants, if someone tests positive, the whole building should be notified. Especially when you share HVAC for an entire building.

We get info on individual cases in county and towns/city by age and sex, and by zip code, fewer than 5 in my area

If you can find where the CDC, HHS, NIH or DHS were saying the same things Trump said in the second week of March, I’ll see your point.

Trump ****** up, so did DeBlasio. People accused San Francisco of extreme over-reaction when they were the first to go into lockdown, but check out their graph. They never saw a surge. They flattened the curve immediately. I’m certain the rest of the country would do the same if they could go back in time. Stop the denial, Tim.

When you can point to the words Trump used hurting anything, you "might" have a point.

While you speak of San Francisco and the gold standard job they did, you might want to go re-check your history. Watch the video below, with countless examples of leaders in the USA and he world over downplaying this deep into March, MANY encouraging massive to large group gatherings in places like New York and lo and behold GASP Nancy ******* Pelosi encouraging group gatherings in China Town in San Francisco....all collectively saying, this is nothing to fear.

But you keep your sights locked in on Trump.

FACTS are neat.

How is the poor guy supposed to eat with a mask on? Seems like a new diet craze ready to happen if you ask me.

Didn't U get the memo? We are all on rations, for the next two weeks.

I hope everybody listened to me weeks ago when I told you to stock up.

White House Coronavirus Task Force recommends avoiding grocery stores, pharmacies over next two weeks

WASHINGTON - The White House Coronavirus Task Force over the weekend urged Americans to avoid going to grocery stores and pharmacies over the next two weeks as the pandemic is expected to worsen across the country.

"The next two weeks are extraordinarily important," said Birx. "This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe and that means everybody doing the 6-feet distancing, washing their hands."

why is the media treating the malaria drugs like they are dangerous and unknown voodoo and even talking about how they could maybe possibly help is some kind of negligent behavior?

let me spell this out for you in terms that I hope you can understand. I've done a lot of research lately into this and the underlying, most predominant and heavily-weighted response to a question such as this begins and ends in OrangeManBad. there is no other explanation. the only hope is that somehow the great O finds his way back to the white house to save all of us from ourselves.

To begin with you know Trump put travel restrictions on China in Feb, right? Trump made the decision after accepting the recommendation of the public health officials at HHS.

Forward to March and your insistence that Trump had downplayed the virus...

The following quote was said in the second week of March by Trump. It is one of the examples used by the media to accuse Trump of downplaying.

"But it’s something that we have tremendous control over". - Trump

What you clever lefties do, and what you always do is cherry pick a comment that fits your anti Trump agenda and run with it.

Here is that same statement in context, in bold..

And we’re using the full power of the federal government to defeat the coronavirus, and we will do whatever it takes. And we’re doing, I think, really, really well. A lot of good things are going to happen.

I want to thank all of the people standing behind me. You know, these are phenomenal people, and we have some of them right over here. But the people behind me have been working around the clock, and they’re doing an incredible job.

We see what’s happening. We see what’s going on in other countries. We’re looking at — we’re learning from watching other countries, frankly. This is a very contagious — this is a very contagious virus. It’s incredible. But it’s something that we have tremendous control over.

Does that sound like downplaying to you?
It sounds like "everyone keep calm" to me.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms 'worsen'

A No 10 statement read: "The prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas' Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus.

"Over the course of [Monday] afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital."

I did some digging.

"But it’s something that we have tremendous control over." - Trump.

"Tremendous control"

oh yeah, that worked

430,000 people have traveled from China to the US since the COVID-19 outbreak appeared – including nearly 40,000 who arrived after President Trump imposed travel restrictions

Additionally, there were more than 1,300 direct passenger flights and 381,000 travelers arriving to the United States from China in January. Around a quarter were Americans.

The New York Times reports that thousands of these passengers flew directly from China as US health officials were just beginning to gauge the severity of the outbreak.

Going to the store tomorrow and Thursday. Gotta get my fresh fruit and vegi

Because Fauci is very popular right now and has not been as enthusiastic about it, so they want to hammer away at any differences between Trump and Fauci.

You know if there is one person who experiences even a hint of an adverse effect from these drugs (which would be perfectly normal, every drug has some adverse effects) they will be ALL over it.

Pipe down. "Tremendous control" had nothing to do with the flight restrictions. I know how the flight restrictions turned out.

I had edited the post to make more clear.

I prefaced the flight restrictions to illustrate that he had acted on the virus in Feb.
The point was to make you misinformed types understand that Trump did not stand idly by. Trump made the flight restriction decision after accepting the recommendations of the career public health officials at the HHS.

Fact: Trump downplayed the virus (See Below)
Fact: Trump made a man, Mick Mulvaney, his chief of staff after Mick said these words, "given the fact that I think he's a terrible human being,"

Phase One: The disease emerges
Dec. 31: China confirms existence of a new virus.

Jan. 20: World Health Organization reports cases in China, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.

Jan. 21: The first U.S. case is announced in Washington state (as well as Vietnam and Singapore). WHO says the virus risk globally is high.

Jan. 22: A reporter asks if there are worries about a pandemic. Trump responds:

"No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine."

Jan. 24: Trump tweets, "It will all work out well."

Jan 29: The White House forms a coronavirus response task force, initially led by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

Jan. 30: Trump blocks travel from China.

The same night, he holds a campaign rally in Iowa.

"We think we have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. ... we think it’s going to have a very good ending for it."

Feb. 2: Trump tells Fox News host Sean Hannity, "We pretty much shut it down coming in from China."

Feb. 4: Diamond Princess cruise ship quarantined in Yokohama, Japan. Over 2,600 guests and over 1,000 crew. Within two days, over 40 people test positive for COVID-19, including eight Americans.

Feb. 11: WHO names the new disease COVID-19.

Feb 14: Trump discusses the "very small" number of U.S. coronavirus cases with Border Patrol Council members:

"We have a very small number of people in the country, right now, with it. It’s like around 12. Many of them are getting better. Some are fully recovered already. So we’re in very good shape."

Feb. 20: WHO reports nearly 77,000 cases worldwide in 27 countries.

Feb. 24: Stock market plummets as Dow Jones Industrials falls more than 1,000 points.

The same day, Trump asks for $1.25 billion in emergency aid. It grows to $8.3 billion in Congress. He tweets that the virus "is very much under control" and the stock market "starting to look very good to me!"

Feb. 26: The first case emerges in California with no clear source, suggesting community spread of the virus.

In a news conference that day, Trump says the United States is "really prepared." He puts Vice President Mike Pence in charge of the White House task force.

Feb. 28: Cases rise across Europe, including Italy, Germany, France, England, Switzerland and Belarus.

Is this clear?

Nobody said it was a magic cure. There is some evidence its been effective and it's got a long safety history.
