Woman arrested, tased for not wearing mask at middle school football game

A woman at a grade-school football game in Ohio on Wednesday was reportedly tasered and arrested by a police officer for not wearing a face mask in the stands.

The woman was sitting in the bleachers with her mother when she got into an altercation with the cop about mask-wearing at a middle school in the town of Logan, The Marietta Times reported.

Video of the incident, which was posted to YouTube, shows the woman resisting as the officer struggled to handcuff her for nearly two minutes before he deployed his taser.

The woman, identified in the report as Alecia Kitts, repeatedly tells the officer to “get off of me,” the video shows.

“You’re not arresting me for nothing, I ain’t doing nothing wrong,” she yells after the officer ordered her to place her hands behind her back.

Once the officer tasered Kitts, she fell to a lower tier of the bleachers, according to the footage.

The use of force shocked others watching the game.

“Tasing this lady over not wearing a damn mask,” a witness could be heard saying.

As the woman is finally hauled away, her mother pleads with the cop: “Come on, it’s just a mask!”

Kitts, who appeared to have an American-flag themed mask in her back shorts pocket, was rooting for the visiting team from Marietta City Schools at the time.

The Logan Police Department told The Marietta Times the incident is under investigation.

Logan Athletic Director, Theresa Schultheiss, told the newspaper that Kitts and her mother were the only two in a crowd of 300 fans who were “having issues” complying with the state’s mask requirement.

“This rule has been in effect since we were told we could play,” said Schultheiss.

“Everyone that came through ticketing tonight was reminded, we had regular announcements over the PA reminding you that mouths and noses needed to be covered and we had signs at the bathrooms.”

I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to myself..........

Can you imagine if the cop was white and the spectator at the football game black??

RIOTS!!

What's really sad is that everybody knows that's exactly what would happen.

I'm sitting here watching this yelling "Oh my ******* gosh!!!" This bullshit!!!!

Well we think one of our SpEd kiddos has the Rona. He was coughing all day yesterday. Today he was coughing and got sent to the nurse- had a 101.9 fever! We don’t think his mom will take him to get tested (low income and no habla Anglais). So we think we will have to quarantine the whole class starting on Monday. Regardless of it being Rona, he should never have come to school with a fever.

He has a 197% survival rate.

He has a 197% survival rate.

He does but we have other kids in our room who are medically fragile- mostly with chronic respiratory issues. So we aren’t worried about him as much as we are about him possibly giving it to one of the more susceptible students. I’m not worried about myself or the staff.

I'm sitting here watching this yelling "Oh my ******* gosh!!!" This bullshit!!!!

I am conflicted on this incident. First, I completely get not wanting to wear a mask. I don't like it myself, but if I am wanting to patronize a business and they require a mask, I put on a mask before entering. This school had a policy that if parents wanted to attend the game, they had to wear a mask. It is doubly stupid, considering that the game was outside, and attendance was limited to where they could social distance (I hate that term). From what I understand, she was roughly 20 feet from the nearest person. I personally don't really see where it is such a big deal.

All of that said............the school had a policy that those attending would wear a mask. Agree or disagree, if the school has a policy, then they have a policy. No, it isn't the law, but if someone violates the policy, the school is well within its right to ask that person to leave. To me, it's no different than the school having a policy of no cussing on school grounds and some guy is next to the bleachers cussing like a sailor. He is going to be asked to leave. When that person refuses, the school is going to involve the law. Then, when the police come and ask you to leave and you refuse and resist being removed from the "stadium" you are asking for trouble. When you resist arrest, nothing good is going to come from it. Fight it in court.

Now, I personally disagree with the policy in the first place. As I have stated a number of times, I think as a nation we have been had over this covid stuff. Still, the school had a policy. Right, wrong, or indifferent, agree or disagree, the school can make this policy. And she knew the policy and violated it anyway. It sucks, but if she had put on a mask or got up and left when asked, she doesn't get tased or arrested. But she chose to fight and make a scene. So, she got tased. Boo-hoo. Stop acting like Karen.

If those students have chronic respiratory issues Lyn, why in the world are they even there in the first place? Special needs students are not something I'm familiar with or will pretend to know anything about, but the first thing I would ever think about with kids and their overall well-being and safety would be to minimize the potential of them getting a highly contagious respiratory virus that nobody (our own virologists and epidemiologists) seem to even now, after months and months, know jack **** about.

This is just craziness to me. I can't imagine what you personally have had to go through so please don't take this as me minimizing anything whatsoever, but I just can't believe that a school district would even allow that when it comes to special needs students. I could be missing something here too, so again, just an on-the-surface type reaction.

We have been going down this road of catering to the numerical minority for some time. Some kids are allergic to peanuts so no peanut butter sandwiches for anybody.

The irony is the left always claims the majority is evil, but all of their schemes are based on taking advantage of the inherent decency and sense of fairness of the vast majority of Americans.

Most people were happy with their health insurance. That's why Obama repeated the lie about being able to keep your insurance so often. Why would so many people who were satisfied with their coverage think that a major overhaul was needed? Because the left convinced you that it was your neighbor who was unhappy and struggling. Meanwhile he's thinking the same about you. Both happy with their coverage but somehow thinking there needs to be a change for fairness.

Covid is using the same playbook. Most people are not personally afraid of covid. They don't personally feel a need to wear a mask. But they have been absolutely convinced that their neighbor is at death's door if you even breathe on him or her. And so it will go. Give up your freedoms 1 by 1 for the greater good. Become that cog in the machine.

Parents were given the choice of virtual or in person. They all chose in person- my guess is that they were tired of the kids being home and wanted them to be around peers. They are afforded the same rights as GenEd kids, so the same options must be available to them. Trust me. If I were a parent of a child with medical issues that could lead to death if they catch Covid (or ANY type of cold), I would be keeping hi home during this time. Not because I’m paranoid about the whole thing, but that I want to keep my already compromised kid safe.

Our kids have been good about wearing their masks, but they are human. They fidget with them and pull them down. At lunch, they take them off to eat. So IF the sick student had Covid, that is where our kids could have been exposed. We stay in the same classroom all day and don’t leave. Kids eat lunch at their tables. There is a restroom attached to the classroom so they use that.

But I totally understand your point. My husband asks the same as well. While I can’t even begin to understand how difficult it must be to raise a child with such severe needs, I do understand the parents’ need for a break. I’m glad I don’t have to make that decision .

The problem the Left has now is that the virus is petering out like they always do and the 'Rona will be mostly gone by the time there is a vaccine that will pay big money from the government to big pharma and Bill Gates.

My only issue with all of that, and you are correct...but you omit the following: The arresting officer, while equipped with a mask, wasn't wearing it and the assisting officer didn't either. She only put one on when Ms Kitts (in cuffs) screamed how unfair it was she was being arrested for not wearing a mask when the officer didn't have one on.

All due respect, as you said the policy is the policy. Both officers AND Kitts should have been asked to leave the premises for violating the policy. They all broke the policy. Were all 3 asked to leave? Nope.

The police are perhaps above the law? Or Rona' proof?

It's bullshit. All of them should have to obey the policy and be subject to the same outcome for not doing so.

Ron,

Where is the virus petering out? The daily cases seem pretty steady and they are saying with cooler weather and the flu season approaching more will be staying indoors and causing
more spread. I think it's going to be a rather harsh winter.

The daily cases are staying steady because testing continues to increase. And regardless, the CDC itself has begun to release data stating what we all believed. It's just the flu bro...for those of us 65 and under. Above 65, the **** is very deadly. For the rest of us? Open the **** up and get back to living life.

I don't know the exact percentage, but about 12% of the population is 70+. That's about 39.6 million. If the death rate is 5.4% for this age group and everyone got the virus, then 2,138,400
would die. Just the Flu?

And if my grandpa had **** he'd be grandma, and if Superman landed in Nazi Germany WWII would have turned out a lot differently, and if my feces was currency I'd quit working, and if ...

You are a Rona addict. You love the Rona. You obsess over every stupid Rona stat. You are like some pimply high school kid poring over box scores during championship week of some stupid fantasy baseball league.

Rona has killed about 9,300 Americans. The stupid policies you splooge on the keyboard about have killed tens of thousands. We don't know the actual number - we could, but we don't - because the Rona fantasy commissioners are afraid the numbers will make them look like the moron lying idiot murderers they are.

Homecoming game cancelled tonight. All football postponed until further notice. 8 varsity players tested positive. I feel bad for the seniors- a few were supposed to be top recruits for colleges this year. They won’t get to showcase their skills for a scholarship.

I was focused solely on that woman's behavior and the fact that people believe she was tased for not wearing a mask, which is factually inaccurate. She was tased for resisting arrest. She was arrested for not complying with the school's policy.

Fight it in court. Obtain a copy of the video, and show the court that the officers also behaved badly.

Don't resist arrest. Follow orders from law enforcement. Fight it in court. Seems I read all of that somewhere, but I just can't remember where.

If she was resisting arrest, I agree 100%. Obey the law and fight it in court.

What we don't see here is what preceded this. Was she asked by school personnel to put it on and she said no? Then, when the officer approached her, did he ask her to put it on and she said no? If that is the case, she refused the policy, then she deserved to be arrested if she refused to comply and/or leave.

However, (and we don't know because we don't know what happened prior to the camera footage being started) what if the officer merely walked up to her and tried to arrest her simply for not wearing a mask? It appears that may have happened. IF THAT is the case, then this is wrong.

We don't know yet.

What I do know is the policy was masks are to be worn without exception per their rules and the arresting officers weren't wearing masks. That is a double standard in this case based on what we know.

Hold on, I re-watched the football game arrest video. The arrestee is white and the school cop black.

Does that mean I get free shoes?
