The Coronavirus thread

Tibs...which vaccination did you take?

Pzifer, Modera, J&J?

Just curious what they offer overseas..

Waiting for the Pfizer one, been on a waiting list for a few weeks. Hun gov is pushing Chinese & Russian vaccines. I could get a Sputnik shot as early as tmrw, though have reservations, as Hungary's the only EU country where it's available thanks to Orban being butt-buddies with Putin. If nothing else, I'll get that one just to get some level of protection. This region is going through a tough stretch right now, Hungary w highest death rate in the world per capita and around 10,000 new cases every day. So we're still in the thick of it out here.

My buddy's flying back to LA next week to get a shot, as have some other American friends. Got tired of waiting and don't trust what the gov is hocking. Rather expensive choice, to fly back home for a shot, but may be worth considering.

You also confuse the good Doctor's words. There's a month of April to go. And given the math put forward, one can logically argue, we may already be at herd immunity.

You ducked the questions about South and North Dakota Floggy. Did you put those drums back in your closet? Done banging them?
You’re backtracking from your “herd immunity is here, let’s celebrate that”.

The very sparsely populated SD and ND are STILL #1 and #2 in cases per 100k due to their utter failure in dealing with the pandemic. Another inconvenient fact for you to reconcile.

I really enjoy how my 50 word posts illicit several hundred word responses from you. You’re protesting too much...

"cases are on the rise"

every goddamned ******* day since Gyna released the Wuhan Flu, "cases are on the rise"

566,692 total deaths in this country (underlying reasons not divulged)
3,128,944 total cases

using common core maths, and rounding up, that's .019 deaths resulting from the Kung Flu

Don't blame you...I wouldn't take the Chinese or Russian one either....although the Chinese one might be more trustworthy...

They want their people to be well....not so much for the rest of us...

Surprised were allowing in comings from overseas again? I'm out of that loop obviously..

Yeah, when you have an openly corrupt government who over the past eight years have built a top-down, communist-style autocracy, undermined democracy every step of the way, re-written the Constitution to fit their needs, stolen billions of EU funds, and run the country through a network of oligarchs - all under of the aegis of right-wing, conservative, Christian values - you tend to be slightly skeptical.

Citizens can freely travel to the States, but I think negative pcr tests are required.

that seems rather familiar from this side of the pond.

Because there’s a 0.03% you could die if you don’t get it? Did you ask how much $ J&J is paying them?
If this were 40 years ago, I might agree with you. TV's, vacation trips, NFL game tickets were pretty common.
These days, physicians and other healthcare worker don't see a dimes worth of anything.

As far as the vaccine goes, if you're in the danger zone like me, 65+ with comorbidities, getting immunized is a no brainer in my opinion.
If you're 40 and healthy, use your best judgement, herd immunity will occur whether you partake or not.

I understand. Do you get the flu shot every year? Pretty much the same thing, only we don’t shut everything down and mask up for it.

LMFAO, you can cut the hypocrisy of this with a chainsaw.

I did and still do get a flu shot every year. Working my entire career with people coughing and spewing snot on a daily basis, it's an easy decision.

Sometimes people do things for others and not for themselves. It’s not just about immunizing yourself for something of little risk to you personally, it’s about ending a pandemic that is of significant risk to others.
I’m pretty sure that in American society, people pretty much do for themselves, regardless of what they virtue signal. See it too often to believe otherwise.

I get a flu shot every year, as well. This year it was shingles too.

Zona,
i understand that you were a pharmacist, and that you have dealt with people, illnesses, viruses, drugs and the such as a career. You were the guy in the middle of the individual and the healthcare system.
As such, I am greatly respectful of your experienced point of view, because this Covid isnt your first rodeo.

For most of the population, regardless of past vaccinations, flu shots, etc. this is the first real experience with a real health risk with global ramifications.

Can I ask you -- forgive me if this is unfair -- to ballpark the positive influence that you would expect from having taken the jab? And given your comments above, could you do same for the average 60 and 50 year old (I think that would cover at least 80% of those posting in this thread)?

What I'm trying to discern is the upside expectancy from the shot. Or is it better characterized as a short term insurance policy against Covid effects?

Thanks in advance.

LOL, as I said, you MAY want to read the article Floggy. I didn't say that. The only thing I said was "Johns Hopkins doctor says herd immunity here. Fauci's gonna **** his pants if he doesn't get to continue to dictate to and control the American public." The quote, "herd immunity is here, let's celebrate that" is a direct quote from the article. In fact, everything I posted in the latter half of thee post (https://www.steelernation.com/forums/threads/the-coronavirus-thread.34219/post-810008) is a direct copy/paste from the article.

Floggy don't read good.

ND and SD were utter failures in dealing with the pandemic??:ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:.

Combined, ND and SD currently have 4,115 active cases out of a combined population of 1.65Million (0.0025)

Rhode Island, population 1.06Million, has 130,508 active cases (0.123)
California is 0.042 infected.
New York is 0.037 infected.
Your home state Virginia is 0.066 infected.
My ultra-Liberal, ultra-locked down MD is also 0.066 infected

Yeah, SD and ND's approach really failed.

Tibs, when did you move to Hungary? I'd assume it was fairly recent but guessing you have relatives who have been there forever. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they get out from under communist rule in 1968? Have the lastest generations not remembered how things were back in the day? How could they let communism creep back in? Guessing it's been a slow evolution.

How do you all manage elections there as you'd think they'd be ousted at the ballot box.

Do you foresee an uprising if they can't get those characters out of office?

Thanks for the insight.

As far as the yearly flu vaccine, they generally have a pretty good idea of what strain will be prevalent most years, and unless someone is specifically allergic to any component of the vaccine, they are considered effective and safe. Folks with Guillain-Barre syndrome aside.
With the COVID vaccine, there is so much disinformation out there who knows what to believe. The method of producing this vaccine is not unique and has a track record that doesn't prevent me from recommending it, if asked. What I find frustrating are the fear mongers saying that the vaccine will only last a few months, one can still contract the virus even if immunized, and that it won't cover any of the variants. None of this can be verified, and won't be perhaps for a year or two. My short answer remains the same, if you fall into the vulnerable portion of the population, I would advise getting it. Everyone else, it's a personal decision, although I don't see a down side (yet) if everyone gets it.
It is difficult to give a medical opinion on a subject that has been so politicized, but if you're on the fence with this, I would get it.

But he didn’t say that Tim. His editorial was from February 18th, when the 14 day new case average was down 77%, and he said what could POSSIBLY happen. Now consider that the 14 day average is now up 17%. New cases are rising. Herd immunity hasn’t yet happened. Trust me.

SD Covid deaths per population are 35% higher than the US rate, and the US was a failure itself in dealing with the pandemic. God knows how many cases and deaths from SD migrated to other states from Sturgis retards.
